^ Wonderful idea! imo, if you send a cool bottle thing for just the save the date, you've gotta up the invitation. Also, shipping will probably be a headache unless you hand deliver most of them.

It was super easy too Just sign up for their newsletter and buy the postcards when they're "free." Then you're just paying the $2.50 to upload your own design (that's what I did) or you can use one of their premade designs and you just pay s/h.

Also, I agree with the bottles being a bit much for the save-the-date. Most people are going to go, "Oh neat..." and chuck it in the trash eventually. Save the chucking in the trash for the actual invite if that's what you want to do

oh..good to know about their newsletter. i was also looking at using them for my save the dates. my cousin is going to design our save the dates. she's an art teacher and sells art on the side. she has some cute characters.

was it $2.50 per postcard to upload your own image? or just a one-time fee?

mine? or anyone's in general?

i'll show you mine once it's created. it may be a while since we're not getting married until october of next year, though! if anyone is interested in my cousin creating your save the date, i'm sure she'd be happy to do it for a small fee.

^this was our prototype. the final that we sent to everyone was 4x9 and there were three different versions as we had difficulty choosing a favorite sequence to send to everyone. the photostrip was mounted to a black/brown striped card stock which was mounted to cream card stock; we glued magnets to the back. it in no way incorporated our "theme" for the rest of the wedding. we just wanted to do something fun w/ a magnet so people would put it on their fridge.

One time fee. And if you decide you need to print more later you don't need to repay the fee.

Ahh well, I know a save the date is just suppose to be a little part of the wedding but since I already bought my invites for super cheap (print yourself at home, no real "cost") and they weren't anything too special, I decided to just say f-it and get the mini bottles and do the message in a bottle. My family all lives in the same area so we will just hand out a large majority of them...For those we do mail, it won't cost more than 60 cents to mail the bottles. I'm excited about them even if it is over the top for a Save The Date.

I went with the silver topped ones without the corks.

^^where in Vegas?

We are not doing Save the date cards since we are doing a small destination wedding, with less than a 1/2 year engagement. I already ordered the invitations though.

i think they are really cute.
it's you and your future husband's wedding...if thats what you want to do-then do it!

we have a couple of things we're doing that are pretty over the top, but cody and i really, really want them so we said F-it too.
it's our day

^Aw, I know hon I loved yours too. I wish we could afford a photo booth at the reception...It would be so fun! At Orton did you rent the scenic river overlook?

I finished a mock up of the message in a bottle using the FREE maps my kick ass friends got for me and my 40% off bottles. Now to find a sandbox to steal some sand from...

Even if I could afford the booth, the idea has been "claimed"...My fiance's best man proposed a week after J proposed to me so the past three months has been me and him trying not to step on his best man and fiancee's toes...(she is a BM in mine and I am one in hers...) and she has already staked claim to the photobooth idea(and green bridesmaid dresses, monogrammed towels, and a few other things too...) I personally think it is such an adorable idea and that it wouldn't matter if she did the same thing or not....but my fiance said it'd be like a declaration of war.

Tell your friend if she has a mac to use photobooth - it's bascially a program that takes photo booth style pictures that can be printed out a variety of sizes.

to your fiance's reasoning. Nothing is original in weddings and the photobooth idea DEFINITELY isn't original. They've become as commonplace as the champagne toast and tiered cake. Would this woman pitch a fit if you had those at your wedding?

haha who knows. I know nothing is original but fiance says the photobooth is suppose to be a "surprise" and you know how brides can be sort of delusional. She came at me with this "Let's plan together" spill and I was up for helping until she started being like, "What color BM dresses are you doing...because I'M going with GREEN." I stopped sharing ideas with her because it was like a pissing contest. I mentioned monogramming beach towels for my beach wedding..and she was like..."Oh.....*disappointed frown*...you know, I had planned on doing hand towels since I AM having a country club type wedding but I guess it makes more sense for yours...."

Joie - congrats on making the big decisions. I hope it goes well I went by the flea market this weekend and thought of you. Have you been?

^ Yeah I would keep as far away from that as possible and just do what you want to do. If she actually gets pissed at something in your wedding, she's a crazy bitch that you don't need to be concerning yourself with.

^^you're letting her need to be 'unique' really get in the way of planning your own wedding. I agree, no ideas are really original (the savethedates above have prob been done before, too!). You can't let her, her fiancé, or YOUR fiancé make you feel guilty for doing what you want. Is her wedding going to be before yours? I'd stop sharing ideas with her, too. I think planning should be fun and a time for you to preserve some great memories, so make sure you're having fun!!

I have a silly question

Do you guys think it's cheesy to get married on your anniversary date? I.e., our anniversary is April 28th. Well, it's looking more and more likely that we will be having a 2012 wedding (due to being out of state for school because USC and Mt Sinai are my top choices)... and I just realized April 28, 2012, is a Saturday... it'll also be our 5 year anniversary.

Soooo... what say you? Cheesy or no?

cody and i debated on having our june 23rd 2012, which would be 5 years from the day we met....
but there is no way i want to even partly plan a wedding my P3 year! aha
and i also didn't really want to wait that long

so yeah-GO FOR IT!

haha, I love Jeremy. He is such a planner. I'll definitely go out. Hope you will come too!

As for pharm school, I cannot even imagine. Snaps for you.

So who went to the bridal show this weekend? Was it overwhelming or what?

I liked the photographer Johnny Wells. He was this little guy all by himself on the last row and his stuff just blew me away...he was more photojournalistic style. Any favorites?

I told Eric and he agreed it would be a good idea... mainly because then he would "only have one anniversary date to forget" (not that we would keep celebrating our dating anniversary but whatev)

soooo... I looked up the USC academic calendar for 2012 (since I already know I would be "done" until graduation around that time at Mt Sinai).... Classes end May 1st and finals wouldn't start til May 3rd, then graduation

I think would be able to swing it if I go to one of those places

Pretty sure 99% of wedding photographers are considered photojournalist style these days We're going to be using Story Photographers. They've been great to work with so far and their pricing was amazing.

As far as the anniversary thing goes, do it! Even if I could remember when our anniversary was I doubt we would do it then since it was some time in August. August = HUMIDITY HORROR.

We tried to do the anniversary thing, it was March 22, 2008 and it was a Saturday, but of course that year it was the day before Easter, so it was a no go. Had to change it to March 1. We still kinda celebrate both though, since if we had gotten married then it would have been our 7 year anniversary.

It really all depends on if I go to USC or Mt Sinai but I think it would work out really nicely... Especially because I'll have 2 years to plan so I would have plenty of time to get my shit together before the big day arrives, even if it turns out to be right around exams!

Then we can get married, I can take my exams, graduate, THEN GO TO DISNEY WORLD BITCHESSSS

"Vera Wang & David’s Bridal Say “I Do”
Apr 20, 2010 @ 11:44 am
It’s every bride-to-be’s dream come true—Vera Wang is partnering with David’s Bridal on a new collection of gorgeous and affordable wedding gowns. This means Wang’s coveted, glamorous designs, which have graced famous brides like Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman and Ivanka Trump and can cost upwards of $15,000 for a custom piece, will soon be within every woman’s reach and wallet—all dresses will be under $1500! “At David’s I think I will be able to bring a taste level. I’ve been doing this for 20 years in September…what is the point if I can’t share all this work [via] a brand that is reliable and credible to people,” Wang told WWD. The 20-gown collection hits David’s Bridal stores in Spring 2011. "
