Either or really. I have two boots. One is a black pair with a pointy toe & skinny high heel. The other is a brown flat heel with button detail on the outside. Both were <$50 and are in serious need of a shoe hospital or just thrown out.

regarding winter workout attire, here's my semi-professional opinion:
lululemon: winner by a landslide. you can find great deals online in their "we made too much" section. with as much lulu stuff as I own, I've only paid full price for ONE item. they also make long pants and long torso tops - which is a rare find. not a fan of their sports bras though.
under armour: quality stuff, but they don't make things long enough for me. for a similar price, I'd rather buy lululemon. their sports bras are pretty awesome though.
target/old navy/etc: meh. it's cute and inexpensive, but function/quality wise they're inferior - everything I've owned has stretched out, pilled, or ripped (while I was teaching a class nonetheless ). I'd rather buy one pair of high quality/performance lululemon pants than have to buy new target/c9 pants once a month because they fell apart.
nike: this is my go-to brand if I can't afford lulu or if lulu doesn't make it. they have great deals at the outlets.
wal-mart: makes the best cotton sports bras. 3 pack for $9.99? oh yeah. I wear sports bras 24/7. I don't remember the last time I wore a real bra. the cotton ones are good for daily/non-exercise use.] 1/13/2012 12:12:38 PM |

I've had success with the fitted pants I got from Athleta (company that sells gap/oldnavy/bananarepublic)
my "relay capris" have held up really well and they have long tanks that work for my torso 1/13/2012 12:20:57 PM |

Diva, I'm still on the hunt for the perfect sports bra. I fucking hate sports bras they hurt they smash my girls and if they actually "fit" properly they don't offer near enough support. This is one of the reasons I quit running. A bloody & scabbed over clavicle isn't a cute look.
When I do workout my limiting factor is almost always the sports bra. Additionally, I can get so claustrophobic with the girls being smashed up that I literally have an anxiety attack and have to FDT from time to time.
I will let you know if I ever find the holy grail! I have spent a fortune looking.... 1/13/2012 1:38:25 PM |

Ditto to both of these + Lululemon
Fortunately, my bf has a Nike sponsorship, so I get massive Nike discounts. Otherwise, I'd say hit up the outlets or TJ Maxx for even better deals on Nike. You really can't beat their dry-fit material, and my Nike clothing has lasted forever. But you can spend a lot on it if you're not careful.
Also, Target has some REALLY cute reversible workout shorts on sale right now. I bought a couple of pairs last year and I LOVE them. Very durable and super cute: http://www.target.com/c/women-clothing-activewear-bottoms/-/N-5xtck#?lnk=Story_WMNL1_0101_HERO|HERO&intc=362056|null

I know. But I love my cupcake and kitty charms
i turned my nose up at the thought at first, but i kinda really like it now. i only have four charms. i like the bare look.
I really hated them when they first came out. My stepsisters were going nuts over them and I thought they were stupid ugly.
Mine will probably end up ugly, but each charm (except this odd glass one) is sentimental, and I plan on them all being that way.

i spent hours finishing this dress. it's way more complicated than it looks
i finally finished it today after having it cut out for over 6 months...
i'm posing in front of the curtains i made & i look a little rough (this was taken after 8 hours behind the sewing machine...)
it's a linen dress in a nice red (dare i say, nc state red) color
this is what the pattern envelope looks like
this is the first garment from a pattern i actually see myself wearing regularly.
sorry, just had to a little bit up in here 1/14/2012 10:24:05 PM |

so i found this online support group for people with sulfite allergies and one of the girls was telling me that i should look into switching out my shampoo/conditioner and body soap to something that is sulfite free since the body can absorb products with sulfites in it.
i just spent $40 on Dr Brommer's products. i got a shampoo, leave in conditioner, body wash, and chapstick. anyone else use these products before? i imagine they should come in the next couple of weeks, i'll have to report back.
oh and i also have to switch out all my spices because unless it's natural/non-preservative laced, the spice companies use declumping agents to keep the product from clumping which has sulfites in it 1/17/2012 2:39:24 PM |

I haven't used sulfite free shampoo, but I was considering switching. It's supposed to cut down on body dryness and shoulder acne as well. And your hair is supposed to look much more fabulous! Definitely let us know how well it works for you. 1/17/2012 2:42:05 PM |

I've been using a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for several months now. I like it because I don't use as much of it, so I don't mind paying extra for it, but I can't really tell much difference between it and regular old shampoo. But there's nothing special or problematic about my hair or skin. 1/17/2012 2:47:42 PM |
CassTheSass cupid 35382 Posts user info edit post |
thanks! i will have to report back.
right now i seem to be pretty okay with using my current products but a lot of the things that cause my allergy to flare are getting worse and sticking around a lot longer than normal which worries me. so i figure if i can slowly integrate the sulfite-free products now, it's easier than waking up one more with a severe reaction
i get a lot of head itchiness and dry hair and skin (which i shouldn't have with the 3+ liters of water i drink a day) which is a typical sign of the allergy on the skin so i'm interested to see how much difference it is when i remove the sulfites.
^ i'm not allergic to sulfates but i am allergic to sulfites which i learned are 2 separate things i've been using a sulfate free shampoo for a while now but it's like with any allergy - you're not going to notice a difference unless you're actually allergic or intolerant to it.

you can do makeup that's just as pretty in like 5 minutes or less
not saying my makeup looks glorious...but I can do it in like 3 minutes when I'm pressed for time and I just feel better about myself (totally mental)
I know we've had discussions about sephora...I am not a fan because they sucked at matching colors for me. You're pretty fair (and white) so you shouldn't have a problem. I've had the best luck by going to a nice department store counter where I know they've at least had lots o training by the brands and whatnot. 1/18/2012 3:08:58 PM |

Is there a particular brand that's best for your skin? Clinique tends to market itself as hypoallergenic, but I know that's probably just that ... marketing. 1/18/2012 3:22:17 PM |
Beethoven86 All American 3001 Posts user info edit post |
Any brand worth its stuff is hypoallergenic. That's not too much of a concern anymore. That said, Clinique is great, Lancome is great, I also use Powder FX for foundation, smashbox for eye makeup, and Tarte for mascara. 1/18/2012 3:24:42 PM |

^ I have pretty sensitive skin, and despite all of my searching is still my favorite. It doesn't "react" to my skin like other makeups ... which allows it to stay the same color. If you have ever had a weirdly tinted face (sorta pink), and its a little off color from the color you thought you bought, then you know what I am talking about. I still however use their tinted moisturizer, because heavy foundation never works well for me.
I will say that clinique's dramatically different lotion is the bomb for my skin. 1/18/2012 3:27:08 PM |
