I would say because some people are tied to AT&T for whatever reason and might wanna see what Android has to offer without buying a new phone (or because they don't really like what AT&T currently offers for their android selection)
The ol' AT&T Tilt (made by HTC) has a lot of people working on perfecting eclaire for it for those reasons.5/11/2010 6:37:58 AM |

Big news day this morning.
FroYo is supposed to be 450% faster than 2.1 and more talk of the VZ/Google tablet.
Anyone on here going to Google I/O by chance? The app for it is now released for those who want to see the maps/schedule of events. 5/12/2010 9:49:48 AM |

Here is a themed version of Swype for just about EVERY ANDROID PHONE:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?/topic/2576-mod-blackswype-themed-swype/
Just pick your color for the resolution of your phone. Not sure if it was the app or my download but I was not having luck with the Cyanogen Edition. I have used Blue, Red and Gold on 4 different android phones (Droid, Nexus One, G1 and the Moment) that worked flawlessly. 5/12/2010 3:43:19 PM |

The wait is over - HTC EVO 4G is coming June 4th Tonight, at a special event in New York, we announced HTC EVO 4G will be available exclusively from Sprint on June 4th. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse announced the upcoming availability date for the much-anticipated, award-winning device, along with competitive pricing of $199.99 with two-year service agreement, after $100 mail-in rebate. Hesse’s announcement was made to a large gathering of bloggers, wireless media, tech influencers and large business customers.
Customers have been responding to our HTC EVO 4G pre-registration site at a very impressive clip the past two months. You can still pre-register at http://www.sprint.com/evo to get the latest info on the phone up to launch day. To provide the best experience, HTC EVO 4G will use Sprint’s industry-leading Everything Data or Business Advantage Messaging and Data plans that include unlimited Web, texting and calling on the Sprint Network to every mobile in America with Any Mobile, Anytime. Everything Data plans start at $69.99 per month. A $10 per month Premium Data add-on will apply, allowing customers to take advantage of a richer data experience than ever before. In addition, an optional pricing add-on will turn HTC EVO 4G into a mobile hotspot connecting up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as laptops, gaming devices and digital cameras, simultaneously at 4G speeds where available and at 3G speeds anywhere on the Sprint 3G network for just $29.99 per month – half the monthly cost of the current Mobile Broadband plan (pricing excludes surcharges and taxes).

Nope. I'm getting tired of waiting on this shit too. If this doesn't make for a big improvement, it's time to ditch it. I'm past the days where I need a blazing fast phone but I'm getting fed up with hitting a button and then waiting a second or two for an app to open (especially the phone). My old POS Samsung i730 was as fast as this damn thing.5/12/2010 10:34:56 PM |

^Yup, you are paying the $10 extra per month to access 4G content on the phone (mandatory fee). The $29 hotspot fee is optional, but still half than Verizon charges for PAM. 5/12/2010 10:35:49 PM |

Yeah I'll be applying a 22% EMP code to soften the blow. $10/mo manditory 4G when I'll never be in a coverage area will fucking blow, but maybe I can get a nice SERO conversion with a loyalty discount instead. We'll see. I'm getting the damn phone regardless haha. 5/13/2010 2:10:13 AM |

well i mean you could trick that system because of nationwide roaming.
what if you simply drive through a city that has 4g coverage? do you get the $10 fee then? it'd be far too messy to implement something like that imo. 5/13/2010 7:40:22 AM |

^^^ ha, if you're jealous of the Eris, you'd probably kill yourself if she had the Incredible or the Evo in a few weeks. As for screen shots, you either have to root and use an app like drocap2, download one of the home replacements (can't remember which one has that feature), or use the android sdk (only one that doesn't require root). 5/14/2010 10:39:16 AM |

Quote : | "Nexus One coming to retail stores as Google admits web strategy didn't work Posted on Friday, May 14, 2010 by Ali Fazel Let's cut to the chase. Google is going to offer the Nexus One in traditional retail outlets. While they were trying to be innovative in offering the phone exclusively through their google.com/phone website, Andy Rubin (VP of engineering for Android) himself writes today that sales have been less than stellar and that users want to play with a phone before they buy it.
"As with every innovation, some parts worked better than others. While the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded our expectations, the web store has not. It’s remained a niche channel for early adopters, but it’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from.
So today we’re announcing the following changes:
More retail availability. As we make Nexus One available in more countries we’ll follow the same model we’ve adopted in Europe, where we're working with partners to offer Nexus One to consumers through existing retail channels. We’ll shift to a similar model globally.
From retail to viewing. Once we have increased the availability of Nexus One devices in stores, we'll stop selling handsets via the web store, and will instead use it as an online store window to showcase a variety of Android phones available globally.
Innovation requires constant iteration. We believe that the changes we're announcing today will help get more phones to more people quicker, which is good for the entire Android ecosystem: users, partners and also Google."
No word yet on availability. " |
