^Well Mexico was the team that I didn't want to win, so it is pretty much the same. It would have sucked. They already won a U-17 World Cup and the Olympics. The U-20 World Cup and World Cup are the only two trophies they haven't recently won.

No, USA vs Mexico has had its heated moments and is a rivalry. USA vs Ghana is more like NC State vs Virginia. We don't really hate each other, but they always beat us in key moments when we need a win. When Hodge played at NC State we got our first win at Virginia since sometime in the late 80s, or early 90s. Then there was the year we were favored to win the ACC in football and they were a part of a 3 game losing streak that caused us to tie for 4th in the ACC. And just last season they beat the crap out of us on our home court and we became the last team in the NCAA Tournament. If we had won that game we wouldn't have been sweating on selection Sunday. On top of that we have had a few moments where beating Virginia was very key in advancing to the tournament, or a bowl game.

^Yeah, but from a basketball/football point of view they are one of those ok teams that usually likes to fight it out with us for the last tournament spot, or a bowl game. Both teams have beat each other at some pretty key moments during the season in the past too.

Look, the United States is perceived by the rest of the world as an entitled military empire. We're not underdogs at anything politically, so our relative soccer inferiority isn't endearing to other nations.

We are rivals with Mexico because they are our main hurdle to the Gold Cup. The rest of this debate is pretty much a pointless exercise.
