There was probably some miscommunication between him and the coaching staff over an actual spot being currently available. He may have gone ahead and announced his commitment and when word got to the coaching staff, they probably spelled out that there wasn't 100% assurance of a spot.

Of course, I'm just guessing. Good news is, he wants to play here. It's nice to have kids excited about the program. We need a big more than another guard in this class, but who knows what will happen to personnel in the next couple of months.

its not a scholarship issue as the staff has known about this announcement since at least yesterday and would have probably told him if he no longer had an offer to save everyone form embarrassment

I haven't seen him play, but scouts inc makes Torian Graham sound a lot like Courtney Fells. Very good 3-pt shooter, excellent athleticism, but a mediocre mid-range game and suspect effort at times.

I'm inclined to think that the real story is that he re-committed without properly informing Gottfried and Co., thinking that the scholarship was just waiting for him. Gottfried's preference would be to give that scholarship to Jefferson or Gathers, and Graham would be a back-up plan in case he misses on both of them. Just a guess.
