^If you were as "unbiased" as you claim to be...you would have said something along the lines of "man, the reader comments after that article are all over the place...must read." Or quoted several comments...some from the anti-Rivers group (or pro-Eli/pro-Big Ben groups) and some from the pro-Rivers group.
Yet you probably pick the comment that is the most biased against Rivers. You don't give a shit about how "interesting it is to see how other people view things." If you did....then you would have just read the comments and said to yourself, "Man...it sure is interesting to see how other people view things." But when you post that comment, you are just trying to stir the pot.
Pat yourself on the back Jaybee....you are one of the most unbiased Sports Talk posters. However, in this instance (and several others)...you are just trying to stir the pot and be a troll. 8/7/2009 2:57:13 AM |

no no... if I was on a neutral website then I would have done what you said... but on this site there was no need to post his positive side as everyone is well aware of it and mentions it all the time. You can't find one. When all of the other players are heading out to the club, Rivers is driving home to be with his family. That's exactly where I'd want my franchise quarterback to be." |

Rivers being fined for "taunting" in the game the other day. I don't disagree with the fine as it looks bad on replay and I think more players should be fined for such actions, but it's ironic because I doubt his words were very harsh compared to what other players say. I mean he doesn't use foul language; it was probably fairly comical 9/19/2009 7:21:46 AM |

From what I've heard, he was basically just yelling at the raider to stop on the whistle, since that play was blown dead but the raider lineman came through anyway (that was the play Hardwick was hurt I think).

I saw one comment (can't remember if it was a blog, messageboard, article or whatever -- but it came from the oakland side of things) that indicated that when he bent down he said "I'm nowhere near as horrible as your quarterback"
made it seem like he was retorting to something. i dunno.

Quote : | "San Diego’s Philip Rivers was extraordinarily efficient against the Dolphins, averaging a solid 8.7 YPA on the day. He sports an impressive 8.5 yards per attempt for the season and – we should have noted this last week – now counts himself “officially” among the all-time leaders in two key passing categories: passer rating and yards per attempt.
During San Diego ’s Week 2 loss to Baltimore , Rivers surpassed the minimum 1,500 career pass attempts required to qualify for official NFL records.
Following the win over Miami , Rivers’ career stat line now looks like this:
957 of 1,542 (62.1%), 11,688 yards, 7.58 YPA, 81 TD, 39 INT, 92.36 passer rating
If you’re not impressed by the numbers, you should be. He’s fifth all time in passer rating, just ahead of the great Joe Montana. Here’s the top six in career passer rating as of the end of Week 3 of 2009: Steve Young (96.81) Peyton Manning (95.11) Kurt Warner (93.45) Tom Brady (92.41) Philip Rivers (92.36) Joe Montana (92.26) With an average of 7.58 YPA, Rivers ranks in the top 20 all time in this key indicator of success.
Rivers is also on the very short list of passers in NFL history with a TD to INT ratio of better than 2 to 1 (2.08 to 1). The record is held by Brady, who’s thrown 2.27 TDs for every INT.
That’s winning football, and Rivers is a winner, with a 35-16 (.686) career record following Sunday’s win" |

If not...we should still vote.
Manning and Brady will most definitely be 1 and 2....and everyone else has wet dreams about Big Ben. But would still like to see Philip get that 3rd slot...especially since he got shafted last year. 11/18/2009 8:40:22 AM |

Phil deserves it more than Brees this year definitely. Although the Saints are undefeated. I think he's got Big Ben easy imo.

Rivers stats so far this year:
2476 yards (6th best) 16 TDs (8th best) 62.2% completion percentage (13th best) 97.9 QB Rating (7th best) only 6 INTs (tied for 20th most) 275 yds/game (6th best)
those are pro-bowl numbers. it is a shame that Manning and Brady are in the AFC so it is always going to be a little tougher for Philip to make it (at least for a couple more years while Manning and Brady are still in their primes) but he should be the third choice this year.
His toughest comp. will be Schaub and Big Ben. Schaub is having an outstanding year and is also deserving. Would love to see Rivers get it this year though. Big Ben has less TDs, more INTs, a lower QB rating, and less yards. It should be between Rivers and Schaub IMO but Big Ben will have a lot of fan support. 11/18/2009 10:13:12 AM |
jbrick83 All American 23447 Posts user info edit post |
Right now, Philip is definitely on the outside looking in...maybe even behind Schaub and Palmer, as well as Big Ben.
But if San Diego can keep their momentum going and only lose a game or two (beating Cincy would be huge) and Philip keeps up the great play, then I can definitely see making a big run at it.
Would also help if our poll skewers could get in on the aciton. 11/18/2009 11:21:22 AM |

Also remember that the super bowl teams' players won't be eligible to play
So there's a good shot an extra spot with open up
Although getting invited only because someone else can't go is sort of bittersweet 11/18/2009 11:25:09 AM |
