Summary off of Reddit of the RPD press conference just finished:



Initials reports of gunshots at 2:35pm local time at Crabtree Mall

The Mall was very busy when the incident occurred. Mall has been completely evacuated.

No one in custody.

No shell casings have been found.

No conclusion that there was a shooter.

8 people injured whilst leaving the mall, ages range from 10 to 70 years. Only minor injuries.

Investigation is underway with multiple resources commited.

Authorities onsite: Local law enforcement, Federal, State, FBI, ATF as well as EMS and Fire.

Conflicting reports regarding gunshots, number of shots and witness to a shooter with a handgun, but looking at all possibilities.

Thanks extended to authorities and those that provided assistance. Also to those people who were in the mall for their patience, given the heat and circumstances.

Mariott and Embassy hotels took in people and provided water, shelter from the heat, air conditioning.

GoRaleigh provided buses to shelter people from the heat.

Anybody else with a CCP think about what you would do in a situation like this? Especially if you have a family to consider as well? Would you hit the deck or find cover and assess the situation knowing you can return fire if need be, hide in a store, or just run like crazy? I carry sometimes, but I'm definitely not crazy paranoid guy who thinks out shooter scenarios and shit like that outside of the standard somebody walks up to you with a knife or something. I'm also not one of the guys with a hero complex or who is looking for an excuse to draw on somebody. If I was just out minding my own business at Southpoint or Crabtree or anywhere else with a crowd and some shit like this went down I think I would probably just tuck tail and haul ass out too.

Keep in mind, all of the injuries reported have been from the stampede. If you aren't first, don't get stuck standing in a funnel. The same applies to back halls.

I carry and i often think about certain situations where I would have to use it if the need arises. Its called being prepared. If you don't know what you would do with it in a certain situation, leave it at home.

No, I am saying if it is a one on one situation where you can see the person approaching or threatening you then that is a pretty typical time when having a concealed weapon is very useful. I meant it more in a mass shooting or possible mass shooting situation. A lot of folks like to armchair quarterback and talk about being fucking Rambo and how "a concealed carry holder could have ended that situation". This was the point of me bringing it up, because the cousin who is a CCP holder but did not have it on her (and why would she, its daylight in a place with security and no guns allowed, right?) was talking about how it never even entered her equation, "Damn where is my gun?" She just ran. She also could not sleep last night and is still freaked the fuck out the next day.

If I was "one of those people" I would carry all the time and everywhere, damn the rules. I am not super paranoid always watching everybody suspiciously. I don't have it on me 24/7, I'm not like that guy who carries in his yard and maybe worries the neighbors and I don't have anger issues or any anti-government or race war concerns. I usually carry when I'm doing something like driving longer distances to places I'm unfamiliar with or going out late at night and concerned about possibly being robbed. I just wanted to know if others who have CCP on here had roleplayed this scenario out and what they envisioned they would do.

A month or two ago I was at the Cary Mall food court for lunch and unfortunately one of the construction workers dropped a panel they were boarding up a closed stand with. I think mine and everyone else's heart skipped a few beats before turning around to see what had happened.

I couldn't tell if that was gunfire or not from the video either. It sounds like it could be a gunshot that's getting clipped by the microphone and echoing due to being indoors. It could just as well be something falling.
