Who needs a remote when you can use this fancy, lightweight controller?

it wont even vibrate, so you dont have to worry about it jumping out of your hand.

[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 4:37 PM. Reason : p.s. the reason it doesn't vibrate is: No games to make it vibrate]

Yeah, I think this is bad for the consumer. You think Sony movies are going to HD-DVD? It doesn't look like there will be a clear winner as soon as we thought. I love my Blu-Ray player and hate to think of the movies I was hoping to see on it that I won't be able to now. When I buy an HDTV and a great sound system, I'm not looking to save $200 or $300 for a slightly inferior product. I want the top product.

meh, so fewer studios will get my dollars

I don't buy a ton of movies...just the ones I know I'll watch over and over. Hell, most of my DVD collection is from the previously viewed rack at blockbuster when you could get 4 for 12 bucks or something retarded like that.

Blu-Ray moves I own? 5th Element, The Departed, Casino Royale, 300, Planet Earth, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang...that's it

None, Microsoft paid them a $150 million. If you read the press release, it's not like are even coming out and declaring HD-DVD the winner of the format war. All they said is that it's far from over and HD-DVD makes more sense for them financially (obviously, because of the gigantic payoff).

It seems like Microsoft is using Reagan cold war tactics to try to win this console war. Add this to the $50 Million GTA4 exclusive content and the $1 Billion dollar hit they took by rushing the system to market, it's like they could care less about turning a profit at all. I'm just curious how far they are willing to go.

hahahah where do these people come from

your tv is a piece of shit and so is your sound system

worry about them well before your hd-dvd player

Dude, where the hell did that come from? I have an HDTV and a kick-ass sound system. I'm making a point that anyone in my shoes that has already put $Texas into their entertainment system would rather go ahead and fork over the extra couple hundred of bucks and get the higher quality DVD system.

Anyone who spent that much on a home theater system wouldn't be using a video game console to play high definition movies.

Not to mention that the only "inferiority" is the capacity of the disc, which is pretty much a complete non-issue at this point and the forseeable future.

Stein, why would I not use my PS3 as my Blu-Ray player? There's no point in buying a separate player just to watch movies. And when I say "inferiority", I'm referring to the picture, not the capacity. I'm seen side-by-side comparisons of the same movies on the same TV model.

Look, form your own opinion on this but you can go to Circuit City and they usually have them next to each other right on the same TV, movie, etc.

I'm assuming that if the store sets up a display for the purposes of comparing the two formats, they're using the same settings. Who knows? Either way, it's unfortunate that, unless you get one of the dual-format players, you won't be able to see every movie coming out in HD on one single format.

i can assure you, your tv and sound system are the weak link

hell look at how many consumers are pleased with twc hd service. its horrible looking in comparison to any blu or hd dvd.

Are you guys that pathetic that you have to do shit like this? its a fucking VIDEO GAME CONSOLE.

1 week till Warhawk. Pumped to play with you dudes. We will need to setup a TWW server or something some night so we can school each other. Gonna be a fun game.

can someone quickly wrap up the pros & cons of the disc versus download for warhawk. i know it is scattered about on the last page, but some more insight is helpful

the disc comes with a bluetooth headset, and will come with a manual and some behind the scenes type of stuff. The downloadable is 20 bucks less and you can launch it straight from the PSN.

Disappointed though as it looks like PSM gave Warhawk a 6/10. Well I've actually played the game and think its awesome so I'm not too worried about reviews right now.

so here's some nes for those that actually are interested in bluray. Fox/MGM announced some Q4 releases for this year and I am very pleased as the movies I have been waiting to get released on bluray are finally coming out: The Die Hard Trilogy!

November 6 - 'Battle of Britain,' 'A Bridge Too Far'
November 13 - 'I, Robot'
December 4 - 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' 'Independence Day,' 'Cast Away,' 'Ronin'

Also in November (exact date TBA), Fox will release the previous installments in the Die Hard franchise, 'Die Hard,' 'Die Hard 2: Die Harder' and "Die Hard with a Vengeance.'"

PSN is completely free. Playing games and downloading stuff is all included.

Any blue tooth headset works with the Warhawk pretty much I believe. As long as it works with the PS3 you should be straight.

almost all bluetooth headsets work with the PS3. There might be an odd one out there that doesn't. I personally have a motorola h805 or 815? it's a POS but it works just fine.

To the guy asking about Lair: people aren't talking about it because it isn't out yet. 9/4

You're going to have a hard time convincing me that $150 million is big deal to a company with annual income in the billions.

Obviously, Paramount doubts that there's an existing and future market for Blu-Ray which will be worth more than $150 million to them over the term of their exclusivity.

I'd imagine that the HD Media market is still pretty small and that $150 mil COULD be more than all the releases on one format or the other would make over the course of a year (once production costs, distro costs, etc. are factored in)

^^The problem is, none of the facts agree with the decision, to the point that this move has been almost universally denounced by everyone who isn't a Blu-ray homer. Blu-ray has been consistently outselling HD DVD for the past 9 months. Blu-ray has more support from CE manufacturers. Blu-ray has more support from major retailers and rental stores. Even with this deal, Blu-ray still has more exclusive support from movie studios. Unless Dreamworks/Paramount has some magic crystal ball that show's a Blu-rayless future, you'd be hard pressed to show a good reason why they made this deal other than the payoff.

It's not like the movie studios in general are in good shape these days, Hollywood as a whole is hemorrhaging money. HD DVD is cheaper to produce than Blu-ray, and combined with the payoff, it seems like more of a short term financial decision than anything else.

I'm pretty sure this topic is about the PS3 and not a Bluray vs HD-DVD thread. Can we please take this somewhere else?

If you have some bluray news that's all well and good, but arguing on this type of shit I think belongs somewhere's else.

We're not talking about HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray, so much as we're talking about why a company would make a decision that impacts the user base of the PS3 in a negative way. It's certainly as relevant as you posting a list of upcoming Blu-Ray movies is.

And lets be honest, you've still got a week until the latest attempt to prove you didn't waste $500+ comes out, so you might as well let us talk about something in the meantime that isn't "man oh man, I can't wait until this game is released" or review angst.

^^ Why are you such an asshole?

I think that posting news about what's going to come out on bluray is related, but having a pissing contest on why Paramount made its decision and how HD DVD is better because of whatever. I'm just tired of all the fanboy bullshit in this thread. It doesn't happen in the other consoles threads, so why do you guys have to come in this thread shit in it? Seriosuly, create a new topic about bluray vs HD-DVD if you want to have a fight about it.

That's great. I'm still waiting though.

Look, I'm sorry you (and pretty much every PS3 owner in this thread not named Shrike) aren't smart enough to participate in a conversation that doesn't involve handfucking the F5 key waiting for a review of a game to come out so that you can call the reviewer a moron, but some people are capable of holding other conversations pertaining to the PS3 and dislike the disinformation that Robopimp is trying to pass off as fact.

Sorry if that rubs you the wrong way, ace.
