I've got to say that the columnist Terrence Moore was on point along with the white guy. Even Chuck Smith was good.
The one guy that talked after the guy that rehabbed the images and perceptions of high profile people was booed for saying that he will likely be back in the NFL after he paid his debt to society, but wouldn't be playing for the Atlanta Falcons. No doubt that a lot of Falcons fans would welcome him back, but he was just saying that the trust between Vick and the Falcons organization, which includes the owner and team, had been severed. These idiots boo him for stating the obvious. 9/25/2007 7:41:15 PM |

^^^^ even better for vick -- Gambling laws are some the most wrong, shadiest laws this country has and exist for no other reason other than to protect state monopolies on gambling. If there were ever a reason to deserve a slap on the wrist, violating a fucking gambling law is that reason.

I'm not the judge of it, but yea, if the government is getting cut out of the profit, then yea, they are going to lay down the boom, it's just the way it goes (see liquor licenses). To the government, its not just "violating a gambling law" it's more of "this guy's trying to screw us out of our cut" and the government isn't to fond of people "stealing" (in their view) money from them.

^which makes the steep fine an even better solution. As it is now, the state and taxpayers are getting screwed because we have to lock up vick. It will probably cost even more to lock vick up than a regular prisoner. All the state and taxpayers get in return is a punished vick? Who cares; that's a pretty hollow victory.

I would imagine fining any human being $20 M is unconstitutional. Now if they drum up something and call it restitution, or someone sues him, then I'm sure something could be figured out, but a flat out fine of that amount doesn't seem to fit. Either way, Vick's life is fine, if he wants it to be. He'll be out in time for the majority of the 09 season, if not all, we'll see how it all shakes out. I mean, which team in the NFL wouldn't want Vick as a backup, what's the going rate for the best backup in the NFL, 1-3 M. He can make that for 7 years, and live comfortably the rest of his life. He obviously can't be bankrolling his scholarly friends anymore or buying 250K cars every month, but he can certainly support his immediate family. Can you imagine if he writes a book? Another 5-7M easy, if I were him, I'd start on it now, assuming he can read and write. Bottom line is that if Vick wises up, he still will lead a life that 98% of Americans only dream of, he's just going to have to endure 20 months of Hell to do so, but who wouldn't do that? 12/10/2007 6:41:26 PM |

It was hardly an 8 figure gambling ring. Thats why the whole thing is so fucking ridiculous. They wre only gambling like $10k and $20k on fights. Thats one of the main reasons people are asking why he could be so stupid in all this. You have tens and tens of millions coming in, and you risk/piss it all away over fights only worth around $10k.

Thats from earlier in the thread, I'll see if I can find a link
But apparently that is fairly common in surrounding towns and counties of lots of the larger dogfighting rings that they busted up...cause remember, this might seem like a manhunt for Vick since he's the posterchild, but Vick controlled one of 12 rings that was being investigated jointly in a large longterm federal operation...he just happened to be the most famous and recognizable face to the public 12/11/2007 5:10:04 PM |

Quote : | "As previously reported Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was sentenced to prison to 23 months in prison, close to the maximum penalty, for helping to finance a dogfighting operation and destroying dogs that didn't fight aggressively enough.
Now we have learned that the NFL star may actually serve less than 1 year in prison!
Vick wants to enter the prison's Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP) - an intensive substance abuse treatment program which qualifies eligible graduates for a one year sentence reduction.
The NFL star entered the prison before his sentencing date so he may be out again by the beginning of the next year´s NFL season.
