Like most politicians, members of the Durham City Council look for ways to distract people from their ongoing and obvious incompetence. An event like Jordan Peterson coming to town is the ultimate distraction because it fires up people of all political persuasions.

In an ideal world, we would expect a higher level of effort from elected officials. In reality, poorly thought out hot takes are much easier than doing real work to improve Durham as a city.

I go to Durham all the time and it's fine, although I prefer Raleigh. It does (like Raleigh) have its problems that should be the primary focus of its political leaders. Jordan Peterson is not a meaningful problem to be dealing with or writing about.

In Raleigh, I don't think the city council would post an uninformed diatribe like Durham's city council - and make no mistake, it is uninformed. I talk shit when people talk shit to me. I'd rather it not get to that point, but there are...certain...posters here that really turn it into a toxic environment. Do you honestly think there is nothing to be outraged about with this administration or the direction of the country? Do you honestly believe that there are no indicators of a society in serious disarray right now?

Because, honestly, if you think things are "mostly okay," then you are seriously highlighting how things are "mostly okay" for YOU. That is to say, a clearly racist presidency and administration that is tilting toward fascism and displaying hostility to communities of color and the working poor doesn't affect you. And if you think that those who are upset by these visible trends are only motivated by resentment rather than a sincere concern for their material conditions, then that says more about you than it does about them.


Let's be blunt: If you believe that the grievances of women, communities of color, the lgbt community, or the working poor are "fake outrage," then you are declaring that their problems are not as significant or worthy of redress as the issues of "straight white males." You are depriving them of their political agency, which means you do not view them as your equal (which, currently, you don't). This is an issue you need to come to grips with and confront.

You have two options:

1) Confront this issue of political imbalance and adjust your politics to encourage more equality
2) Shed your libertarian mask and openly endorse the fascist politics of white supremacy.

Contrapoints is one of my favorite youtubers (insightful and hilarious) and she did a video on him a few months back.



Note that Contrapoints is a transsexual woman so that's probably gonna scare away some of the people who should watch this video, but she's not one of the hypersensitive lefitsts screaming autisticly at the camera that some people are likely picturing in their mind. She's actually pretty willing to engage people with opposing viewpoints and undestanding where they are coming from before making her argument why they are wrong.

TLDR:
Dude gets put on tranquilizers because of his anxiety related to food allergies, is addicted for a while but no one notices until his wife gets cancer (huh?). Apparently, Canadian/US Doctors treat his addiction and it’s symptoms with other drugs (Benzos are still one of the most commonly abused/addicted to drugs in North America) which have him a bad reaction so his daughter, who is apparently a beef-only diet advocate, rushes him to Russia where they diagnose him with pneumonia (and withdrawal) and put him in a week long medical coma.
