haha just two seasons, they had PJ Hairston, Marvin WIlliams, and Handoosh. LOL wow, its worse than i thought. Quote : | "The Hornets franchise has had a history of catering to former UNC and Duke players in an effort to energize the fan base. In 2005, after being back in Charlotte as the Bobcats for only one year, the team selected UNC stars Raymond Felton and Sean May in the lottery. In 2009, the Bobcats selected Duke star Gerald Henderson and in 2011 they traded for another Dukie, Corey Maggette. Another Blue Devil, Josh McRoberts had a cup of coffee in Charlotte as well, playing for the Bobcats for the 2013-2014 season. Hansbrough is now the third ex-UNC player on the Hornets' roster as he will be joining Marvin Williams and P.J. Hairston. So while Hansbrough may not fit a specific role on the court for the Hornets, he does help the team market themselves to die-hard Tar Heels fan in the state. " |
I rest my case. Nothing like adding a crappy player to the cap just to market to muh Holes, lol

^^ now you just trollin.
One dude on 53 man roster, vs 3 players on a 12 person team (starters + bench), is obviously apples to oranges.
Plus, the panthers went after Peppers because he was a freak of nature and tottally worth rostering for his production. The Horheels take up cap space with worthless garbage like Tyler Hansbourough because they know the ppl of charlotte love ther Tarheelz!

getting rid of plumlee's 12.5m per over the next 3 years is huge. we get best player, best pick. Lose Belinelli, but jeremy lamb can fill his minutes. Howard's contract is pricier than plumlee's but it's shorter and we aren't doing anything in free agency until the marvin/mkg contracts run out anyway.
Even if howard sucks, this is a no-brainer, winning deal for me. 6/20/2017 11:42:21 PM |

i wish dsj dropped to 11, not going to happen. if hornets pick giles or kennard at 11 i'm not going to be happy. Kennard fills a need but not sure he's athletic enough to be anything more than a specialist. Can he defend? Giles showed nothing last year to warrant a lottery pick, injuries have already derailed his career. No way jackson falls to 31, I'm terrified Jordan will take him at 11. Bradley at 31 is the only pick I could somewhat get behind. 6/21/2017 12:32:21 AM |

they haven't drafted a duke or unc guy since '09 - and that was Gerald Henderson, their only Duke draft pick ever. they haven't drafted a UNC guy since '07, and he was immediately traded. they have drafted 5 total duke/unc guys dating back to 1988...one of those 5 guys was brandan wright who was immediately traded, so really the number is 4 in nearly 30 years, with the last UNC players who were drafted and actually suited up for CHA being May/Felton in 2005.
i also hate duke and unc. but maybe they draft more duke and unc players because duke and unc put way more guys in the pros than nc state.
by my count CHA has drafted more than 1 player from these schools: 4 UConn guys. 4 Kentucky guys. 4 UNC guys. 4 Indiana guys. 3 UCLA guys. 2 Tennessee guys. and a buncha schools represented by just 1 pick.
or, as ^^ points out, UConn jokes are just as applicable.

I could also easily see them going with Lauri Markkanan or Zack Collins at 11. Which I think are both busts.

i think most everyone bitches about it because the fledgling bobcats drafted 2 UNC players in the first round in their 2nd(?) draft ever. And they did it with the stated intention of getting fans in NC interested in the team.
but that was a different owner who was dumb as shit.6/22/2017 6:35:06 PM |

There's definitely a segment of state fans (mostly the PP type) who stillcall them the TarCats and say they can't root for them because MJ is the owner and they draft and acquire too many UNC player. I guess I took your statement the wrong way. My bad.

Regardless, good week for the hornets. Got out of the Plumlee contract, Monk fell to 11... I was pretty down on them less than 7 days ago and now they have an interesting roster. Not going to compete for any titles, but should win some games and be fun to watch.6/22/2017 9:28:06 PM |

I don't follow the NBA too closely, when cash is traded in cases like this, does it add to a teams salary cap next year, or is it literally just the team paying for the pick swap?
I thought it was just a lump sum, which I guess makes sense if you have the 31st pick but know the guy you want to pick is available for the 40th pick...
EDIT: Apparently they did this to stay under the salary cap
Quote : | "The move makes a lot of sense salary cap wise for Charlotte. The NBA salary cap for the 2017-18 season will only be $99 million which is $3 million lower than the projected $102. The Hornets were dangerously close to being over the tax threshold and by getting cash for the 30th pick, they will probably be able to stay under the tax cap." |
