right, but so do Yates, Ponder, Turner, Tyrod Taylor and Sewell (or whoever UVA ends up starting)...I just think it's kind of ridiculous based on what we saw last year to put Harris at 10th in the ACC as far as QBs

"Underrated -- Russell Wilson, N.C. State: I wanted to put down Robert Griffin here, but I think buzz has grown around him, so I'm going in a different direction. Sure, a lot of fans know about Wilson, but I just want to remind people how good this guy looks. How about that 17-to-1 TD/INT ratio as a true freshman? He's a playmaker, flat out, and can deliver with his arm, legs or whatever is needed. It will be fun to watch Wilson, Griffin and Pryor develop as they are all kind of similar players from the same class."

Problem is that Wilson wasn't a true freshman.

If you need a good game to watch, the 03 game at the Horseshoe is on TWC #331, scroll over to tOSU at the menu, it's the big X on demand.

^^ Yeah BC's athletic department always sends me stuff in the mail b/c I ordered tickets through their site one time. I never got off of the email list b/c of gems like that one.

They were really good seats too! Endzone lower bowl, 13 rows up.

^^good one, Ponder threw for 14 TDs and 13 INTs while Harris threw for 12 TDs and 7 INTs...Ponder really looks like the better QB Yates' numbers were somewhat better than Harris', but not by much and I think Harris has a lot more upside than Yates.

Ponder also rushed for almost 500 yards last season but I do think it's debatable on who is the better signal caller at this point. We'll see how this one plays out.

On the other hand, Yates' numbers were significantly better than Harris'. Yates is a much better pure passer although Harris can make a few plays with his legs. I expect big things from Yates this season even with a young receiving corps.

so we got tickets to the panthers preseason vs. the steelers for my wife's dad's retirement gift (he's a big steelers fan). i thought that game was the day after the NCSU vs. SC. it's not. it's the same day.

^ yep. not going to the panthers game. and neither are you. if you think the 4th preseason game is going to be remotely entertaining, then you are quite wrong. then factor in that you are missing college football kickoff in carter finley vs South Carolina and you should hate your life.

you cannot possibly miss the ncstate game.

seriously

(ps: thats a pretty shitty retirement gift...but then again it is your father-in-law)

not really, Harris had a higher completion percentage and like half the INTs.

Quote :

riiight, they had basically the same completion percentage but Harris threw for 1 more TD and a couple more INTs...Yates' numbers were marginally better, but the difference between Ponder and Harris is significantly greater than the difference between Yates and Harris

I actually expect Harris to be pretty damn good before it's all said and done. I think having him split time with Marve last year hurt him, as it seemed like he could never get in a rhythm. The few times he did, he was looked really good. It can only help that his go-to WR was his favorite target in high school -- Aldarius Johnson.

I completely agree, that decision made me question Randy Shannon's coaching ability...Harris was obviously the better of the two but he insisted on continuing to play Marve. I guess part of it was probably trying to keep Marve from transferring (which ended up happening anyway), but it was a poor decision nonetheless.

Also, Southern Pigskin picked our opener as the 4th best week 1 game:
Quote :
"
4. South Carolina at NC State – This ACC-SEC clash will open the college football season. Featured here are two teams that are somewhat hard to get a read on this pre-season. Many think NC State will challenge for the ACC Atlantic Division title. South Carolina, who made a New Years’ Day bowl game last year, has some holes to feel. The Wolfpack were shutout against USC last fall. With a healthy Russell Wilson under center, expect more this time around."

Yates' passer rating was nearly 30 points higher than Harris' while Harris' rating was only 10 points higher than Ponder's and, like I mentioned, Ponder also gained nearly 500 yards on the ground. How exactly does that translate to a marginal separation between Yates and Harris and a significant one between Ponder and Harris?

This is how it translates: both Yates and Harris completed 60% of their passes, one threw for 11 and 4 the other for 12 and 7 which as far as I'm concerned isn't a huge difference, while Ponder completed 55% of his passes and threw for 14 and 13. Ponder had basically a 1:1 TD:INT ratio, which is garbage. And Harris rushed the ball way less than Ponder and had a shittier offensive line which is why his rushing numbers weren't as good. I would chalk up the difference in passer rating b/w Yates and Harris to the fact that Shannon kept pulling Harris out of the game to put Marve in which kept him from getting in any sort of rhythm offensively.

HD rated our receiving corp as #5 in the ACC:
Quote :
"5. NC State -- Jarvis Williams and Owen Spencer are ready to elevate their games as redshirt juniors, and now have one season as starters to build upon. Their chemistry with Russell Wilson should be better and they were No. 3 in the ACC in passing offense a year ago. Williams caught 26 passes for 432 yards and four touchdowns in 2008. Spencer could be a big-play threat if he cuts down on the dropped balls."

I understand what you're saying, and agree with you, but if I were to give her the benefit of the doubt, I'd say that just b/c we improve doesn't mean that the rest of the conference couldn't improve by a greater margin, thus elevating the entire group.

^ good point, i considered that initially but then i thought, which team's QB-WR corp is going to get soo much better? I guess she's talking about actual talent at WR but then, alot of that depends on who's throwing them the ball.

Interesting Story in reference to my run in with three UNC defensive lineman yesterday. So Im eating lunch at Rudino's pizza off of Hwy 54/Fayetteville St. in Durham in the NCSU section of the restaurant and I overhear these 3 blk dudes talking to one of the managers at Rudino's and they were saying:

-"Yeah we are going to beat the hell out of them in their home stadium..the second guy goes-yeah they caught us on an off evening, and the third one goes-yeah I read somewhere online that we have 9 potential first round draft picks on our defensive line'.

So i turn around to see who the hell these dudes were and what bullshit they were saying when two of them go to this UNC football poster and sign their name on it. The three of them finish the conversation by saying they could dont care at all about FSU or VT as long as they embarrass the hell out of us in Carter Finley on Nov. 28th. All i could do was smile and flash a Wolfpack sign b/c they dont care about the Seminoles, Hokies or even GT for that matter........

my friends we are OFFICIALLY in their head!! Oh and the one who signed his named on the UNC football poster said he's so goddamn tired of turning on espn or picking up the paper and hearing about NCSU this or NCSU that and saying how if we are so good then why the hell are we not ranked in the pre-season??

I wish you guys could of been there man...these three dudes were pissed that State was getting all the press and clearly they were still reeling from that ass beating' we laid on them last season!

I just wanted to pass the story along.....man I cant fucking wait until the season starts!!

GO PACK!!

I've been to Kenan Stadium twice. The first time I watched TA fumble on the goal line. The second time I listened to the UNC fans in my section chant "CAMERON SEXTON!" b/c they were down by three touchdowns. Even trade

^^ I like it. Beating the shit out of UNC in their house got the tarholes all riled up. Maybe now we can have a real rivalry, which would be great since it's just so freakin' easy to hate those douchebags
