Man, on IGN the PS3 version got 7.7 and the 360 version got an 8.7, all because of the 30 fps ordeal.

They say the game can skip because of it and make the timing not correct and even keeps you from enjoying the nice new animation system. This is such a bummer. I'm pretty upset at EA for not getting this done for the PS3. I'm pissed at Sony as well for not making for damn sure that this get done. Very disappointing.

I got it last night, the game is great. They fixed all my complaints about '07 (cutscenes b/w every play, general slugishness) and it's way better.

It feels super responsive, it hiccups sometimes but mostly b/w plays... nothing that affects gameplay. The 60 vs 30 is being blown way out of proportion.

I think the whole 'creating problems when playing' only happens during certain graphical overloads.
But if you say there isn't a diff between 60 and 30 fps you are crazy. 60 is the gel-like fluid look that rocks shit, 30 is baseline expectations on a console for shooters and whatever. To say there is a negligible difference is kind of an off statement. Not that 30 is bad mind you, and although 60 fps is clearly superior in this case, if you own a ps3 its not like you are getting a turd or anything. Sure - not as good, but hampering gameplay? Hrmm, not so sure about that. We'll have to wait on more reviews.

I think the reason they couldnt get this done on the ps3 is really the development hump to streamline code on the cell processor. From what I read, the whole taco is about the cell - the ps3 is fucking amazing at doing a lot of small things in parallel (for instance, gene folding - many coordinated tasks at once) but when it comes to dependent "vertical" structure in code - it's somewhat limited. To streamline you have to build from base-up with the cell's paralleling architecture in mind (branching code instead of dependent trees).

Also the memory and gpu is clocked less than the 360, so it NEEDS the power of the cell. The advantages are that if a developer can make use of the cell's power, it can do unbelievable shit - problem is, no one is talented enough to get this done quite yet. I feel we'll see the powerhouse titles not really showing up until 08 then things will change.

About that much ballihood EGM review of Lair, they had a podcast the other day where they explained whey they gave it such a poor review, summarized here.

Seriously, dragon's shooting fireballs isn't realistic? I still maintain the game will be hit or miss with most people, but if you're gonna shit on a game like they did, I think you need to come with better reasons than that. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but a supposedly "professional" publication is supposed to be a little less subjective than that.

^ I trust IGN way more than Gamespot, but I was pretty surprised at what they did with Madden. Either way though, the weak frame rate should make it have a lower score.

By the way I think the game is pretty good on the PS3. The frame rate never bothered me and I haven't seen any hiccups at all during gameplay. The game is 10x better than last years Madden and its definitely worth it if you want a good game of football.

My only real concern is the length. $60 bucks for a ~10 hour game with no multi-player? Granted, new DVDs cost $20 and are around ~2 hours long, so I guess you can justify if that way.

Ok, so we've got about 1.5 weeks until Warhawk hits. how many of you guys are getting it? Downloading or getting the retail version?

I'm going to be downloading it I think, mainly because I want to be able to play the game without putting a disc in, I like that.

I'm pumped about it, should be a lot of fun. I thought the demo was great.

Not sure what at all to buy if anything, but i guess resistance and that psn game everyone raves about, super stardust HD.

Depends on what you like. Warhawk is a whole lot like Battlefield, and its completely online, so if you are in that type of thing then go for it. Its only $40 if you download it.

If you want a good party game to play with people, Calling All Cars is awesome. I play that with friends all the time. Very fun game.

I think Resistance is definitely a must too. I've had a whole lot of fun with that game. Looks like Heavenly Sword is going to be awesome too. Only about a month away on that one. Pumped.

it looks like you have to spend at least $200 bucks to get it (i.e. $120 bucks for the wine, apply for a credit card, and spend another $45 on vonage just to get the three "C" level requirements) why on earth would you do this when you can usually find deals going on that gets the price down to just a hundred bucks more?

^ well those offers arent static.....you do have to have a bit of patience on what offers you choose as they change. I only ended up getting a new citibank credit card, spending 50 bucks on 12 bottles of wine (which i am actually cool with!), and about 20 odd dollars on magazine promotions and blockbuster online, shit like that.

Yeah you spend a bit, you definitely aren't getting it for 'free' per se, but it's damn near close, and you do get stuff back for your offers, most of em. Even if it is the NY times newspaper, ET weekly, or blockbuster online, wine, shit like that.

And of course you have to go through with the crap to cancel everything, but all for all - the PS3 is free. I've been doing this only for 2.5 weeks.

So I'm wondering what market research led Viacom to do this? They were selling more of their own titles on Bluray. Bluray has been outselling HD-DVD 2:1, and there is a greater user base. its all about the money though I guess. Its just dirty I think.

Rumor is that this is through 2008, so they can take their money now, sell their stuff on HD-DVD, and then do whatever they want in 1.5 years. Who knows though, HD-DVD could turn it up once the cheap players come out, but honestly, its the weaker format.
