hopefully he realizes after that game that he could use another seasons to improve some weaknesses and get stronger.
i wonder if he'll drop back out of the first round in the mock drafts after that game? he had 18 points, but showed that he still has trouble against bigger, taller guys, which is all he'll see in the NBA (7/16 shooting). 3/24/2012 11:27:45 AM |

Maybe but he cares more about putting himself in the best position to make the most money.
If by some miracle he is projected as a lottery pick, I hope he bolts so fast he leaves a cloud of dust. I hope if he is a low first round or high second round pick that he stays and improves on what he needs to in order to be a lottery pick. It's not about NC State, it's about him doing what he has to do to have a secure future.3/24/2012 1:58:13 PM |

I hope he stays but I don't think last night showed that at all. Kansas' entire defensive strategy was to collapse and have other guys give help defense on the interior. When he was one on one agaisnt either Robinson or Withey, he scored. In the NBA he will have much better people around him (obviously) and defenses will not key on him.3/24/2012 2:55:17 PM |

Holy shit i didnt realize the NCAA changed the rules so drastically. They really don't give a fuck about the athletes, these rules SCREW THEM.
The early entry withdrawal deadline is now April 10th.
So theres no more of this dont get an agent, go to draft camps, decide to return for junior season.
I think this may hurt our chances of retaining him, because he wont get as good of feedback. But i guess it could also help since he won't be playing in a bunch of camps and eating the inferior college athletes.
Quote : | "April 3: NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee Application Deadline April 6: NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee Response Deadline April 10: NCAA Early Entry “Withdrawal” Deadline April 29: NBA Draft Early Entry Eligibility Deadline (11:59 pm ET) May 3 or May 4: NBA Draft Early Entry Candidates Released May 30: NBA Draft Lottery June 6-8: NBA Combine/Pre-Draft Camp (Chicago) June 18: NBA Draft Early Entry Withdrawal Deadline (5:00 pm ET) June 28: 2012 NBA Draft " |
So basically if CJ Leslie declares now, he must remove his name by April 10th. However, he could wait until April 29th to declare at all. Weird.
Quote : | " Since the NCAA bars third parties (even family members) of college players from reaching out to NBA teams to discuss their draft stock and the NBA itself has strict no-contact rules regarding the way teams can communicate with players who are not officially draft-eligible (before the early-entry list is released in early May), the only way an underclassman can gather information about his draft stock is through his college head coach. Furthermore, the head coach is only allowed to talk with the principal basketball operations executive from each team (ie: the general manager), according to NBA rules, and the underclassman may not participate in or be present during any such conversation.
To help with this process, the NBA is again offering underclassmen the ability to get actual feedback from a group of executives representing 20 NBA teams selected by the League Office, and chaired by NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson, called the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee. But you're not coming back. You're going in the draft. Who cares if you can't go back?
The NBA deadline is the only one that matters. If you tell the NCAA you're withdrawing and then decide to go anyway, the NCAA has no power over you, so any sanctions against you are irrelevant.
Ex: Jesse Boulerice was suspended for one year from major junior hockey for slashing another player in the face. The suspension didn't matter, because he moved up to the AHL the next season anyway.3/25/2012 5:25:08 PM |

Last year Reggie Johnson of the Miami Hurricanes declared for the draft to test the waters but did not sign with an agent.
He later was allowed to returned to Miami.
This is what he's talking about.

I understand how the system works.
I'm saying there's a third option beyond go/stay on April 10th.
1. You put your name in for the draft, but decide by the NCAA deadline that there's not enough interest. You withdraw your name and return to college.
2. You put your name in for the draft, and are satisfied with the interest. You do not contact the NCAA on their deadline, and you go to the NBA.
3. You put your name in for the draft, and are unsure of what to do on the NCAA deadline. You declare you're withdrawing then, even though it's 19 days before the NBA deadline. If you decide to return to college, you've followed NCAA procedure and can return. If you decide somewhere between the NCAA and NBA deadlines that you ARE going to go to the NBA, what the hell is the NCAA going to do to you? They can ban you from college all they want, but you were going to go anyway.
My point is that having a different deadline to tell college you're returning is irrelevant, because there are no consequences for lying about it. 3/25/2012 6:06:14 PM |
justinh524 Sprots Talk Mod 27837 Posts user info edit post |
Sure you could do that, but you better not be talking to scouts/gms/etc. after that deadline or the NCAA won't look to kindly on that if you decide to return to school. 3/25/2012 6:23:45 PM |

No.
The early period is the new NCAA deadline. Once that date passes you cannot be in the NBA discussion or risk getting tossed by the NCAA.
it was done to alleviate coaches with players and recruits waiting and waiting and waiting for the NBA deadline and not knowing what they were going to do. 3/25/2012 6:39:51 PM |

Gott was on mark and mike this a.m., and spoke a little bit about Leslie.
Said it's a decision he and his family have to make, and the staff and team will be 100% supportive of his decision. He added that he felt Leslie has nowhere near reached his potential and would gain a lot with another year, and then spoke again about how Leslie has to make the decision that's best for him. (IOW, he didn't come off as desperate for him to stay even if what i typed out might seem that way).
Also said that Leslie was extremely torn about the decision. That, to me, is better news than I'd expected. If he's torn, I think there's a good chance he stays, or at most does the 'test the waters' thing. 3/29/2012 9:46:50 AM |
Bullet All American 28414 Posts user info edit post |
I don't like hearing that he is "torn". I was hoping that he was thinking that staying and becoming a lottery pick next year (after picking up an ACC POY, or at least 1st team all-ACC) would be the obvious choice. 3/29/2012 9:50:19 AM |
Beethoven All American 4080 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think it's close to the "obvious choice" for someone who has seen all too well how easy it is for a player to get hurt if he stays.
I'm glad Gott seems to be taking the stance he is. I think if he begged Leslie to stay, it may just signal to Leslie that he's better than he really is, and if he's that good, he's going to be a star in the NBA. By Gott stepping back and saying, "you need to develop more, but it's your choice", it should tell Leslie that he's speaking the truth, and not just tearing him down to get him to feel like he has to stay.
That paragraph was far more convoluted and rambling than I intended. 3/29/2012 9:54:25 AM |
