^I don't even know what I'd do in that kind of situation. I'm guessing a lot of people abandon their cars and walk to a nearby store, church, shelter, etc.

EDIT: 31 pages of icy hype.

Yeah you'd need to get off the road. This is also why you should have a blanket in the car if you're driving around, just to be safe.

Jeez that's awful.

Was sleet here in stedman from maybe 3:30 till about 10:30 or so before slowly and increasingly changing over to snow. Coming down right nice now.

Still snowing here just south of downtown.

Drove my car around the neighborhood around 1 1/2 hrs ago for a bit, just to see how the car is with it's (almost) bald front tires (FWD vehicle). Not bad, 3-4" of snow is pretty easy to drive on even with the tires in crappy shape.

back roads in union/Mecklenburg county are sheets of ice. 30+ wrecks already at 5:30 AM this morning said the radio traffic guy. Main roads are all good. Hope you guys in Raleigh enjoy but stay safe.

The news says not to go anywhere, and we have a state of emergency. That's enough for my ass to stay in bed. I texted my boss to see if he's driven today since he's an early bird. But no reply yet.

Chapel Hill roads and bridges were fine. NCSU cancelled all classes today, UNC has only cancelled classes until noon, so here I am at work with a 7:15 meeting that did happen!

^^^i took 70 to Miami to Ellis road in RTP today, and had no problem getting in. Backroads are still pretty packed, and you will most definitely slide a bit if you try silliness.

That said, I have a 4WD truck, so confidence level may vary...

I walked my dog this morning and my complex parking lot is powder on top of ice (I guess where the cars drove last night). Secondary roads are about the same. I didn't get to Chapel Hill Road or Harrison but it didn't look, per WRAL, that those have been cleared yet.

LOL, WRAL just showed Six Forks Road (my office is at North Hills) and its ridiculous. Not a single snow plow has hit it. Really ridiculous that we are opening at 10am IMO. I'm working from home regardless as is my whole team.

what do you do that you work that many days in a row?

is it going to get over freezing today? or is the only road melt going to come from people driving on them?

I came in because I live a mile from work, but it's deserted here. Maybe 5% of the usual folks here so far.

Its gonna be 2 days before they get even a decent amount of streets cleaned. Its not melting today either which doesnt help.

Had a guy out on a 4wheeler this am when I was walking the dog. Slid out and flipped into a ditch

He was ok, but I think he quit after that.

Have to go into central Cary for work from Southwest Raleigh--not the farthest to go, but I hear Chatham St. on the Raleigh side is a mess. Cary clearly salted it, only moisture on it last night, but the second I hit Raleigh on Chatham St. last night it was covered in snow. They clearly forgot to salt that stretch.

^^^Yea same here. Most of us in the office live close and take the bus in, so we came in. But pretty much anybody that drives didn't show up. So its a ghost town.

DOT is still working on 40/440. Then itll be US1 and 64. Then the local roads.

Town of Cary has their own trucks and snowplows. You are better off complaining at them about roads in Cary.

Just headed into work from Raleigh -> Cary

40/440 are in pretty decent shape, that said the secondary roads are in pretty lousy shape. The snow has gotten fairly well packed down and its getting a bit slick as opposed to the normal slushie side of things.

If you have an excuse not to go out I'd take it.

Just went to bojangles. Gorman street is in decent shape, but the intersection at Western is pretty shitty. The side roads like thistledown are still covered in snow/ice and my apartment parking lot is a sheet of ice. Hoping that it will stick around and re-freeze tonight and we'll eek out another snow-day

So the hill is clear?? I'd love to sit there and watch people attempt to drive up that when covered in snow/ice.

2/3 of my group made it in today. Guess the roads here in the Triad aren't too bad.

My office is officially closed, but people (incl) my boss are there anyway. Whatever, I'm working from home.

BTW it will not get above freezing tonight and the overnight low tonight is 13°F. Salt stops working (to thaw snow/ice) at 20°F so expect the roads to get nasty overnight. I'd even fathom to say they'll be more treacherous tomorrow morning than they were this morning.
