surprised I never noticed it, then again it was surely off first page before I would have considered myself "old" enough here to ask, and Feedback Forum isn't exactly a place where you look through old threads for the good stuff

also turns out that's not the only place to ask for it; the last post in that thread was almost 10 months before this thread's OP even regged here, so she couldn't have asked for Old School access in that thread

It's all fun and games until someone with alternate lifestyle gets butthurt.

You can make fun of normal people around here all day. But God forbid you take it to someone with a different lifestyle. Then it's cruel and mean. You think any of these people would hesitate to make fun of some poorly worded trailer park CL add for something dumb for sale? I haven't checked out the CL thread in chit chat but I bet its full of crap like that.

you seem to fail to recognize the difference between making fun of someone online and screwing with an innocent person in-real-life.

you also seem to fail to recognize that being intolerant of bigots is not the same as the same as bigots being intolerant of people with "alternate lifestyles".

But nobody is saying that slappy was being intolerant. She was just messing with somebody. And I'd just like to say that if someone emailed one of my dumb redneck examples, and messed with them IRL, there wouldn't be such an outcry.

Also, you still have to be tolerant of the intolerant, otherwise you're just a hypocrite.

And there's a reason that ads like these used to only be found in those little fliers you get outside of shady establishments. People really ought not be putting this kind of laundry out in the open (note - I'm not calling it dirty laundry, just laundry). You're bound to find someone in this world that will mess with you. Keep this shit private. He's probably lucky someone like slappy found him and caused him to take the ad down. Could you imagine what someone like Dahmer would do with CL? He'd be like a kid in a candy store. Obviously he's not the norm, but people like that are out there. This guy sounded like a nice person, a nice person who is definitely opening themselves up for getting taken advantage of.

bullshit man. it's not hypocritical to be intolerant of racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobes etc. it blows my mind that you can't make the distinction between being intolerant of people of a certain race, sex, sexual orientation, etc and being intolerant of someone who discriminates against those people. it's mind boggling.

So let's say a couple from Gastonia, NC, come into a bakery. This bakery happens to be owned by a black man, and the couple wants a Confederate themed wedding, complete with all the dress and regalia of antebellum south. Just one hitch. These people don't know their history all that well and are ordering a cake covered with the battle flag rather than say, the actual NC confederate flag.

The black man refuses to bake their cake.

Is it ok for him to do that? I guess maybe I'm throwing you a curve ball because it doesn't necessarily sound like the couple is racist. But they're from Gastonia, so we'll take a leap and assume they are.
