This obviously is pretty brutal for our resume. I have no idea what our chances to make the tourney are.

But we are far too inconsistent on both ends of the court. We struggled with the zone all year. Halfcourt defense is up and down. Forcing 15+ turnovers doesn’t matter when the rest of their shots are easy layups. We need more rhythm offensively in the halfcourt. When we’re playing well it’s fun to watch and there’s a lotta things to like. But then we bog down in these brick-fests and don’t play D and we look as bad a GT (or worse). When you’re 8/35 on 3 (and I feel like 4 of those makes came in the last 2-3 mins) you have to find other ways to score. And we didn’t. I don’t mean this as a referendum on Keatts or anything. But damn. I’d like to see some adjustments or something.

Too many times this season, our best players - or who we assume should be our best players - haven’t been good enough. I don’t know if that’s a talent thing or what...but aside from Markell (and even he’s had some bad games) we haven’t had a go to guy that can get in the lane and get us a basket. It usually comes down to “will Braxton or Kell hit this 3 or not?”

Why we didn't put Harris -- by far our best on-ball defender -- in the game is beyond me. Markell's defense was just bad on that last play. Walker will get the blame, but he had to help on the drive.

Live by the 3, die by the 3. This year's squad/system is pretty one dimensional.

No identity on half court offense, and getting cut to death on defense tonight.

No excuse for getting beat by this GT squad at home at this point in the season.

We needed Dorn to be averaging 20+ ppg for us to be good. He's been terrible this year.

I was really hoping Pastner would get a tech on that last play I can’t believe with all his tantrums and meltdowns throughout the game he never got one

His conference play has been pretty bad. He's below 25% from 3 and below 60% from the line. He also has at least a few times per game where he decides hes just gonna drive 1 on 4. Terrible is a stretch although it prob fits tonight.

went from 34 to 41 Kenpom. we're a bit higher in NCAA NET rankings but expect a drop tomorrow.

obviously, winning @BC is a must now, barring some kind of ACCT miracle.

we've locked in the 8/9 game as far as I can tell, and it's also extremely likely to be against Clemson, which would be a quadrant 1 game. win @BC and against Clemson and I think we're in as a 10 seed. win @BC and lose to Clemson (not blown out) and we may still have a shot at a play-in game. Lose @BC and we'd have to beat Clemson and likely UVA (or less probably but possible UNC matchup).

Not sure why we let Braxton play 32 scoreless minutes. Even had him in with Daniels, who was actually scoring and playing tough D, on the bench. Harris should have gotten time, and Lockett would have as well had he been eligible I'd imagine.

Like synapse said, we live and die by the 3. we look like a mid-major team more than an ACC team, let alone one that was ever ranked. It was Dorn's last home game with family in the crowd, I can see why he'd have the jitters but our offense seems to hinge on whether or not Braxton is able to hit anything.

Still think we're better off than the open rebellion under Gott or the infighting with Lowe's teams. Our defense is better and we play with heart and fight the entire 40 minutes but Keatts is either gonna have to recruit better players or modify his system (three guard/two post) to make us more of a threat inside so we can still score if our 3's aren't hitting and buy that space for our guards to have open looks. Yurtseven would have been great for us this year if we had him.

Walker was godawful all game. He was godawful on the last play. Dude got abused on defense constantly. Did he even have a rebound? Literally the only positive to his game was that he didn't miss a layup. But yeah, there were multiple breakdowns on that play. Once the ball got inside the 3 point arc it was over, Walker wasn't going to be able to do shit.

Fuck I am not looking forward to another year of him. Why couldn't he be a normal grad transfer?

1) clemson is locked in they're 3 games up on bc
2) nobody really understands the new rules but I don't think we can get away with 2 bad losses without beating uva/unc/duke

the resume we put together is the type that always ends up on the wrong side of the cut line if its in that discussion. beating clemson and then virginia or whoever would get us out of that discussion, otherwise youre basically hoping for "BUT ITS THE ACC!!1" and "WE CANT LET OUR STUPID NEW RPI SYSTEM LOOK BAD" arguments to carry the day

yeah you can criticize dorn without totally discounting all the good things he's done. he's been good...but imo we need him (and Daniels and Bryce) to be better for us to be a really good team. otherwise we're just kinda hoping Braxton or Markell are hot every night because he hasn't been super reliable

Sure. He's an excellent rebounder (best on the team, easily) and usually plays hard defense, but he takes more shots than anyone else while also having one of the worst true shooting %s and efg% on the team in conference play. That's bad. He took 17 shots last night! He doesn't really turn it over much but also doesn't get assists. I hate to agree with b4c but 13 ppg on 13 shots per game isn't good enough.

Also Keatts said last night the team doesn't have a leader which is kinda an indictment of Dorn (Sr) and/or Markell (best player)

And of course Dorn isn't the worst player on our team at all, not even close. But for a Sr leader that, by choice, chance or Keatts, takes more shots than anyone, he needs to be better for State to be good.

And yeah the leadership comments are unfortunate and worrisome. Hopefully somebody can step into that role going forward...Bryce or Beverly seem like solid candidates (if Markell is unwillining or unable).

I feel like Dorn does a lot of things pretty well, except shoot/score. He's too small when he gets to the basket to play like a 4, and his shot is ugly from outside. But he's a good enough ball handler, rebounder, defender, etc to play a good amount, just needs to shoot less. Beverly, on the other hand, does nothing well except shoot sometimes and needed to sit
