For as many sacks as we had, we Skinner sat in the pocket without moving and picked us apart a whole fucking lot. When you have a whole fucking minute to pick which wide open reciever with nobody within 20 yards of him you want to throw it to, it ain't too hard.

The problem is 1) our second string D-line is a huge drop from the 1st string and 2) We play too soft of a zone in terrible situations with no pass rush and 3) (and most importantly) our secondary sucks donkey balls.


There's your argument, idiot. And to note, I'm not saying the offense was great, but we were in position to win, and the shit play from our secondary was much more glaring in that game.

Saying that the "loss is on the offense, not the defense" doesn't imply that the defense did no wrong, just that the offense did more wrong. Outside of the special teams, I'd say this loss is on the offense as well. I still think the defense could play a lot better, the tackling is inexcusable, but the offense was just worse.

Our special teams suck point blank! Maybe we can hire beamer as a consultant to come fix it. TJ Graham takes forever to 1) actually field the kick he never catches it ready to run. 2) decide if he is actually going to run the ball or take a knee 3) find a lane and hit it. Our kickoff team just....sucks. Saturday was a TEAM loss. Everybody showed some kind of suck. The penalties remind me of the Amato days. It was obvious Wake wanted it more, hence the 4 miss tackles on the pass to Adams on the 3rd and 6 to seal the game. We better not take Duke likely or we will be sitting 0-2 in the ACC with Fl State.

Special Teams: Wake got the ball on average at the 45, us at the 27. TJ dropped a kick nearly a disaster.

Defense: Great sacks and INTs....horrible coverage on screen passes, 3rd and Raleighs...

Yes the defense gave up big plays it shouldn't have/could have prevented. But if you continutally put your D on the field with shitty position and 10 minutes longer than the other defense is out there, youre going to pay for it.

I am concerned both about the penalties and the shitty special teams play. I fully expect the offense to be back on track, but we haven't shown any penalty/ST improvement against real opponents.

BD, as funny as your post was, Lokken IMHO is dead on right here. State's offense really wasn't all that good at Wake. The rushing attack was anemic (only 63 yards when you subtract Wilson's scrambles), Wilson completed less than 50% of his passes, and we had 3 turnovers. You can't do that on the road and expect to win.

But what really killed us was yhe combination of short drives, bad punts, and piss poor kick-off coverage. Aside from the 1st quarter, just look at Wake's starting field position:

Field position has plagued us all year and I really don't see that changing unless there's some changes in personnel, esp. on kickoffs. I don't understand why you don't have your best athletes out there to begin with.

As for our secondary, it's a combination of blown assignments (being young and inexperienced) and coaching. I'd like to see us be a little more aggressive, but you can tell the coaches are playing a numbers game. They'd rather make a team drive down the field instead of giving up one big play. Of course, turnovers and shitty punts/punt coverage doesn't help either.

If the team that showed up against Wake shows up against Duke, we're gonna lose. I hope they can find the right combinations to make things work on the field.

TOB already said they're putting more starters on special teams. He said they tried pulling most of the starters off and it worked against the FCS schools and it didn't against Pitt and Wake so they're changing up personnel on special teams.
