We are looking solid to get in.

100 pts seems to get us ~50% chance of top 3 in the division.
94 pts gives us >50% to make the playoffs
97 pts puts us at 98.5% or better to get in the playoffs, with 70% chance of being the 7 seed or higher and avoiding Tampa.

This is from sportsclubstats, so simulation based. We want Montreal and/or Columbus to lose in order to avoid being 8th or 9th.

Tampa is in outer space, Boston has 10 pts on us, but everyone else is catchable. We are 4th in the metro behind Washington, Pittsburgh, and NYI. We have a not impossible shot at the division given that we play the Caps twice and have games in hand on everyone...specifically 2 games on PIT.

i mean basically we have to count on beating the flyers 2x and devils once and I think we are golden, but if we lose one of those and have to take one of Pens or Leafs instead we are in trouble

Was looking at the tie breaker rules in case it came down to that. I think I have this right.

First tie breaker is ROW, then earned points in head to head games*, then goal differential

*If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included.

I think Columbus would beat us on ROW in any scenario where we are tied
If Montreal ends up tied with us in ROW, they would beat us in head-to-head because of that stupid caveat. We beat them 2 out of 3 games but the first one gets thrown out because of that rule. In the two games that count, we got 2 pts (W/L) and they got 3 pts.(W/OTL)

In a 3-way tie Columbus would get in on ROW and then then the tie breaker would be applied to us and Montreal.

That Aho deal was well crafted. Average value is really good for us but with it being front-loaded with bonuses, man, in the 1st year of the contract we'd have to pay him $21.87m. That was a well-crafted contract by the Canadians to mess with us, haha.

If the price was right, I agree. At his best, he's an element we need more of.

I am a bit wary about his declined production after the trade deadline, and whatever was going on between him and Brindy during the playoffs. It sure sounded like the staff thought he could play but Ferland was making the call to sit...but since we can't know what really went on i'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
