Had he ended this at he car door then there would be no question that it was justified. But 50 yards down the street? Look, I know these guys are in stressed out situations all the time and I can't say what I would or would not do after the initial encounter...but I can say that given this guy was a swisher sweets thief and presented neither a knife or gun in the first encounter and was in the process of running away that it seems to be way more prudent to pursue the guy at a distance until help arrived. We don't really know what caused him to turn around and come back at the officer. Anything is possible but it's very strange to me that the kid was shot once, appeared to run away, then decided "fuck it, I'm going to charge this guy who already shot me once when all I have is my fists"? Maybe blacks in Ferguson have been shit on so much by the cops and the people that run the town that this really isn't that far fetched of a scenario.

He attacked a cop in his own car after refusing lawful orders. He only stopped attacking the cop in the car when the gun went off, hitting him once in the arm. The cop's sole responsibility at that point is to subdue the suspect and keep him from hurting not only the officer, but the general public. It can be reasonably assumed that someone who would attack a cop is likely a violent individual who may go on to hurt others. The cop was doing his job. There is absolutely nothing to debate here. And I'm not comparing this to other OIS's because I don't know any details from any of the other ones. But in this particular case, the cop was 100% justified in how he handled the situation. You and everyone else keep focusing on the lack of a weapon as if that exonerates Michael Brown from every single thing he did wrong that led to his death.

I was rather impressed that they had the presence to not loot the black owned businesses. As I have said repeatedly to anyone that brought this up to me. The best move for that city was to indict him and have a trial. That way it doesn't smell like a cover up. They fucked that up, now they will burn.
