USF is top 20 and were looking like were gonna fight for the championship...only 6 years in the BE and we have gone to 6 bowl games. Give these guys an AQ and they can start taking some of the recruits that NC, NC St and others normally get. They just scared the hell out of Vtech and only lost by 1 TD. I watched the game and if they had more depth, they had that game...same is true for their 1st game against South Carolina. They were up on them and rockin, but dont have the depth. This is WVU version 2 if they get an AQ. Nobody is going to be impressed with their academics but I dont care anymore. Let the ACC brag about how smart they are while ECU stomps them.
Nice part about not being respected...you no longer have to worry. Give the little guys a chance and when they kick [Craig James], we can laugh at the goody goody ACC crew. " - one of many "for ECU" chatter on blogs" |

I like it. The PAC-12 already negotiated their tv deal, what would they have to gain by bringing on four new teams to dilute the payout? Plus it give a nice big finger to Texas.
That or they're just covering their asses like the SEC did before getting and official request from Texas A&M.9/21/2011 6:40:49 AM |

From the article posted above:

My interpretation - Texas wouldn't drop the LHN bull crap, and we're not expanding without them, so ... we'll just say we're happy with 12 teams.
Texas is a fine school when it comes to athletics, but they bullied the Big 12 into more or less falling apart with their own TV network deal. Other schools got pissed they were getting a bigger cut (essentially, since they didn't have to split their TV deal). I hope they get left out in the cold in all this and end up as an independent (which they'll make a ton of money from anyway).
I don't want them in the ACC because you're setting a precedent for all schools to be only concerned about themselves. I don't think they would have ended up here anyway. Who knows though, this realignment stuff is changing every day. There is no telling who we end up with.
Perhaps we should go ahead and start the "Two Super Mega-Conferences with Thrity Two Teams Each!" thread.9/21/2011 7:30:23 AM |

Yeh, it's why Texas is expected to go to ACC or become independent (b/c ACC is expected to be the only conference to let them keep the LHN)

^^ Yea - I agree. I just hope we aren't stupid enough to have them come in with that network and bully around this conference in the same fashion. If you want your own TV network, go independent. I seriously doubt it would harm their revenue too much in football. Finding a conference that will take you for other sports and not football would be a little more difficult though, but as has been stated many times in this thread, this is all about the football. 9/21/2011 8:18:10 AM |

Two things
1) ACC probably will stay at 14 now, because they have this weird idea that Syracuse owns NYC, which isn't true on their own.
2) Forget about ACCT in MSG. With UConn, Rutgers, St Johns, Seton Hall and Nova still in the BE basketball conference it ain't leaving MSG.. 9/21/2011 8:21:15 AM |

I don't think anyone's under the impression that Cuse owns NYC. But it does help, in combination with Duke, to fling the NYC doors wide open.
But yeah, the ACC will probably stay at 14 unless it looks like the Big East might actually do something proactive to prevent UConn from leaving. If that happens (since the 27month period obviously didn't scare anyone off) then the ACC might make a rush grab for UConn and whoever the hell else the higher ups are actually looking at (I'm not convinced it's Rutgers, ND's obvious but unlikely).
Quote : | "So, academics? When did we slip to dead last in the ACC, tied with FSU? " |
When the NCGA decided that educational funding wasn't a priority anymore. UNC's ranking has fallen as well, although not as dramatically as it should have (considering their current athletic issues have spilled over into academics).
We've gone down something like 20 places in the last decade, and you can probably look to funding as the ultimate problem.

So obviously this is all up in the air--but a few questions:
-If the PAC-12 is not expanding, then that may leave Oklahoma and OK State with nowhere to go. Rumors of the death of the Big 12 exaggerated? Pull it back together, invite some replacement teams, and carry on? Or is the dissolution of that conference a done deal?
-I don't get the hate for Rutgers. Sure, their teams are nothing special now, but there is a lot of potential and they have been upgrading facilities. Plus they're a good fit academically (unlike WVU or Louisville), they get us a piece of the NYC television market, and they make sense geographically as Jersey is definitely on the Atlantic Coast. Of course, now that the ACC may stand at 14 if the dominoes abruptly stop falling, it may be a moot point.
-Finally, why the hell does Penn State keep getting mentioned in this thread as a possible ACC member? Not in a million years would they leave the Big 10. 9/21/2011 2:53:23 PM |

And if we add 2 more BE teams, shouldn't we do it soon? It would be awful to have 1 year (2014) of 14 teams and then go to 16 the following year, since the BE is sticking to their 27 month notification policy. 9/21/2011 3:24:48 PM |

I think they want to add more, but don't want to jump the gun and add 2 more BE teams if somehow better/bigger schools are still in play. I think they know they can get 2 more BE teams at anytime to get to 16 but aren't in a hurry right now till they see how the rest shakes out. I give the ACC powers that be credit actually, I mean we are a bad football conference that has gone from potentially losing our best football teams one week to being talked about gaining ND and a solid conference the next. I don't really agree with all of it, but impressive turnaround to pull off though.9/21/2011 4:02:48 PM |

yeah, I travel by campus occasionally and see that (and still going on, saw the destruction of Talley for the first time in early August), but they just went on and on and on at the time about how if this thing didn't past how it would harm education in the UNC school system due to all the funds that'd get sidetracked, and it did anyway

Here's a good rundown of every conference's current situation (ACC below)
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/22/sports/ncaafootball/after-realignment-jitters-calm-returns-to-college-football.html?_r=2&ref=sports
Quote : | "THE A.C.C. Don’t expect the Atlantic Coast Conference to make any sudden moves. It was out of character for the league to grow to 14 colleges to become the largest major conference in football in the country. Unless a university of tangible financial value surfaces (Notre Dame or Texas), the A.C.C. will stay at 14 for the near future. There is little chance it will add UConn or Rutgers anytime soon, unless it is to complement a college of significant football value.
University presidents do not mind leaving leagues so bludgeoned that they need tourniquets, but killing one would be frowned upon. The only people who do not realize this are UConn officials, who are tripping over themselves to leak stories about their unhappiness with the Big East, which hurts that league’s efforts to look stable and expand. But UConn, which has no athletic director and a new president, may have nowhere to go. Because most realignment decisions are driven by football, joining Massachusetts in the Mid-American Conference could be UConn’s best available option at this point." |
Thought this was interesting in the SEC section...
