Yeah...it's hard not to be kinda nihilistic if America chooses Trump. Like..."fuck it, I tried. I've done my best for America for my whole adult life...but at this point, whatever. If it works out, it's despite ourselves. If not, well, we did it to ourselves in a context where any idiot should have known better. Whatever happens, happens."

Maybe we luck out despite our best efforts to completely fuck the dog here. Maybe the structural safeguards work and we ride this out with only modest damage like we did last time.

...but if the worst possibilities happen...well...I hope at least I'm unscathed financially after the remission of American or even Western hegemony.

Passports to where? Europe post Brexit and post-NATO and post-Russia steamrolling Ukraine? Canada's cold, I hope it doesn't come to that. My point is that if we really do manage to wreck the America-car, that isn't gonna happen in a vacuum. It might not be as simple as just cashing out your stocks and moving to somewhere that looks nice as of right now.

What safeguards? He's got both houses with sycophants in the majority. The Supreme Court won't do anything to stop him. And he'll remove every person from the executive branch agencirs who don't lick his balls on day one. We roughed out the last time because he picked a few people in key places who had actual character. That won't happen again.

Quote :
"If the election outcome is as I expected, it should cause the large minority of the country who supported @KamalaHarris and predicted her victory to begin to question their sources of truth.

Half the country has believed that
@X is filled with mis- and disinformation, and that they could only therefore rely on The NY Times, MSNBC, CNN and other mainstream media for their news. And they did.

If, however, you have been active on @X for the last year, you have known the truth days, weeks and often months before the facts appear in the MSM.

The MSM excerpted, clipped and cut to defame @realDonaldTrump while claiming that @JoeBiden was fit as a fiddle. Then when Biden’s polls collapsed, @KamalaHarris was anointed the candidate and her hagiography was written with glowing acclaim from the press. But this could not hold as she ducked the media and held fast to the teleprompter.

Citizen journalists with their phone cameras in hand captured the real Kamala forcing her to defend herrecord and her plans in more media appearances. It did not go well and the public demanded to learn more so @KamalaHarris had to risk more unscripted media.

The doom loop was underway with perhaps 60 Minutes as one of the more dramatic examples, even after CBS tried to save her, most glaringly by excerpting one answer to replace a word salad response to another. But the citizen journalists on @X quickly caught and outed this fraud and demanded a transcript.

As many who supported Kamala began to realize that they have been misled, they became open to Trump as an alternative, but they didn’t want to rely on the media to understand him because they did not want to be misled again.

They wanted to hear the candidate in his own words and that is where @lexfridman and @joeroganhq long form podcasts came to the rescue. When Kamala was offered the same opportunities to explain herself, she rejected them. And the voting public could only draw a negative inference.

When the story of this election is written, I expect it will be as much about how half of America woke up to the reality that they have been manipulated by the media. This should lead to an abandonment by many of the MSM as their primary source of information. It will push more people to @X, to podcasts and other empirical sources, and it will lead to a more informed public.

The other outcome I hope happens is the implosion of the Democratic Party. The Party lied to the American people about the cognitive health and fitness of the president. It prevented, threatened, litigated and otherwise eliminated the ability of other candidates for the primary to compete, to get on ballots, and to even participate in a debate. The Party and the administration used lawfare in an attempt to imprison, bankrupt or otherwise kill off Trump as a candidate. These acts are collectively grave threats to our democracy. With the highest irony in order to hide these acts, the Party accused the opposition candidate of being the grave threat to democracy.

The Democratic Party proved itself to be fundamentally undemocratic. It needs a complete reboot. The leadership should be thrown out and those responsible should apologize to the American people.

Honest Abe said it best:

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."

Pretty 2012 take. I started investigating why I was so wrong in 2016. Maybe if you start now you can be ready in 2028.

By qualified, did you mean someone who couldn't even get a vote in the 2020 primary against Biden?

Assuming you live in NC and had working parents it's probable they worked in or are aware of furniture and textiles. Those were hallowed out through the 90s and early 2000s where most garments and furniture comes from Asia or Mexico now. Gone are the days a guy with no high school degree getting a job making $16/hr (adjusted for inflation like $35/hour).

Around the same time in the 90s, the pharma industry started flooding opiates that were only addictive to 1% of the population according to the media. This went on for about a decade. Meanwhile some enterprising Mexicans realized you could grow heroin in Xalisco, Mexico. They setup small shops, similar to franchises starting in San Fernando valley, avoiding cartel and gang areas. By 2005 they were in NC. The guys unable to find work could now entertain themselves on heroin and opiates sold by the media and pharma industry.

Maybe it's just my environment but my NC hometown has tons of out of work people, addiction deaths, and just hopelessness. My mom died of opiate overdose in 2005 and my class in 1998 has about a dozen kids out of 250 that graduated who died of heroin overdoses. My dad and step mom have friends who worked in textiles and furniture unable to find work and with kids that have addiction issues.

Trump spoke directly to those people and gave some of the issues life. Things have shifted since 2016, but he was obviously the first candidate to speak to those people and those issues are the starting point to understanding why he won. I didn't vote for him in 2016, but I got the attraction. Calling them fascists or morons and you'll never understand the meat of it. The media calling him racist for saying, "drugs come from mexico" when 100,000 Americans are dying of overdoses a year. Maybe they do need a firing squad.

If I had to pick one reason why I voted for him in 2024. Vance dealt with family addiction and understands the above issues.

You’re stupid if you think trump was the first candidate to speak to those people. He uses populist rhetoric to say he has magical solutions and the demographic that didn’t pay attention in school when demagoguery was discussed fell for it.

I’m comfortable just calling trump supporters stupid because i personally know many of them. 1 guy believes in weather machines, dolphin assisted birth (look that one up), and Illuminati hiding the secret to curing cancer. Most other trump supporters are just racist (a la Elon musk). The other sliver are spineless people that listen to their racist parents.

You have obvious idiots like Joe Rogan in pop culture. There’s not a single person who supports trump, and is otherwise widely regarded as intelligent, cogent, and a credible believer in the idea of American democracy.

Just because trump eeked out this victory doesn’t mean all these morons and racists see some deeper truth. Lots of systems and societies in history have been eroded or collapsed because they got overrun by fools (Russia actually being a great example).

Clinton and Bush certainly didn't care and Obama's solution was pretend everyone can get into a good school if they just studied hard enough. Who was it that spoke to them?

If you read the first book I posted you'll see one of the big failures of Democratic party is using lack of educational status as a moral failing. That allows lawyers and engineers that make $500k+ to have a clean conscious about the plight of the poor and disadvantaged. A single mother with a 90 IQ who can't use multifunction remote should just learn to code! That the woke stuff creeped in and further painted them as racist was just icing on the cake that allows anyone with status to get all the spoils.

There will be a lot of objective study on what went wrong in this election

But I get the feeling that the messaging of the Democrats wasn't right. Voters and the people at-large don't match the whole "we're just inherently better" kind of messaging that just dismissed Trump, not that they weren't morally right in acting like that. The Democrats made it feel like they were just meant to win, and it felt like people were being taken in granted... maybe the lack of a primary? Who knows, them not "earning it" from the ground up maybe just didn't push them in enough to the psyche of the average voter.

The campaign also feeling somewhat manufactured, which is kind of unavoidable when you come in this late, but being shoehorned in everywhere with everything telling you that this is meant to be... It just felt holier than thou even if it wasn't. Americans don't really like being told what is good and what isn't for them, they want to feel like they have a choice. And again you can't fault the Democrats for saying "we CANNOT have Trump", but that's the paradox there I guess for turnout

Also, Democrats ran this race as it they weren't the incumbents, which well... is kind of naturally so. But, I think that's also where the messaging was lost on people, it became a bunch of platitudes, we'll do this or that, Trump was bad or that... but Trump wasn't the incumbent. Sure the Democrats were objectively justified in saying so, but it wasn't what would compute given the status right now
so set to progress forward you lose sight of the present

Maybe valid if PA was the only supposed swing state the ticket lost, and by a slim margin. I can't see how it would have made up the differences observed.

And you could argue at least he isn't tainted by the loss of this ticket if looking toward future aspirations for higher office.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-elections/exit-polls?amp=1

We’ve got some exit polls

The only racial demographic that majority supported trump was white people, but a decent percent of Hispanics went trump. Probably why trump shifted his attacks to Haitian and Africans, probably focus grouped that change.

White women and Latino men majority voted trump.

Older millennials and genx were the most pro-trump group. People over 65 were 50% Harris.

As expected the less education you had the more pro trump. People with only a high school degree loved them some trump.

There was not significant amounts of crossover voting. It’s looking like trump brought a lot of white voters out of the woodworks— anecdotally I know a handful of white people who rarely or never vote who came out for trump— uneducated white males and females.

Perhaps the strangest thing to me is the only income bracket clearly pro trump is $30-50k household income. Poor people and richer people were more pro Harris.

^ It's almost as if people didn't like her... if only we had known that 5 years ago when she dropped out before the primary started in earnest... nobody has been saying that, though... much less anyone around here.

as for where to put the blame...
1) Biden. He should have gotten the fuck out and let the Dems have an actual Primary
2) The Dems and their proxies, for thinking they could be as crazy as they wanted and folks would accept their garbage as long as the alternative was Trump
3) Our schools. For utterly failing to teach any amount of civics education that would help people accurately spot a fascist who wasn't even trying to hide it, failing to teach what a VP and Pres can actually do, and failing to teach them the most basic shit about how taxes work.

We are in for a world of shit.
