Eh, we do this every year, it's expected. But at least it feels like this year we have momentum and something to look forward to provided we take these next steps:
Fire Marcoux and promote CuJo (or anyone else for that matter, just get rid of Marcoux).
Get a new goalie.
Drop some $$ or draft pics and prospects on a #1 C. Granted, I'd rather just overpay since we have the cap space anywhere. Need Karmanos to open up the wallet.
As long as the young guys continue to play like they are, we'll be the playoffs next year 4/8/2017 3:30:45 PM |

It's not so hidden at this point. We have a lot of picks and will be trying to deal them for roster ready players.

Been a while since I have been on TWW, and I am sure you guys have loved my silence. Just a few thoughts and questions no order of importance:
1 - Have we re-upped Stemniak? 2 - It's pretty obvious we are Chicago South... but does it actually matter without Kane or Toews? They passed us by with Matthews and McD 3 - I like Darling 4 - It seems the Duchene move is off the table... any thoughts on moving Hanifin/Fleury/Bean/combo/etc for Marner/Nylander/combo/etc? 5 - Unlikely to happen, but what about Jagr for a year? Teach youth how to be pro/trade at deadline if we are out/ etc. 6 - On the unis... They put black on the bottom of everything except the pants... well.. and the helmet... black on the pants would've been nice 7 - Finally, I thought this was a good draft for us

right, and that type of language is used often, but is never absolute. Sure the agreement says the team will remain in raleigh, but there will be a time limitation to that restriction. And I'd bet it's not really long-term. 7/15/2017 10:56:03 AM |

Quote : | "Interviews with people close to Greenberg and others who have knowledge of the proposed purchase but requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks paint a picture of a front man who would be deeply concerned with the fan experience and revitalizing Raleigh as a hockey market, but lacking the money to fund the purchase himself and reliant on a group of investors to get the deal done.
If the deal goes through, at a reported price of $500 million that likely includes a large amount of assumed debt while valuing the actual franchise closer to $300 million, Greenberg would move to Raleigh with the intention of making the team work here. That’s what Hurricanes fans long afraid of a move to Quebec City or Seattle during these years of ownership uncertainty as Karmanos has had the team on the market have been hoping to hear.
“Pete Karmanos loves hockey and the science and strategy of hockey and we’ll forever be indebted to him for bringing NHL hockey to North Carolina,” said former Hurricanes president Jim Cain, a Raleigh lawyer who worked with Greenberg on the Atlanta deal. “Chuck, though, loves sports. He loves what sports can do for a community, for a city, for a region. That’s a different personality in an owner. I’m not saying Chuck doesn’t love hockey. He does. He’s not the hockey purist Karmanos is. Chuck doesn’t aspire to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. That’s Pete.”
Greenberg, 56, a Pittsburgh native, was working as a lawyer there when the Penguins were in danger of moving in the late ’90s. He helped push through the sale of the bankrupt team to Lemieux that not only kept the team in town but set the stage for a new arena and the team’s current dynasty. Among the people Greenberg met then, through Lemieux: current Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis, who arrived in Pittsburgh in 1991 in a controversial trade from the Hartford Whalers.
That set Greenberg down a new path: Getting on the other side of the table." |

Take it as a good thing..?
Dougie Hamilton is a proven player and is instantly our best D-man. However, I still think he'll play on the 1B line (Slavin and Pesce are 1A and I figure Dougie's line gets more PP time and Slavin's line gets more PK) and it all kind of balances out. Of the other two picks, I heard the Forward is a Brock McGinn type which I see as a positive and the other D-man has potential and we don't need him right now anyway.
Word was that Lindholm was looking at $5M per, but he hasn't produced to earn that type of salary yet. Hanifin was also likely looking for a big payday. I think both were RFAs, so we either had to pay or we could lose them anyway when they become UFAs the next year..I don't know all the details to that so if I'm wrong, correct me.
I don't feel bad about Lindholm leaving, but I do hate getting rid of Hanifin. The biggest knock on him was that he was a victim of bad optics. He was the #5 pick and was getting 'outplayed' by Slavin and Pesce, who came into the league around the same time. He still has much more upside, and D-men takes years to develop and he's younger than both Slavin and Pesce. He made 'youth' mistakes, but because Slavin and Pesce were around, he had a lot less forgiveness for making them.
Granted, he was likely the big piece to make the Dougie trade, so you have to give a little to get a little. Always hope that if he liked his time in Raleigh that when the FA market opens up years down the road and we're willing to pay the price, we won't get blacklisted. 6/23/2018 5:00:11 PM |

Rask too, but I don't like the idea of selling low on him. If he gave consistent effort I could see him being a 50-60 point player. I thought that contract was a steal at the time with how he was trending, but last season was 6/24/2018 7:28:49 PM |

I'm 100% on board with trading anything that isn't nailed to the floor. It's time to try something new. The optics of running the same bunch out there + Svechnikov next year wasn't going to cut it.
It's going to take more than this to get me excited about these guys again, but this past weekend was a solid start. 6/25/2018 8:45:44 AM |

Spot on summary. That's what I've read as well. They wanted a 1st round talent for Skinner and won't accept anything less which is why he didn't get moved at the draft. Faulk is more likely to get traded than Skinner at this point. I am very curious if we will see any of the bluechip defensive talents we've got stowed away at the Checkers get moved up.
