Is there one? I have listened to both a good amount and I have never heard Rome mention DP, the only time I have heard DP mention Rome is in one of the little segments they have while streaming during a commercial but it seemed like more of a joke than anything.3/20/2012 11:56:34 AM |

^I agree
I used to like Rome a lot more tho, way more of a Dan Patrick fan now since the absence of Travis Rogers.
I heard the Rome & Adam Sandler interview during the Super Bowl on Radio row and Rome asked about when he can get a guest spot on Sandler's next movie.
Sandler's response was essentially, your boy DP will be on the next one you can guest star with him etc and Rome laughed at it, changed the subject and then took it to break uncomfortably.
It just seemed like there was some beef, plus DP Paulie etc always mock Rome with the "rack 'em" comments
It just seems odd since typically they don't compete against each other since they're both broadcast at different time in major markets.
Anyway, forgot about it until now so I apologize for the blog post here, was just always curious 3/20/2012 8:40:02 PM |

Stern is a douchebag? Seriously?
I loved the response. Its a question that is intentionally designed to be loaded. If you say Yes, then you beat your wife. If you say No, then you used to beat your wife and don't any more. Either way you lose.
His point was the question is bull shite and there's no way for him to answer the question and win. Those who believe its rigged won't believe him no matter what. 6/13/2012 8:50:41 PM |

Stern is ridiculous. If he doesn't want to get the "is the draft lottery fixed?" question, then don't have a draft lottery. He's been getting this question for 25+ years, ever since the Knicks got Ewing. If you do it like the NFL and the worst team gets the best pick then no one asks that question anymore. You have to combat the question of "are teams intentionally losing games" but if you cannot control that, then you're not a very good commissioner.
The NFL created an environment that encourages players to bust their asses no matter how crappy their team is. Because you know what, if another team sees film of you half assing it to lose games on purpose, you won't have a job.
He was really a douche bag to Jim Rome in that interview and I pretty much detest listening to Jim Rome. He's typically an antagonist and poses things in ways to provoke a reaction. This clearly was not done to rile up Stern, but he took it there anyway. Stern is a dick, he's lucky he was commish during an era that had Magic, Bird, Barkley, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, and Lebron. They have kept the league alive despite his lackluster leadership skills. Fuck you David Stern. Fuck you right in the asshole. 6/13/2012 8:51:45 PM |

Obviously that's what he meant by asking "do you still beat your wife?" That's not the point. The NBA commish should be able to keep his composure a little better than that in an interview.

I dont really see any other logic to having a lottery besides having it as a means of control.
Sure teams could loose on purpuse but then the players would be fucked. 6/13/2012 10:56:45 PM |

Stern can think its ridiculous to question if the lottery is fixed but what was everyone saying the next day? I think most of what people were saying was probably joking but the format of the lottery and the position the league was in by owning one of it's own teams made the question reasonable I thought.
I'm not in the business of defending Rome, because he's a clown, but I don't think the question was accusatory. Interviewers often ask questions they know the answer to. Why didn't Stern just say:
"You know, I think the idea that perhaps our draft lottery is fixed is completly absurd. In fact, it's so absurd I hesitate to even address it. Representatives for each team are present, we have he accounting firm there, its just not realistic. No matter how it ended up there would be those that want to have a conspiracy theory. And I'd really rather not devote any more time than that to this sillyness."

Rome should have just asked him why in the hell they do the lottery behind closed doors. What the hell is the purpose of hiding it if it is not fixed. Do it live and watch dumbass team representives reactions. It would make for better TV and ratings IMO.
Stern was a total prick yesterday and the way he acted was embarrassing to the NBA. 6/14/2012 9:07:07 AM |

Stern has to have heard the accusations that his league is rigged for many years with the doughany incident and now this draft among a ton of other things. I could see why hes defensive about it but when Rome looks more professional than you that's not good. 6/14/2012 9:43:33 AM |
