I'm not arguing against covering fire. But if I know what building the sniper is in and my job is covering fire, I'm going to hit the windows of that building with controlled fire. Maybe I misinterpreted what was said earlier because it sounded like people were advocating busting off an entire LMG clip in the general direction of an enemy just to help cross a road, when a concentrated effort against that same sniper would be more effective and efficient.

When you watch a movie and somebody says "cover me", the guy in the movie might have unlimited ammo because its a movie. In real life, or in COD, you don't have unlimited ammo.

The entire point of covering fire is to make the enemy seek shelter from the loud spray coming at them. If you are tap shooting, the enemy may be less inclined to seek said shelter, and may tap shoot right back at you, or even worse, at the dude running for a better strategic position under the false assumption that his teammate is actually protecting his ass.

Which is worse, wasting a few extra bullets, or watching your buddy choke on his own blood for your shitty accuracy score?

just cause you guys are either uncoordinated as shit or something else doesnt mean the only way to provide covering fire is to blast wildly to scare someone...my shots count...I get tons of "you've saved a teammate" or whatever kills...but its clear now that some of you really suck at shooting accurately and you're trying to justify it by bringing up irrelevant situations

Also, you have difficulty reading because you some how came to the conclusion that accuracy is bad when we brought up the need for covering fire in certain situations using certain support classes.

anytime you get one to put his head down with suppressing fire he generally turns around, whips out his shotgun and points it at the door, unless of course he knows his shit and has already rigged the access with claymores.

Best way to take care of a sniper in COD4 was UAV Jammer, silenced p90, and enough suppressive fire from teammates to draw the snipers attention.

Thats how you win, IMHO. You've gotta have both stat whores and suppressors. Hell, I've seen teams actually run it in formations, with guys running point and all. Those are usually the best teams... those that have a gameplan going into it, and maintain constant communication throughout.

so after last night i'm having second thoughts on my lust for the m16. everyone else is just spraying a scar, acr, or p90. i can't get in accurate shots when being killed through walls via random spray /w fmj. maybe i'll try stopping power? then again i'll get the acr tonight so i could just noob it up that way.

^^I think it's going to take a few months for the game to really take the shape it was intended to.

World at War never got to this point because it was so plagued with cheaters and map hacks, but in the final months before MW2's release i went back and played nothing but COD4. I had some of the best and hardest matches i had ever played with a lot of tactics and strategy other than just blazing around corners and burning through a clip. Using flash bangs to clear out rooms and bunkers, covering others while they breached the entry way, quick sharp shooting instead of all out open fire and people who actually wanted to plant the bomb with some sort of game plan. It was great.

Christmas will set this back longer, but once the kids and the spray and prayers get bored they'll move on to something else and you'll really be able to use the set ups you want and play the game at the pace and style you want.

the m16 is in my normal cycle right now (i've been switching between the ACR, M16, and the mini-uzi). The biggest thing i've noticed with the M16 is the difference with and without stopping power. I always have to use stopping power now. It makes it so that 1 accurate burst will do the job, and with FMJ makes it better. It just took a while to get used to the whole 3 shot burst action.

Even though it might seem nice to just rock the ACR, the extra bullets youll have to pump into the enemy to kill them is very noticeable, despite it's high accuracy.

the score posted there only takes into account your non-challenge points. It's likely that you've completed more challenges than he has, but hes gotten more in-game points like kills, captures, assists, etc.. obviously challenge points will boost you higher level faster.
