found the Aprihop last night...

freakin LOVE it. very well balanced fruit taste with good hops. Will go buy more tonight.

also drank a Midas Touch. interesting beer, but not my style. too wine-ish for my liking, but i did like the saffron in it. definitely a good beer for those who like a saison-style. thats what it reminded me of.

I'm amazed by how many calls I have to field about KBS and Hopslam, but hardly any other specific beers. They're damn good beers, but not OMGWTFBBQ!!

i saw the full keg of KBS just sitting in the cooler last night. I felt like i was in that scene from Home Alone with kevin in the basement with the furnace. It was just glaring at me making noises.

Went to Foot Hills last Saturday night. Finally got to try the Seeing Double IPA, and it was great. As a double IPA at near 10% ABV it had a good bitterness, but there was also a citrus after taste present that was a nice finish.

Had the grilled bacon and pimento cheese sandwich for dinner, accompanied by a Torch pilsner.

Busy Bee's 2 year anniversary sounds epic. 8 barrel aged beer, one specialty brew from Terrapin.

Quote :
"To celebrate, we partnered with Terrapin for a super special brew.....we aged maple syrup in a fresh Knob Creek barrel for 3 months, gave the barrel to Ranger and Spike at Terrapin who then filled it with Monk's Revenge, their Belgian style Tripel, and aged it for 11 months! We'll be tapping it on April 6th so don't miss it!"

Well, the tour was basically just standing in the brewing room, trying 4 beers, and talking with the new brewmaster. He said that he uses better quality grains than the previous brewmaster from when they first opened. He was really nice and definitely knows his stuff (eventhough he looks like he just turned 20). Had the Summer Ale, Golden Ale, Scottish Ale and the Porter. All of them were OK, but none really stood out as great to me. I was infinitely more impressed with the menu there for food. Very interesting selection.

I'm much more likely to go back for the food than for their beer.

had a number of beers last night:

1) Modus Hoperandi - fantastic IPA
2) Bells Cream Stout Ale- excellent
3) Foothills Seeing Double- i liked it, but it had a heavier body than I typically like with an IPA
4) Foothills Sexual Chocolate- very tasty
5) Thomas Creek Up the Creek (12.5% black IPA...pretty good!)

ps: i got drunk

some nice pick-ups in Denver so far:
-Russian River Supplication, Consecration, Redemption, Pliny the Elder
-Dry Dock Seven Seas
-Boulevard Tank 7 saison
-Upslope IPA in cans, just okay, was a shot in the dark

Drafts of RR Blind Pig and New Belgium Terroir at Falling Rock

Visits to Wynkoop and Avery, still hoping to hit Great Divide. Avery was awesome, with a very wide selection and cheap samples of everything.

Gonna swing by Snake River in Jackson next weekend, and Wind River along the way, then back through Denver/Boulder on my way out.

good times

^^heck yea!

saw nearly all of Russian River on the shelf tonight:
Consecration, Damnation, Redemption, Sanctification, Supplication and Temptation

Blind Pig is probably the best IPA on the planet, imho. it doesn't get the love because of it's bigger brothers the Elder and Younger, but awesome beer nonetheless...

picked up some Funkwerks White and Port Mongo DIPA

That tommyknocker is tasty, but has the alcohol content of a light beer.

haha, I thought old chub was rough. of course, i'd been drinking for hours in the hot sun and already drunk by the time I opened it... old chub put me out

now "you got old chubbed" is a favorite saying of mine for when someone unexpectedly gets hit hard by a beer

^^^When I did the tour at Big Boss one of the employees told us that canning was the best thing for your beer (they don't do it because they already have so much money sunk in bottling equipment). I don't mind cans at all.

yup-that is why oscar blues does it

no light gets to the beer, better seal, and it allows the beer to chill faster. I wish there was a feasible way to can at home (or for small level brewerys).

Charlotte Saucer has started AmeriCAN Fridays with all canned craft offerings at $4 . With Avery starting to can their year round offerings they now have a pretty decent selection from Avery, Oskar Blues, Ska Brewing, and a couple more. I'll probably always be a bottle guy (until the day I see a canned 22oz bomber) but it's cool to see more taking the chance on canning

I love the Kwak glasses. I have one that the gf found for me at a thrift store in Chapel Hill but I've not had the opportunity to use the crazy thing yet. The beer itself is pretty good too.
