I feel like I'm in some sort of friend purgatory. All my friends, single or otherwise, have moved away. Not one is left in town. They are good friends and I love them but I would love to have some close friends. But I have no idea how to make new friends. Maybe after the baby is born I can find other parents or something but right now im just pregnant and working my ass off to save enough money so that I can possibly be out of work for a year. And in January my only line of socialization outside of my marriage will be cut off when my job ends. Ugh. /hormonalbullshit

Friendship is a revolving door in all stages of life. It's just a fact of life. I've also grown untrustworthy of people who are not family and the so called friends. It is especially true among women. When you turn around, they talk shit and become jealous for any petty reason.

Revolving door. So true. But something seems to be blocking the current rotation.

Making new friends is a lot like finding a romantic relationship. In fact, the first few stages are pretty similar. I think there is a thread in Lounge up currently, some of the advice applies to finding new friends too.

I think the first thing is find a hobby you like and join a group with a common interest. This doesn't necessarily mean you'll find long lasting friendships either. It's hard to infiltrate a group when they've been friends for a long time.

I think my best bet to find new friends is birthing class and then waiting until baby is born and using it like a puppy to find new friend.

I miss having baby nieces. Used to take them to the park on a nice day and just wait for the hunnies to flock over. Being the cool uncle had its privileges.

Elise, start going to anything that meets regularly and keep going. Story time, meet up, class, church, whatever and it will happen naturally. All of my new acquaintances are through the waiting room at Silas's speech therapy 2x week, PTA that I've started volunteering for every available chance, or my fitness class that meets 3x a week. I'm not quite good friends with anyone yet, but I've got a few people to talk to and text with. Even if no one ends up being my new BFF which is covered , I'm satisfied socially and emotionally.

My friend from hs, who I consider smaller than me, just had gastric bypass. For some reason, this really really bothers me. I think I'm about to have some sort of weight crisis.

I'm sick as a dog. Comically sick, like some sort of cartoon.

I can't wait to go home and get back in bed. I need an ice pack to wrap around my throat. It's gonna feel so weird and so good.

Feel better soon. I just sent my boss a text letting her know I have been coughing. I don't mind coming in but she is a germaphobe so I like to warn her.

It might be time to turn the heat on at night. Booooooooo. Heat makes me cough more. And dries out my nose. But kitty seems to be getting stiff at night. Poor limpy kitty.

We turned the heat on last night. Silas sweats when he sleeps. Period. Last night it was especially bad and I woke up soaked because of Mr. Silas. When I got out of bed, it was 67 in the house and I thought I was going to turn into a popsicle.

I hate working the close shift. It makes me feel like the whole day is pretty much wasted. I don't have enough time in the morning to get anything done, and by the time I get home it's pretty much dinner then bed. Glad it's the only close I work this week.

i think you're ok if there's nothing you'd actually describe as pain.

Quote :
" Symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain (particularly with deep breathing), coughing up blood, persistent leg pain, or redness, swelling, or warmth in your lower legs (usually one-sided) can all be indications of a blood clot in the legs or lungs, and should never be ignored.

And, give yourself a break already. “Women tend to beat themselves up about losing weight,” says some important lady who knows all about it. “But, if you’re short of breath, it may not mean you’re out of shape. Know the signs and symptoms—you are your own best advocate.”"

Earlier in this thread, over the summer, I posted this:

Quote :
""America's Top States for Business 2013"
http://www.cnbc.com/id/100824779

We used to be in the top 10, top 5 even. But our Technology & Innovation, Education, and Infrastructure & Transportation, and a few other ranks took a hit."

Seems that downward trend is continuing.

"State slips in key business ranking"
http://www.wral.com/state-slips-in-key-business-ranking/13073738/

Quote :
"The magazine's annual ranking reflects a survey of the nation's top corporate site selectors and corporate real estate executives."

Transportation and infrastructure were again important pieces, but it's more interesting what wasn't as important:

Quote :
"Permitting and regulatory procedures, often blamed by state leaders for North Carolina's high jobless rate, ranked only sixth on the list of criteria in 2013. And incentives, often lauded as crucial for job recruitment, ranked only seventh."
