I don't think anyone is saying to ignore this story, just not to sensationalize it. But news organizations don't care because they get ratings. And when the next shooting makes national news, they'll get ratings from that, too!

I'd go with mental health issue, it's not clear how/if he was actually bullied, could have all been in his crazy head. He seems to have a decent work history on his linkedin, i could imagine if he wasn't working with his current employer he could have gotten a job somewhere else.

So access to firearms hasn't really changed, they have always been pretty attainable. People have always suffered from mental illness so that isn't a new phenomenon. Violent crime has been decreasing, yet these types of things seem like they are becoming more frequent.

So what has changed that could be a possible cause? Clearly it isn't a simple answer, the only things I can think of is that we are prescribing psych meds more now than ever before and the media/social media has changed how we interact with each other. On the psych meds point, obviously they aren't going to turn everyone who takes them into mass murderers and they help a lot of people but it could also be the thing that pushes certain people over the edge. As far as the media/social media, it is easier for them to get things out like their manifesto so these people who are so screwed up in the head know if they do something like this their voice will be heard.
