I haven't calculated it by hand, but the display says 14.5-15 average. I reset it, drove from Raleigh to Richmond and back and averaged just over 20. It's fine on the highway, but stall/cam suck gas in stop and go. 12/21/2014 11:45:52 AM |

LSA Blower....SOON
Friends full weight 4100+lb G8 went 10.03 @136 at last Saturdays track rental. 1/15/2015 11:50:16 AM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
why LSA blower? that's not the most efficient unit in the world and you're already making more power than an N/A LSA could...
I'm not knocking it.... just wondering why that one and not a whipple or something that you could actually go nuts with once you decide to rebuild the bottom end? 1/15/2015 2:02:59 PM |
BlackJesus Suspended 13089 Posts user info edit post |
Price and limited options. The only forced induction options on the market for the G8 are the Magnuson(1900 & 2300), Pro-charger, and a top mount twin turbo setup. Whipple canceled their G8 kit when Pontiac got the axe. All the options mention cost $6500+, while the LSA setup will be around 3k unless I go ahead and future proof the fuel system.
Whipple does make a kit for the SS (2014 G8 GXP), but far as I know it won't fit under the G8 hood. Magnuson is supposedly building a heartbeat kit for the G8, but I won't pay them 9k+ for it.
I just want to run 10's ASAP
Everyone get ready, once I run a 10 I'll never stop talking about it.

I fear... that if you get to the 10s in your car.... (about 600whp if i'm not mistaken) that you'll only do it a couple times.
will your bottom end handle it?

It should hold together fine as long as the tune is good. The friend that just switched from Magnuson to the LSA got just over 50k miles on his blown setup that ran a best of 10.56 with the stock bottom end. (Eventually he bent a rod)
My tuner runs 10's all day, and has a best of 9.97. Stock bottom end, stock trans. LS > EVERYTHING

cool just asking.. I was thinking if 6500 was too much for the turbo/screw blower... the rebuild price is gonna be scar.
And just to be clear this is my ignorance asking questions, i'm not trying to dis ya man just trying to make sure you don't go DD-less.
I'm paranoid of blown engines after the subaru hence my engine's whole bottom end is Forged/Billet crower.
(also i'm hoping my car's body work gets done before you have a blower so i can enjoy it n/a for a while)

The CTS-V guys have gone as high as 7k with stock pulleys (which is what I'll be starting with). It gets iffy when you pulley down and go for big boost. I'll have to ask the guy thats currently got 15psi from his LSA what his shift points are. My current setup pulls to 6800 with ease.
To stop myself from getting greedy, I'm just going to use a boost a pump and stock cts-v injectors. That setup should be fine for 550whp, and low 11's full weight.
[Edited on January 16, 2015 at 7:57 AM. Reason : Yes I know boost a pump == dead fuel pump eventually] 1/16/2015 7:48:04 AM |

Yeah, metallic cats don’t seem to hold up as well... I don’t think it’s a price thing, I’ve seen a $6k set of cats work themselves loose and break apart in 15k miles. Avoid metallic “performance” cats if you can.
Also, I’ve noticed that tuned cars tend to be harder on cats than not. Rich mixture is your enemy. 1/25/2015 11:00:56 PM |

Yea its came a LONG way from the silent, stock, high 13 second sedan it was when I purchased it. Now I'm just waiting for the cts-v/zl1 crowd to start spending tax money on upgrades so I can pick up all their take off parts and finish my blower build.
It's definitely running rich. I took the GF for a ride Sunday and she told me she wasn't riding in my stinking POS again until I fix it.

Loud exhaust can get annoying, even if it sounds great.
I had a significant and permanent change of heart some years back on this. I had a ratty, loud and stiffly 944 turbo with a totally open exhaust, running tons of boost... It sounded great, but annoying over time lol I was taking my mom to the airport in it, she asked me why it was so loud when we were on the highway. I thought about it for a while, and couldn’t come up with a good reason... 2/21/2015 1:38:26 AM |

I think I'm about at that point with this setup. I loved it prior to the cats failing, but now it screams bloody murder no matter how I drive. Luckily I had some custom helmholtz chambers added in months ago that got rid of the super annoying highway drone.
My aha moment has been the last few days when I feel guilty remote starting it and letting it warm up. I'll have to get a video of how outrageous this setup is during a cold start. (Cammed LS, Longtubes, 3"Off road pipes, X Pipe, 6" long magnaflows....what was I thinking) And I'm sure its gonna get louder once I add boost.
When I change it, this will be my 4th exhaust setup in the last year. I'm thinking quieter mufflers and e-cutouts.
