yeah simonn, make sure you ignore that unc's entire run came with costner in the game and mccauley on the bench
and i used to naively think hickson would stay, but if i were him there's no way in hell i would. he won't be a lottery this year, but he would get drafted and make lots of money- something that sounds a whole lot more appealing than returning for another year of dealing with this trainwreck excuse for a basketball team. i just hope sidney learned a lot from this whole jj hickson experiement. 2/21/2008 4:58:20 PM |

it's like saying that the shorter of the two midgets isn't tall enough to get some off of the top shelf.
neither one of them is going to reach that shelf for you. what should be discussed is why have both of them digressed so badly? that is sidney lowe's fault, btw. 2/21/2008 5:17:08 PM |

Quote : | "#1 problem (among many) with this team right now IMO: stop playing the fucking scrubs so much.
Starting lineup and minutes: 33 Javi 35 Fells 35 Grant 31 McCauley 31 Hickson
Bench: 13 Smith 5 Costner (Sub for McCauley/Hickson) 12 Johnson (Need to sub for Javi and Fells, could play Fergie but rather have Johnson in) 5 Horner (Sub for Grant, NOT Fells...way too fucking slow to guard SGs)
For comparison check out the minutes in the unc game: 26 minutes for Hickson, 20 minutes for shitty Costner (almost as much as McCauley with only 21 minutes), 11 Fergie minutes, 8 horner minutes...etc.
Way too much time with the shitty players and not enough for the starters. Yeah, I know they get tired....but at least they will get in shape and we could win a few games. Next time watch the game closely in terms of the substitutions and see when the opponent goes on it's run. It's not against our A team. It's when we squad substitute the shit team in." |
slackerb, very well said. how is this lineup not obvious?? the top 5 are our most productive/cohesive group, therefore they should be gobbling up the minutes. if you are not in shape enough to play 35 mins a game at this point in the season then you need to transfer to intramurals.
Tracy Smith has got to get more minutes. He is a like a shot of adrenaline every time he takes the floor. I'm sick of hearing how the other bigs "haven't found their niche" with Hickson on the floor. Costner could learn a thing or two by watching Smith. He just needs to back people down to the goal like last year.
However I blame a lot of the drop in Costner's/McCauley's production on Lowe. He has GOT to figure out a way to get them more involved. Ben is better at creating shots than Costner, but both could use a set play or two geared toward them. How about rotating Hickson up to the elbow every now and then to allow some space to isolate the other bigs? How about trying SOMETHING?
It is so frustrating to watch this talent get wasted...four of our five starters should be all-ACC contenders but Lowe cannot figure out how to put it together. I am not an ACC coach by any means, but I know one thing...Ferguson and Horner on the floor for 20 mins is not the answer.2/21/2008 6:34:42 PM |

I too felt that the massive amount of substitutions he has been doing seems to kill any momentum and lineup chemistry we begin to have in any given game
last year we did better because he was forced not to run that weird system and I think we'd do better if he only ever subbed one or two people at a time than the dramatic lineup changes that he keeps rotating this year 2/22/2008 10:10:42 AM |

Also, no more squad substitutions please. I know it's easier and all, but it kills momentum.
Play bench players less....sub in one or two at a time, not whole squads.

Having a guy who draws a double team in the post would ordinarily be a huge advantage for any basketball team on any level. Real teams would salivate at the opportunity to exploit that kind of advantage. Look at how carolina easily sliced through us once we got desperate and tried to double the douchebag.
Our team just isn't very smart. 2/23/2008 1:08:25 AM |

Much like football under Chuck. One side was awesome and the other sucked. This year our baseball team doesn't look too good at either outside of a few like Dallas, Surkamp, and McConnell. 2/24/2008 12:20:40 AM |

There's no choice but to keep Lowe. From the last coaching search we realized that this is not an attractive job for high profile coaches. If Lowe is fired soon, it will look even worse because a) we ran off a coach that consistently got us to the NCAA, b) we are not willing to give someone enough time.
Best we can do it cross our fingers and hope that Lowe can succeed or let the program suck for a couple more years and roll the dice with another coach. 2/24/2008 5:08:31 PM |

why did we need a high profile coach? we didnt go after 1 not 1 midmajor coach. thats where the good coaches are. rick barnes is texas. anybody can win at texas with half a brain. calipari at memphis is just a cheeser. besides, what do we have that texas doesn't have to offer? why not go after somebody like
charlottes coach?
butlers coach?
siu's coach?
winthrop's coach?
theres so many great coaches in the little conferences that would love to coach somewhere with the resources/fanbase and history of ncstate. same thing with football. why get an acc coach?
it all comes down to our ad sucks and doesn't know what he's doing.
