We used to let them out in our yard when we had a tall fence. They chased bugs but never killed anything, probably because we scared off anything they might have been able to find. I wouldn't be surprised if Tom killed something one of the times he hopped the fence, but at least he never brought us any evidence. I wish we still had a tall fence so we could let them out without having to hawk eye them.

When I got in last night, my dog didn't greet me at the door for the first time ever. I found him on his tuffet and knew something was very wrong. I ran over and shook him, screaming at him to wake up, but he didn't respond. So I completely lost it, treating my friend to the most hysterical display I've ever put on--times a thousand. I kept thinking I would eventually calm down, but it only got worse as the minutes passed. Of course, just as I was about to drop to my knees and curse God with raised fists, the little guy finally woke up.

Anyway, I learned that I suck at life and that my dog is really, seriously deaf.

And I can't stop giving him treats now. He died and came back to life.
