This show is so good.

I wish there was some way HBO would do The Dark Tower series. The epic would be endless.

very solid episode. I kind of wish they would have kept the prologue idea going before the title sequence for the season premier like they did for the first season since George Martin has kept it up in the books but that is just a very, very minor complaint.

"According to reports, the studio was unable to come to terms with producer Ron Howard.[21] Despite this, Stephen King remains confident Howard will see the project through with another studio, and Howard confirmed the adaptation is still on track, noting that HBO will now carry the television series portion of the project. [22][23] On March 13th 2012 it was reported that Warner Bros are now interested in making at least the first film, and would be in prime position to green-light the TV element through its sister company, HBO. Javier Bardem, tipped to play Roland Deschain, is reportedly still on board. Reports indicate filming may commence as early as the first quarter of 2013. [24]"

Basicall its supposed to be both film and TV show combined I think I read.

For the casual observer, the first episode was boring.

There are to many threads to follow all at once. This cant really be helped and may work itself out. Its going to need some time to ramp up.

^^ if it seems confusing then I suggest watching the "Making Game of Thrones" video: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007BVNW10

it explains the world and gives some backstory

I had no idea HBO was involved; I thought it was a network company doing it.

I am 1000% more excited now.

Also, link?

The episode fit right in with the rest of the series after watching most of the marathon on Sunday. Of course there's a lot of story, there's 500 fucking characters.

talked to at least 3 people already at work who I know from last season are watching the series without having ever read the books and all 3 of them really enjoyed the first episode. Boring was definitely not mentioned. As stated earlier, I really enjoyed the episode. They glossed over a few things but obviously they can't cover it all. Also, Grey Wind looked much better than I expected him to.

I'm just waiting for the rating numbers of the premier and hopefully for HBO to green light a 3rd + 4th season

There sure are a shit ton of characters but I really enjoyed the episode (especially the wolves!). The only weak scenes were the ones with Stanus + that witch lady.

I enjoyed it, didn't think it was boring at all. I actually don't understand that at all... there was killing, sex, bastard murdering, wolves being awesome, the boy king being a prick and being slapped like he deserves, a power push from little finger (only to be reminded how quickly and easily he could be taken care of), glimpses of the dragons, this new lady who was not harmed by the poison, etc.

It was meant to get us caught up on where everyone is since the last episode while setting things up for the rest of the season, which it did perfectly well. I thought it was very in line with a lot of the s1 episodes as far as action vs story or dialogue.

Refresh me why the call him Littlefinger; I'd look it up but risk spoiling 10 other things.

Tiny package? "Finger" to the King's "Hand"? Something else entirely?

He is from The Fingers. I can't remember if the little comes from him being little when he was younger or the fact that his father was a very minor lord of a small plot of land in The Fingers.

"He may be Lord Baelish, but he is more commonly known as Littlefinger, a nickname given to him by Edmure Tully in one of that gentleman’s rare moments of wit. The Baelish family holdings have always been modest in the extreme, based on the smallest of the Fingers. To add to the jest, when Petyr was young he was slight and small of build. Though silver streaks now line his hair, the man never really outgrew the boy. Littlefinger he was, and Littlefinger he remains."

I personally thought the Cersei / Littlefinger scene was one of the weaker ones of the episode. Completely out of character for Littlefinger, but they kind of altered his character that way last season already so I didn't worry about it too much. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things anyway.
