Ah I see.. unfortunately I can't get it where I live.
On that note, they should make something in the middle. Sashimi is all protein (and fat). Sushi is a lot more carbs than protein.
How about Sushimi (or Sashi), with equal amounts of carbs and protein (or more protein)? I have Japanese stuff only 2-3 times a year, so perhaps something like that exists. (not with name, though!) 6/18/2010 6:50:54 PM |

the shashimi plates i get always come with a bowl of sticky rice which i thought was better than regular long grain rice
but yes, most places will give you brown rice if you ask 6/18/2010 6:56:32 PM |

EVERYBODY IN THIS SHOULD READ THIS!

Here is a very interesting (and shocking for some!) excerpt to pique your interest:
Quote : | "A study from the Annals of Behavioral Medicine published in 2008, showed that people who made one small, permanent change in their daily habits (such as swapping out a can of soda for water) actually lost about four times more weight (and more than twice as much high-risk belly fat) than subjects who were adhering to dietary and exercise program guidelines.
Research shows that realistic lifestyle changes only take about 21 days to become habit, so try adding in one small change at a time, every three weeks or so." |

I don't like white rice at all, so I usually just get raw strips of fish if I go to a sushi place. it's an expensive unsatisfying meal unless you happen to find one of those rare buffets where the sushi is actually decent. 6/18/2010 7:51:25 PM |

OEPII1, I know it doesn't help you out but you can get brown rice sushi at Harris Teeter. I haven't had it though, since I hate brown rice. My favorite sushi is just some good cuts of raw tuna with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce. I don't need rice or that other crap they heap on that removes some healthiness of the meal. 6/18/2010 9:33:23 PM |

CHECK IN
and cody
i feel really good about this week and ive made some definite progress. however i also feel its not much progress and have decided to add more cardio, i almost completely stopped it (as requested by several people) almost and now think that wasn't a good idea. i feel like i've gained muscle (yay!) but i have lost very little, if any, fat :-/.
i also would like to add that the first picture i took for this challenge is a bad baseline pic. i'm CERTAIN that i look a little more cut now than in that pic but i can't seem to get it to show in pics.
oh well....
with that being said im about to either A. run to the gym and play around with some weights or B. run to the grocery store and pick up some turkey bacon to cook when i get back

how are you guys losing so much weight in a week? is it really possible to burn that much fat or is it muscle/water loss also? I've had a 15-1700 calorie day every day this week and weight lifted and haven't seemed to budge at all. 6/19/2010 10:02:27 AM |

170lb, 6ft.... I'm guessing around 18% bodyfat but I haven't had it properly tested. I have been eating less than 2000 calories a day for the past two weeks minus a cheat day last saturday, weight lifting 5 days a week and running 2.8 miles once a week.

your glycogen stores will get depleted slightly when you start dieting, especially if you are being active every day. If you do a ketogenic diet, your body will dump almost all of its glycogen stores. I dropped 10 pounds the first week on a ketogenic diet, but probably only a pound of that was fat. the majority of it is water and glycogen, and I will gain that 9 pounds back when I introduce carbs back in after my weight training sessions.6/19/2010 12:19:38 PM |

i did a 6+ mile this morning (posted in the running thread). galloway style. i actually really liked it and didn't feel like death at the end. next week is 8 miles. i like the galloway schedule better than my TNT schedule (as far as mileage). plus i love the walk/run. 1 min run 1 min walk is a little too much walking for me so i'm going to get an interval timer and do like 3:1 or something. i dunno. either way i felt good about myself for doing over 6 miles. i honestly felt like i could have run MORE than 6 (which is obviously good since i'm running a 1/2 marathon in sept!). plus its weird because you can still walk/run as fast as you can just straight run. i don't really understand how it works but, whatever. i'm down. felt better on my shins too although one is starting to bruise a little
anyways, while on the target website i found a picture of what i would like my body to look like, please. new goal - look like this:

In my opinion, the empty bar is less embarrassing than when you add a 5lb plate to either side. Then it seems to really accentuate how little you're lifting 6/19/2010 2:55:09 PM |

I have gone down to a 1300 calorie a day diet, which i started just this week. i am losing inches as well as pounds, so i'm thinking that mine isn't just water weight, but i'm actually burning that much fat (and i'm gaining muscle too - i think)6/19/2010 4:11:33 PM |

glycogen is just how your body stores carbs. You can eat something high in glucose (dextrose) immediately after a workout to replenish your muscle stores, but you can't do that if you're on a ketogenic diet.6/19/2010 4:37:50 PM |
