I, too, wanted a big dog. Lola is about 43lbs. She does fine in the apartment, you just have to be able to walk them every day. If you dont, they get pretty obnoxious b/c they have all this pent up energy.

What breed do you want? You should get a mutt...

I REALLY wanted a St Bernard but I didn't want my roommates cat to disappear

Lola is pretty much the perfect size for me. She's tall enough that I don't have to bend down to pet her, and when she jumps, she's a little lower than my shoulder. PLUS she has been drama since I got her (with her health) so I'm glad I can pick her up. I doubt I could pick up a Mastiff or St B and bring it down a flight of stairs into my little Corolla
