Portnoy is a tool who I generally can't stand (his CWS support of us aside) but he does have a valid point. Seems an awful lot like the Bengals knew Joe's ligament/wrist was bothering him beforehand but didn't list him on any injury reports.

But that wasn't even my argument anyway-- I said just Purdy is having an MVP calibre season, because he definitely is.

I guess the 600 more rushing yards that Jackson has than Purdy is not meaningful.

Purdy is arguably the 4th (or less) most valuable player on his own offense. He's a product of playing on the most talented offense in the NFL, as evidenced by his receivers averaging 1.5 YAC/completion more than Jackson's. The 49ers lead the league in that, because their skill players are ridiculously good. I'm not saying Purdy isn't having a great year, just saying that his supporting cast is MUCH better than Jackson's, and they have put up very similar total offensive yards.

I don't think there's any question that McCaffrey is the MVP of the 49ers. He's going to end up with over 2000 scrimmage yards and already had 20 TDs, both of which lead the NFL. He's the guy who should be in the conversation with Jackson, not the QB.

if all you do is look strictly at their stats then that would be a weird way to pick the MVP. There is other context to each player.

Vegas has Purdy as the favorite (for now), but 3 games left and a head to head matchup will be interesting.

I couldn't remember the last time an RB actually won the MVP, but Adrian Peterson was the real deal.

Tgl posted a reasonable list of 3 players that are arguably more valuable to SFs offense than Purdy. 2 of those players are future HOFers and (arguably) the best current players at their respective positions in the entire league. But we know an OT isn’t gonna win league MVP. I don’t see what’s so offensive to Purdy about saying he plays on a loaded offense and wouldn’t be as good on a lesser offense. People are heaping praise on your team for having so many good players that more than 1 49er has a legit claim to the league MVP and you’re getting offended. Its weird.
