^ if it's actually perforated the only thing you can do w/o seeing a doc is to protect it with something dry while you sleep/exercise to reduce possibility of infection

I guess I'm paranoid because I wear plugs when I sleep and I know that helps bacteria build up overnight anyway. Ear infection? Ain't nobody got time for that.

I am a super sensitive sleeper so without them I wake up a ton and can't fall back asleep I'm not sure if sanitizing them would do too much since I think ears are dirty enough on their own. But it also can't hurt.

Skwinkle, when my ear drum ruptured I used the disposable wax ear plugs and formed a seal around the outside of the ear canal instead of sticking them in the ear canal. I didn't have any issues but my perforation was tiny.

If it's ruptured, try to pop your ears and you'll hear/feel the air rising through the hole in your ear drum. That's what my doctor has me do to verify that I still have a perforation (1 year now). Do not use anything in your ear - drops, alcohol, nothing unless it's doctor prescribed. You do not have to wear ear plugs to shower. They've done studies and shower water doesn't cause problems. The problem comes from swimming in pools or rivers where there's plenty of bacteria.

^ That is what made me think it was ruptured. When I blow my nose, my left ear sounds like I put a mini noisemaker in there. I am not too worried, but my health issues always seem to come around when I'm traveling, which I will be next week.

Yeah, if it sounds like a noise maker then it's probably ruptured. As long as you don't have drainage and/or pain, you probably don't need to go to the doctor. Most heal on their own in a few months.
