There's a neat little app that helps with memorizing them called Hanzi Warrior. It's a game + rote memorization that's based on the HSK exam so at least you know you're not learning obscure useless characters. It also helps if you learn the particles. Once you understand what the little pieces mean it helps in figuring out what the character means, but sometimes that backfires

no i haven't been in zucotti park

the only things i've seen from zucotti park are live feeds, and i've watched hours of them. we have zucotti park protestors and some organizers who ended up with us here in pittsburgh. the situations are different and OWS protestors are different probably depending on the city.

the online proceedings of the NYC contingent are online and yes, i've been through god knows how much of it. what it reveals is that there are a lot of people out there for lots of reasons (kind of like in Pittsburgh), and it's actually quite far from the bogus reality you've painted about people who don't know why they're out there. plenty of them don't know the precise mechanisms and explanations economically speaking but then again, neither do you.

the fact of the matter is, many of the underlying positions and attitudes of OWS have been crystal-clear since day one and your bullshit opinions are obviously just that: crafted from second-hand sources and carefully created media narratives. is this really how you go about getting your information?

and no, i don't have to be in zucotti park to post about OWS first hand, because it's a nation(world?)-wide movement. one of the top-10 largest OWS kick-off protests was in my city; there is a shitload of philosophical and political cross-pollination between OWS events and groups affiliated with them. your attempts to talk about them as some unified movement which you've gotten inside the head of is nothing less than ridiculous

seriously just open up a live feed or any of the (now) hundreds of hours of documentary footage from Zucotti Park specifically, and try and catch a general assembly or something like that. you don't need to be physically fucking present to watch and understand an event, free from commentary or biased framing.

just the other morning after all of the eviction madness, there was a live feed set up where one of the emergency general assemblies was shown nearly in entirety. there's a lot you can do to actually educate yourself on the matter, but instead you want to trust your chucklehead friends and some news casters owned by corporations. lol.

^ I've been trying to tell people that there are two different people at OWS. The pragmatists that think we can make a few small changes to our current system fix many of our "problems" and those I would call Dreamers that want to scrap our entire system and come up with something different. These dreamers can easily be mistaken for lazy, out there, hippies; the reality is their beliefs are way more complicated than that. I'd say a majority of OWSers falls in the former category of pragmatists, even though the latter is pretty vocal. What both agree on is that our current system has problems that need to be addressed.

The problem is that you (and far too many others who are otherwise reasonable people) see this as something one must either fully support or fully deride.

The argument that OWS has failed to produce a unified list of demands misses the point entirely-- This is not an amalgamation of like minded people all striving for a complete change to a socialist or communist government. Certainly given that this is a completely decentralized and leaderless movement, if one only pays attention to the bits and pieces that hit fox news, cnn, etc, it doesn't always paint a pretty picture, but you gotta remember they're just after soundbites that help their ratings.
