I'm not sure how it works on the Federal Level, but in North Carolina you are not allowed to take money donated to your for one campaign and use it on a different campaign. and when you begin to take in money, you have to come up with a plan for dispersing if you decide to quit running for that office. an example would be giving it back to the people who donated to you last or donating it to charity. You are not allowed to give it to people who donated to you first, since that would be highly illegal.

I understand the shadiness of trying to use the money for a congressional run, and I do disagree with it....but he's said all along that he's not going to run as anything other than repub., and going on a spending spree knowing there's no chance of the nomination isn't much better.

I don't know of the regs in such a situation, but I hope he just gives any excess to charity or something....he's already said he will never endorse mccain, if transferring the money to him is even an option.

Why? I mean, isn't that why people gave him money in the first place? To, you know, spend it on a presidential campaign bid?

Is there some point where you cannot be running for two positions at the same time?

Regardless I support what he has done up to now in this Presidential race. To me he was the only candidate that could have "CHANGED" anything in our government. I think he said a lot of things that needed to be said.

To all those who said on the previous page about putting all that presidential money for his congressional bid. Well he can't legally in Texas, just like nutsmackr said at the top for NC. Thats why he set up a separate site for giving to his congressional reelection. http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com/

Quote :
"His (Ron Paul) purpose in entering politics was not to manipulate the system toward ends of which he approves. His purpose has been to teach. He teaches through speeches, writings, voting patterns, bills he has introduced, or any other means that his office permits. His goal has been to spread what he calls the freedom philosophy: that principle that a free people should govern themselves rather than let political establishments manage their lives.

You could see it in his interviews and speeches. His campaign has been a long-running seminar. He has been glad to talk about specific policies, but much happier to talk about the philosophy of freedom. He has urged his listeners to let go of the idea that they need government to protect them, provide for them, and manage their lives. He has told those who wanted lower taxes that they must also live without government benefits.

He has told those who wanted peace rather than war that they must give up the longing for a state that rules the domestic arena. He has reminded people about the true ideals of this country, which are rooted in the idea that society needs no central management to thrive. He has spoken about the true source of wealth, which is not the state but private enterprise. He has urged listeners to give up their belligerent nationalism and think of foreign peoples as human beings just like themselves. He has said things that American political culture bars us from thinking about: such as considering how we would react if some foreign state did to us what the U.S. government routinely does to foreign nations.

He has challenged those on the right who like free enterprise to see how the ideology of war makes their economic position inconsistent and unstable. He has challenged those on the left who dislike war to see how their support of big government at home has the unintended consequence of shoring up military empire. In doing this, he has confronted the most maddening aspect of American political culture, and demanded honesty, truth, and consistency.

The blogosphere filled up with evidence of the intellectual contortions wrought by Ron's political positions. The anti-war people couldn't stomach his support for free enterprise. They have so long demonized "corporate capitalism" and implausibly believed that it, and not government as such, is the cause of the war, they wondered how they could support his domestic program. The champions of free enterprise choked on his war position and his view on civil liberties, which include ideas conventionally attributed to the left. They couldn't understand how a person who wants government out of the domestic economy might look with doubt on global imperialism.

^if his true goal is to teach and keep his ideas a part of national debate and discourse then why not do a third party bid? Neither his small gov or anti war ideas fit in with the party that he is currently running in.

Durham, N.C. — Republican presidential underdog Ron Paul will speak at Duke on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Paul, a congressman from Texas, will also take questions and sign copies of his book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto," during the two-hour appearance.

The event is free to the public, but tickets are required. They can be obtained from the University Box Office in the Bryan Center."

Any of you guys get tickets to this? According to Duke's tickets website, it is sold out.

"April 28, 2008

Dr. Ron Paul Is coming to North Carolina this Friday May 2, 2008 for two public
events. He will be speaking first at UNC-Chapel Hill in the afternoon, from
3:30-5:00 PM. Later, he will speak in the early evening at Duke University in
Durham, from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Dr. Paul's campaign effort is not just about the Presidency. Supporters understand
that he has helped spark a movement to restore the Republic to a true
Constitutional basis. Thus, at each venue Dr. Paul will be conducting a book
signing of his most recent book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto." ( ***ERROR***
(#malformed)

The 3:30 PM event will be at UNC-Chapel Hill's Carrol Hall, which seats about 500
people. Parking is very limited, so come early. The UNC event is free; however,
ticket reservations need to be placed at: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/112241718

For driving directions, a map of the UNC-CH campus and parking areas,
see:http://sils.unc.edu/about/visit.html

The 6:30 PM event will be held at Duke's Reynolds Theater (in the Bryan Student
Center), which accommodates about 600 people. Parking is easy, as there is a parking
deck adjacent to the student center and theater. This promises to be a very special
event, because Dr. Paul is a graduate of the Duke Medical School.

Tickets for the Duke event can be picked up for free from the Reynolds Theater box
office in the Bryan Student Center. Reserving online will guarantee a seat for
those unable to pick up tickets in person beforehand. Online reserved tickets cost
$3 dollars since the university box office charges for processing electronic
ticketing. No portion of this money goes to Dr. Paul.

See the following weblink for Duke Reynolds theater ticket reservations, and click
the icon that reads "All Events" to see the listing for Dr. Paul's talk. This
webpage also has a link to a campus map, at the top right hand corner. Look for the
Bryan Center building because Reynolds Theater is inside the Bryan Student Center.
http://www.tickets.duke.edu/

This website will give you traveling directions to the Duke venue:
http://dukeperformances.duke.edu/venues/reynolds.php

Please note that these events occur during finals week at both UNC-CH and Duke, and
officials at both campuses have asked that we respect their need for quiet and order
during this time. We are working to arrange a location (likely between UNC-CH and
Duke) for public displays of affection for Dr. Paul and his message of hope. Details
will be forthcoming as available.

Don't miss this chance to hear Dr. Paul in person ... Hope to see you all there!

Paid for by the Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign Committee."

from an email on his listserve

Some may find this interesting if they are a part of NC 4th district, I think that includes some of Raleigh and almost all of orange county (maybe some durham)

Dear Jacob,

Thanks for your tireless efforts to advance the cause of freedom. As the Revolution
shifts into high gear, we're beginning to identify strong candidates for federal
office who can help us take back Washington in 2008. I am pleased to introduce a
worthy challenger to the status quo, Dr. William (B.J.) Lawson, who is seeking the
Fourth District's Congressional seat in North Carolina.

B.J. is, like me, a graduate of Duke University Medical School. Also like me, his
passion for public service stems from a deep concern for the economic imbalances
facing our nation. While I spent most of my life as a practicing physician, B.J.
left his neurosurgery residency at Duke to start a hospital software company in
2001, and experienced firsthand the challenges of entrepreneurship as well as the
importance of succeeding by putting customers first. He shares my commitment to a
constitutional federal government, individual liberty, private property rights, a
foreign policy we can afford, and economic growth driven by successful businesses
working to satisfy their customers.

I wish I could say B.J. is going to have an easy journey to Washington in November.
We certainly need him here. But there is a vocal minority in the Republican party
that has other plans. B.J. is battling a neoconservative establishment candidate
right up to the primary next Tuesday. While he is leading based upon this weekend's
polling, there remain many undecided voters and he needs funds to finish his media
and GOTV plan. As this recent debate footage shows, they are very different
candidates indeed:

http://blog.lawsonforcongress.com/2008/02/15/the-great-debate/

After you support B.J. in the May 6th Republican primary, he will then take on Rep.
David Price. Rep. Price is an 11-term incumbent who defines business as usual (
http://blog.lawsonforcongress.com/2008/02/02/of-the-people-by-the-people-for-the-people/
). With your help, B.J. can build the bridges necessary to take the freedom message
across the Fourth District.

Please make a donation ( https://www.lawsonforcongress.com/donate/ ) to help B.J.'s
campaign today -- fundraising is the MOST important thing we can do to help spread
the message. Freedom isn't free, but liberty is priceless!

In liberty,

Ron Paul

"Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul will call on supporters to back a third party candidate for president Wednesday, rejecting his own party’s nominee and offering equally harsh words for the Democratic candidate.

Paul, who unsuccessfully sought the Republican presidential nomination, will tell supporters he is not endorsing GOP nominee John McCain or Democratic nominee Barack Obama, and will instead give his seal of approval to four candidates: Green Party nominee Cynthia McKinney, Libertarian Party nominee Bob Barr, independent candidate Ralph Nader, and Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin, according to a senior Paul aide.

The announcement will take place in the morning at the National Press Club in the nation’s capital.

While Paul failed in his bid for the Republican nomination, he found a large, diverse audience for his anti-war and anti-tax messages. The Texas congressman’s campaign was fueled by a successful on-line grassroots fundraising operation. Throughout the campaign, Paul supporters called on others to join the “Ron Paul Revolution.”

Paul will offer this open endorsement to the four candidates because each has signed onto a policy statement that calls for “balancing budgets, bring troops home, personal liberties and investigating the Federal Reserve,” the Paul aide said."
