Im watching the ESPN spot. The next question I have. When does Roy resign?

McCants:

"We all would load up in a car and go to the Tutor's house."

Who's we all? I mean seriously.

Best part about the 2 UNC employees on ESPN right now is that McCants can't read any of the books on the shelves behind them.

^McCants was actually fairly intelligent in high school...probably a lot smarter than Cat Barber or CJ Leslie. Other than Deunta Williams, he's probably the most literate former player that's spoken out against UNC.

He obviously can't handle a normal UNC student's course load...but he can read. He's also batshit crazy...so he has that working against him.

Adam and joe are gonna talk to that Bethel hack on the radio coming up.

https://twitter.com/BethelLearning

Methinks UNC shouldn't have an academic support staff member who seems to be eager to put his opinions out into the ether. Isn't that a FERPA violation

I could see that. More in reference to the whole 'McCant Read' signs from back when he played at visiting arenas.

I stopped caring about this UNC thing over a year ago. Still don't think anything will happen to Carolina, but my god this is incredible.

Cunningham saying he hopes to talk to McCants about continuing his education at UNC in the future. Why not just announce the hush money payments.

Seems legit

Great article:
Quote :
"If you're going to stand before a judge and explain that academics are part of the reason schools can't share a slice of an ever-expanding financial pie with the players that people pay to watch, then you'd better have a stellar record of standing up for academic integrity. The NCAA can't say much there. It found a rogue tutor at North Carolina while missing a fraudulent department. Other than that case, the last FBS school to get popped for academic fraud was Florida State in 2009. Nearly every other case the NCAA has pursued in the financially flush upper reaches of the FBS has been about money. Specifically, they've been about the players getting some.

Look man, those classes were open to ALL UNC students. Everyone got an A or a B in those classes.

Honestly, my favorite counter argument to this is the whole, "well look at all these guys who did go to class and had a great educational experience!"

Reminds me of the Chris Rock "Nigga you're supposed to take care of your kids!" You don't get credit for the stuff you're supposed to do nor does that make what they said untrue.

The former players on Mccants' team came out with a collective statement saying that they all went to class and supported academic integrity blah blah blah. It sounded good coming from all 15 of them.

That's nice, but it only takes one to make it not count, just ask Michigan about those final four banners they had to take down because of CWebb.

The issue is the NCAA does not have the manpower and resources to investigate internal academics issues unless they get a lead. The African American Studies department of UNC-Chapel Hill is not inside their responsibility, it's inside UNC-Chapel Hill's responsibility, but that's like a fox guarding a henhouse if Chapel Hill finds a couple academics that can be corrupted. Only reason they found out about the tutor was a couple players very publicly went to a party in Miami. And this spawned out of that.

If we lived in a just world with consequences for people's misdeeds, which we don't, Chapel Hill's African American Studies department would have its accreditation pulled or at least under heavy scrutiny in addition to Nyang'oro's legal issues, but the accreditation agency are not in the business of making waves. As long as college sports make money, it's going to be in the interest of schools to look the other way and skirt corners.

Yep. Sean May said he even had to write a 25-page paper for one of them... Hey, Sean, let's put all of this to rest; how about you show us that paper you wrote?

Picked out this gem:
Quote :
"(Meanwhile, in the aftermath of his report into the phony classes, former Gov. Jim Martin had this to say: “My opinion was basketball players wouldn’t tell us anything we didn’t know from other sources.” Whoops.)"

In other words, he didn't even bother to ask the basketball players anything. I wonder why.

The NCAA las laid its cards on the table. UNC's academic issues are an "internal" issue according to them, and thats the sole reason why they refuse to intervene.

I think if they were to punish UNC, it could open a can of worms where UNC could lawyer up, and allege(and maybe prove) similar things happen at other Univs( for eg: Kansas, or Kentucky)

I'd say it's going to be a high bar to prove that there exists an entire fake academic department at Kansas and Kentucky where players just plain don't have classes. Maybe they exist, but I would be surprised
