Gottlieb will be back on Swaim's show on Wednesday and Swaim said he's going to ask him again about NC State/Sean Miller. The other name he heard associated with NC State's opening is Rick Barnes. Fuck PackPride and the fools that eat that shit up. Have they ever been clued in about...anything? I mean yeah, tracking planes and shit, big fucking deal. I've heard so many rumors that I know originated out of PP that I just tune that shit out. Butch Davis was supposedly "fired" after the 4th or 5th game based on a guy that knows some guy in the Rams Club...it was virtually a done deal. That was the most recent "slam dunk" that just wasn't even close.

it doesn't say that they talked before the tournament/during the season (unless of course you're talking about a quote from the AD I am unaware of).

ETA: I don't read much into the AD's tweet. It's odd to me that he feels the need to comment on this while his team is in the NCAAT...and if Sean Miller is considering another job while his season is still in progress, why would he tell his AD?
On the other hand, I don't read too much into the post from PP either...By all accounts, Barnes and Calipari were interested last time. But they didn't come...so we'll see

Arizona is a better job than State with no qualifications. Miller has other things in his past that make it a closer comparison than others, so I'm not saying it's impossible.

Barnes has other reasons why he might be interested this time around other than the 'from nc' crap. I doubt we'll go this route, though.

Not sure even Thompson returning would have an effect.

Supposedly, his wife has some sort of condition that Duke Hospital offers the best treatment in the US. She's also supposedly been flying to Duke like once a month or a few times a month for treatment. Not sure if it's a curable thing or if this will continue indefinitely, but that's one reason why many feel he's still a legit possibility. You also would wonder if he wouldn't take a year off from coaching if this were true and how involved he'd be with the rigors of Tobacco road.

With that said, I don't think I want someone that takes our job out of necessity. I want someone who wants the job for what it is. I think we'll aim younger too

Miller is my #1 of any reasonable candidate...but (and I don't really believe that an offer has been made to Barnes) would we really make the offer before his season was over? I know we would probably contact him, or vice versa, to gauge his interest but wouldn't it be odd to make an offer right now?

FWIW, if Barnes wants to come here then I'd be very happy.

The only way Barnes would be a bad hire is if we offered him before Miller.

If Miller even considered coming and we offered Barnes, I'd be incredibly dissapointed. Barnes is a very good coach. Miller is a much younger and equally good/promising coach

FWIW, I am starting to believe we have a legitimate chance with Miller...however small it may be. Thus the offer to Barnes makes absolutely zero sense right now. I highly doubt it's true.

Plus, the guy that posted that on SFN also posts on Packpride...he's never been considered one of those with 'connections' to my knowledge

I want a proven winner or an up and comer and Dixon is neither. I'd rather be a 7 or 8 seed every year and make the sweet 16 than get a top 3 seed every year and lose in the first two rounds consistently.

Yeah, Dixon is just a slightly better version of Herb. It would be nice right now to see results like Pitt has, but the best thing for State would be to hire someone who can not only reach the tournament, but regularly make deep runs. Dixon has proven he can't do that.

ESPN Insider article a couple days ago has Andy Katz saying that he doesn't think we will get any of the big name coaches we are after (Barnes, Miller, Brey, Stallings, Howland, Turgeon) but thinks we will get either Chris Mooney or Gregg Marshall.
