It does not matter, UNC is going to still be a power. The name is entrenched now.

Duke, on the other hand, may not. None of K's assistants have done anything close to him.

I know I wouldn't be scared of Dawkins, Brey, Snyder, Collins, etc. turning them into what K has.

Our freshmen are not just "bonus" by any stretch of the imagination. They are likely our 5th starter, 6th + 7th man. They need to be able to play basketball if we are going to compete for the ACC.

Duke, UNC, and FSU were all significantly better than us last season if you've forgotten. They've lost a few guys but so have we. There's no guarantee Lorenzo breaks out this year. There's no guarantee Howell has a monster senior year. There's no guarantee wood doesn't slump like hundreds of seniors have done before him.

Our team is all based on potential. Just because we had one good ncaa tourney game last year doesn't mean we were a legit top 25 team last season. We still need to count on quite a bit of improvement from our core guys and productive freshmen.

Being a mcdonalds all American doesn't mean shit. We didn't get the next kobe, Lebron, and durant. We mighthave levi, scooter, and Harrow for all we know.

Ol SF, come trolling along.

First, it was closer to 13, second, he averaged 15pt over his last twelve games. Brown was rolling the 2nd half of the season.

I think we just have different definitions for role players. My definition is simply they are not the star go-to players, they have a job and must play within themselves and the system. Which is all we need them to do to be successful. You seem to think role player means mop up duty.

Quote :

Then I think your argument needs to be that our senior leaders need to be the stars if we are going to be a good team. Not the kids who have never even had a college practice have to be stars.

Draconian mindset. Seniors are the stars for teams like Wichita State and IUPUI. When your seniors are your best players in the ACC, you're usually a mediocre team at best.

And for folks saying Brown has arrived...please. When you have to pull out your abacus to argue his scoring average to decimal point, its obvious he still has a lot of room to grow.

Of course he has a lot of room to grow (and the potential to make that growth)

But he broke out last year

That's the discussion

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Zeller win ACC player of the year. I also remember Florida State winning the ACC with a senior heavy team.

CJ Williams had a break out season last year by averaging 10+ points a game...while never averaging more than 5 in the previous three seasons.

Tracy Smith had a break out sophomore season when he jumped from 3 pts a game to scoring double digits in only 18 minutes a game.

Lorenzo Brown has steadily improved throughout his two years at NC State. He can't "break out" unless he's going to drop 30 and 10 next year...which isn't going to happen. At the end of the year, many considering him the 2nd best point guard in the ACC (some said he was the best). How do you "break out" after that?

Depth was a big problem, but I think everyone is forgetting how horrible we were guarding the perimeter. It improved late in the year, but we were flat out awful guarding the 3

A player 'breaks out' if he raise his points from 12-18. If he averages 18-6-7 next year with improved defense and leadership, he's likely a lottery pick. Thats the definition of breaking out. jbrick likely won't feel RA Dickey has broken out until he's thrown back to back to back perfect games.

Lorenzo Brown's NCAA Tournament averages:

39 minutes
14.5 poitns
7.5 assists
7.5 rebounds
1.5 steals
0.5 blocks

that's pretty damn good, right?

Yes, but I could make anyone look good with a three game sample size. Point is, Brown is good, but we need him to be great.

Normally Slave knows when he's wrong.

This is the first time I've seen him hammer away on something after he's already been shut down. Something's happening...

RA Dickey's career previous to this year would be akin to Trevor Ferguson's collegiate career. Not even a funny off-the-wall analogy (well kinda...he actually pitched well the last two years...but he was playing for the shitty Mets).

Brown was one of the best point guards in the ACC last year and crushed it in the NCAA tourney. You can't "break out" after that unless you have a Kevin Durant/Michael Beasley type of year.

I actually can't believe I'm resorting to such guerilla tactics to win a fight on the internet, but when the evidence is right in front of you, its hard not to use it.

Quote :

So going from 9 points a game to 12 points a game is breaking out.

Quote :
"Lorenzo Brown has steadily improved throughout his two years at NC State. He can't "break out" unless he's going to drop 30 and 10 next year...which isn't going to happen."

Now he has to go from 12 to 30.

No further questions, your honor.

You're being thick. You can't "break out" when you're already really good unless you go megastar level. I forgot that he almost averaged 10 a game his freshmen year...so really, the only "breaking out" he even had last year was that more people noticed that he was good. The guy came in as a freshmen and produced and played well. He played even better his sophomore year, and will probably do the same thing his junior year. Him averaging 18 and 7 won't be a "break out."

Not all players break out. Some are just good and continue to prove with experience. Give it up stumpy.

I thought I could let this go. The closer I get to 30, the more I realize that arguing on the internet is just so stupid…but, try as I might, I just can’t let my arch rival think he got the best of me. I just sat thru a meeting in which I should have been paying close attention, considering the ramifications could significantly alter my career path in one way or the other, but all I could think about was Goddammit, that jbrick...

You clearly state Lorenzo broke out last year. That statement represents the entirety of your post at 2:21 this afternoon. There can be no confusion as to what you meant by this. You’re stating that Lorenzo had his break out season last year, and thus couldn’t further break out in 2013. We’ll come back to this.

I retort twelve minutes later. Six minutes after that, you get so granular with your response that its almost embarrassing. He averaged 12.7 points last year. Your entire argument is based around two tenths of a point. Your second comment, that he averaged 15 ppg down the stretch, basically asks me admit that the one extra basket he got in those games compared to his season averages makes him a markedly better player. It’s the infamous Harrison Barnes graphic in text form.

Our next two posts don’t directly conflict with one another, so I’ll leave them be. But at 3:10, you put on your Skip Bayless hat. Not only do you directly contradict your earlier statement that Lorenzo broke out this past season, but you further dig yourself in a hole by now claiming he won’t truly break out until he does something no one in the country did last year. I know there’s something to be said for hyperbole, but no, you don’t get that privilege when you’re that far off base.

Your 3:25 and 3:39 posts are such exercises in banality that I’ll only cite them to further illustrate how misguided your argument is. The only part that matters from either of those posts is “I forgot”. You forgot how Brown played as a freshman, which led to your post saying he broke out as a sophomore, which led to your post saying he really didn’t break out and probably never will. You forgot how important facts are to an argument, so you offer a mea culpa of sorts that doesn’t resonate.

I’m embarrassed to care this much about something that means less than nothing. You’ve already won for me wasting ten minutes of my life typing this out. All I can really hope to get out of this is your smug face out of my head. Fuck you. Fuck me.
