being able to hear the Pinkerton-session versions of "Getting Up and Leaving" and "I Swear It's True" will fill some sort of Weezer fan void i used to care about

Finally checking out the new Griffin House album and so far so good. The other 2 albums of his I have were great though so I figured to like it.

it is solid. i've liked just about everything they have put out and thoroughly enjoy their live show as well. they definitely know how to craft a hook.

^^yeah they put on a great show, i hope they make it to san diego again on this tour. after that last album they didn't make it here for like a year.

funny story: at that last show, there was this annoying guy who dragged his 2 friends to the show. so the annoying guy was like singing along to all the songs, which is fine, but he would CONSTANTLY turn to his friends and like sing to them.... it was very strange.

and then when they finally get to the encore, they played "100%" (sonic youth) and "everything thermals" (b-side from their first album) and the stupid guy didn't know either of them. he just stood there puzzled.

^^ Probably because it's only $2.99.

Also, Fantasia is in the top 20.

I just gave the Lost in the Trees reissue a listen...I remember when we had them for an in-store about a year and a half ago. I thought they sounded pretty good, but tschudi said something along the lines of he felt like they just added all the orchestral stuff to make mediocre songs seem better than they are. Now, listening to the reissue a year and a half later, I realize he was dead-on. The orchestral stuff is pretty unconvincing/unnecessary and the songs are mediocre to not good. And that guy's voice is pretty annoying.

holy fuck, new kanye west/jay-z/justin vernon/rick ross/nicki minaj song, "monster," is amazing. can't picture justin vernon's voice used more perfectly in a rap song.

considering how many bands at this thing I don't know at all.

If a girl in real life was as whiny and repetitive about a boy as the girl from best coast, you would send that bitch packing with a quickness. Why putting it to music makes it ok is beyond me.

it's an album, not a conversation

specifically, it's an album about boys that's appropriately titled crazy for you

pet sounds is highly repetitive in its subject matter and it's rightly regarded as one of the best albums of all time

why didn't you make this post in the suburbs thread and bitch about motherfuckers always talking about goddamn neighborhoods and houses and buildings downtown and shit

^his problem isn't that its thematically repetitive.

he just doesn't like the theme itself.

Not everyone is off Sufjan...

It's just hard to build momentum back up when you've been off the scene for 5 years, I think. Plus, Sufjan getting backlash is no different from every other indie darling ever getting backlash.

My girlfriend and I do a webcomic, and our latest one is about a recent experience seeing the Arcade Fire in Atlanta, GA. Check it out. We update every late Monday/ early Tuesday. Be sure to zoom in to see all the details.

^^ fair enough. we aren't really going for a 'joke' comic-- more an account of lived experiences. i agree that the 'hipster critique' is an overdone topic, but we couldn't resist adding our two cents. glad you liked the artwork.

^ thanks-- that's what we're aiming for. we're still getting our feet wet at this point.

keep checking back. there will be comics about raleigh (see comic #2 for record shopping at Nice Price) and other topics you may find relevant to your own experiences.

gave ^^^ a listen

didnt realize till i was done that i had my itunes sorted wrong and listened to it last song -> first song.

it worked well for background clean the kitchen music, but not sure if i'd actively choose it out of a hat when sitting down to listen to something

not bad though

[Edited on September 2, 2010 at 6:24 PM. Reason : started with "killer" and whooo boy it was tough to not turn off and forget about the album]
