Fermat. If you kept reading you will see where I was corrected and the law was clarified. In public that statement is true. On private property where the owner has given you permission to be there it is also true. But asking a woman to leave your private property is not illegal. It really comes down to the trespassing law. You can't tell her not to breastfeed but you can make her leave. Federal grounds are legally protected everywhere in the US. And the statement I made is completely true in other states, just not NC.

He's nude for the photo op, as Olivia Wilde explained in the comments. She doesn't normally wear heels and a fancy dress when she nurses, and he usually wears a diaper.

However, skin to skin contact is beneficial for babies, so many parents will have younger babies in just diapers for nursing. Obviously, when they get older, this tapers off, but that's still a little baby.

A woman that sat next to me on the plane had to breast feed a couple times. The second time she had trouble arranging her blanket and the kid was already on the nip (she tried for a couple minutes to get it organized but couldn't get it right for some reason, probably because she was doing it one handed). Should I have helped get her blanket arranged, or should I have just ignored the entire situation?

I ended up ignoring the situation since the whole purpose of the blanket was to shield herself from me and the other passengers. It would have been awkward for me to touch a woman stranger while breastfeeding, and it was awkward to have to ignore someone else's problem that I could have fixed.

A lot of babies let loose during nursing. Its not uncommon for some moms to encourage baby bowel movements by breastfeeding.

^^ I'm for common sense... Was the lady legally entitled to breast feed? Yup. Was the judge wrong in ordering her to cover up? Yes. Was the mom stupid for thinking that was appropriate in that particular setting? Yup. But stupidity isn't a crime. But it is lack of judgement that ends up eroding the rights of the rest of us.

Actually, I think I was wrong, earlier... I think the law states that you can't be arrested for indecent exposure. That doesn't mean that there are not rights that the judge has within his court room to exercise. The lady may not be able to get arrested for indecent exposure in the court room, but if they judge gives her an order to cover up or leave and she fails to obey, she could be held in contempt.

That woman had horrible judgment. I also think she thought breast feeding in front of the judge would make her look like a good mom; her case was over custody of her older child. She lost.
