The worst part is you have no real incentive to rejoin a match if you lose a connection. I was doing KOTH will some friends, time warner shit out for a few minutes and kicked me. I rejoined and we ended up winning, but I still got the L and lost experience.

They fixed the re-join loss thing. As long as you rejoin and complete the match you get the W. If you drop 3 times you get a leaving penalty.

Every single time I get close to diamond, I get groups of people with attack torb, double snipers, or disconnects

Playing with my friends is even worse because they're ranking 2300-2500, so if I win, I get X points, but if I lose with them, I take a 2*X hit.

There is something evil that happens once you get up around 2800. I know people who have gotten to low diamond solo queuing but I think it's just pure luck and time of day they were playing so Blizzard couldn't match them up with fuckwhits.

I'm only level 16 or so but I got there in like two days. Been playing the shit out of it and I really haven't played games for hours like this in many years.

I play Soldier pretty much exclusively. I also like Pharrah on some levels and will use D.Va to tank if I need to. I suck at healing.

Finally got to level 25. Lost 8/10 placement matches and tied 2/10. I still haven't won a single match in competitive. Is it possible to get matched up with garbage teams that many times or is it just me? I feel like I fulfill my role well. I can't even play with my friends because I'm ranked so low.

it's both friend. The problem with elo systems is it's difficult to "climb" to your max potential without some luck.

Generally you need to be a lot better than your opponents to carry teammates to victory... if you're around their skill level you'll be at the mercy of your team, and doing what you can. Granted in a FPS it's a little easier .... if you headshot everyone and the enemy team is consonantly dead then you'll win

but if you're not always on fire, and always trading 2 to 3 for 1 then yah you're contributing to your rank just as much as everyone else on your team.

Anecdote ...

in HotS I'm Diamond 4 on one account and Gold 1 on one account (tilted last night as lost 3 in a row lol). I have a 50-51% win rate in Diamond 4 ... I make good macro decisions and I have decent mechanics, but im not "good enough" to really influence the game more heavily. If i get a bad team or a rager I lose, and if I get a team that's on the same page and cooperates I win.


In G1-P4 ... I'm purely at the mercy of the teams I play with ... I'm not high diamond or masters mechanically so I can't 1v5 ... and teams in gold make terrible rotations and macro decisions. I'm good enough to know they're fucking up severely but not good enough to fix it if that makes sense.

it's different in each game but the idea is similar. You need to be a league or two better than your opponents to consistantly carrying them out of that league... or you have to put in the 1000 game grind according to averages.

^^ this is pretty spot on. In HOTS I've placed D4/P3/P2 in the last 3 seasons and I don't think I could describe competitive play in a Blizzard game better than that.

Both HOTS and Overwatch rely on a ton of teamwork so you really do have to be a true leader (organizing EVERYTHING) or leagues better than what you are playing. Sometimes you'll get some great streaks, sometimes you won't, but if you are evening out around 50%...it probably is a combo of both you and your team.

That's all fine though. Just don't fall into the trap of looking at the stats and saying "well I got 2-3 golds though, it must be them." Those are the worst people and it'll cause you to tilt much worse. One friend of a friend I play with is definitely better than the rest of us and he always plays that card even when HE is changing in solo and dying.

There's just too many different ways to play the game for something like CTF to work. The game was designed for coordinated pushes/assaults to hold or claim territory and not to grab something and play keep away.

It might be more interesting if they didn't have the flag location right next to teams' spawn areas. Or just have a common flag area in the middle.

Though what I remember from Halo 1 BLOOD GULCH, each team had a flag.

halo had multiple flags, but there was a center flag mode. thats no different than most other fps's from that era (and before). this game definitely doesnt excel at it, but it was alright.

My experience with CTF so far has been two games that were draws because everyone turtled the whole game and one game where after the other team scored half my team quit. It was boring and frustrating. Small sample size but it just doesn't seem to work with this game or at least not in the way they have it set up.

I'd say I'm playing at a really high level with D.Va (that one bad game was a teammate leaving near the start and having another guy just griefing us) but despite carrying as much as I can, I just can't seem to get a consistent enough team to make progress out of bronze.

Really thinking about just buying another copy of the game and redoing my placements, which sucks because I have a lot of special skins and stuff I'd like to keep

I try to avoid looking at the stats all of the time. Not that those numbers aren't good, but they give you a false impression (sometimes) of how matches go.

I'll use an example from HOTS. You can EASILY top team damage if all you do is charge in stupidly to the enemy and die a ton, but that stat means nothing. You were still a bad teammate. Similarly, you could block tons of damage as Reinhart in this game, but not be where you need to be.

Again, that's not to say you aren't stuck in league hell (it definitely happened to me in LOL...at least I think so), but I wouldn't get hung up on the stats unless you are just trying to see how you are improving with certain characters.
