What should I know about ret pallys?

I'm ready to get laughed at, got used to that with my enhance shammy. (Until they grouped with her! )

I was making a ret pally alt, but they just seem so hard to gear.

Do you stack up attack power or spell damage or what?
I got confused and kept playing my warlock.

you stack neither, you stack crit as a ret pally to keep vengeance up. after that you want str for ap/ac. spell damage is pretty much useless on a ret pally, like spell damage on an enhancement shaman. yeah it's nice to have, but not worth sacrificing any other stat for.

^ not exactly. Spell damage is just as important for a ret pally than anything else, it is how your yellow damage is calculated right this moment.

But after the massive changes to ret in 2.3 damage will be based on AP and crit. They are saying you need to get 2k AP with might to deal decent damage after 2.3 comes out. My set currently has 2.3k without boots, belt, and neck

Man, being a destro lock is fucking awesome.

My priest 2v2 partner and I just roll countless people in BGs. I'd say that destro locks benefit from healing even more than warriors. Well, vs melee at least, backlash ftw. Granted, we're fighting some decent players mixed with complete scrubs, but you still feel pretty fucking invincible when you take on 3-4 people at once, and still come out alive.

edit: we lost that top game 1900 to 2000, was still fun though

For Ret you need to stack AP until you get around 1800 unbuffed, and then start stacking crit. Starting out you should aim for 1700 AP and 25% crit, and then get to 1800-2000 AP with 30% crit.

A simple google search:

Ret stat priority

1.- +hit (5% is the cap vs a lvl 70 mob, 8% vs a lvl 73 mob)
2.- Attack Power (STR – Each STR = 2 Attack Power)
3.- Critical Strike (AGI – Each AGI at lvl 70 = 0.7 Critical Strike Rating)
4.- +Spell Damage (It is not as important as Attack Power but helps a bit NOTE: Do not sacrifice any of the other stats above this one for more +spell damage)
5.- Mana (INT – Granted the spec I will give you in this guide will help you a lot to conserve mana, it is always good if you can get extra mana WITHOUT sacrificing any of the top stats)
6.- Stamina (STAM - Yeah we wear plate, but having hp in case we pull agro “I almost always do :S” is good)
7.- Mana Regen (SPI/MP5 – Last but not as important is mana regen, again the spec I will give you will enable you to effectively dps with minor mana)

First page of the WoW paladin forums: AP > Crit math http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=2718121866&sid=1

AP gives the ret paladin sustainable damage, the crit gives the paladin the big number spikes. Vengence will not fall off because you should be critting within the 30 seconds that it lasts now. I geared my paladin for ret, so I researched it a TON before giving up on the lack luster spec and went prot, which is a ton more usable.

However, I've about abandoned the paladin for my new shadow priest , but when 2.3 comes out...big changes in store!

even if they bring up ret-dps to the level of other classes, you will then fall into the classic fury problem, you will do sick dps right up until your pull aggro and get bbq'd.

JK... what does that spec do? I've never played a lock. What do each spell do? I'd like to know so if there is a chance for me to fight one, i'd know what was going on.

I use more shadow than fire, shadow bolt crits > incinerate. Your dots start ticking harder, shadowburn/shadowfury do a little extra damage.

I'm 7/5/49, and yeah, destro sucks for arenas. It's fun and challenging though, 1900+ in 2v2s, looking to hit the same this week in 3s.

^what class are you?

destro locks are glass cannon. if left alone, they can do NASTY damage, but if anyone gets on em, they're trash. sucubus dies so easy that their cc is anecdotal at best. they rock in 5v5 though, shadowfury on the whole other team dot dot dot, conflag/soulfire depending on your gear. I'd probably spec 21-0-40 though, for syphon life

Smart destro locks (JK) use felhunters like any other spec; Drakedog hitting 7k Soulfire crits using seduce/coel in a pvp BG video doesn't translate to the succubus being a viable pet in arenas. Siphon Life is counter-intuitive to what a destro lock's purpose is - burst. They weren't built to outlast, so Shadowfury is a much better option. Also, lol Nether Protection.

P.S. mages need buff for 2v2 viability plz

shit just got real

^dude we frapsed some fights last night, gonna see how they turned out

Nashattack - oh ok, you're a warrior. It's about 50/50 for me vs a well geared warrior, even with all my cooldowns. I'm assuming you're smart, so I'm already charged/hamstrung. I put my dots on first, then immolate. Then pray for a backlash, which I usually get. Deathcoil, followed by a regular cast shadowbolt. Then, shadowfury, conflag, shadowburn. Possibly another backlash.

Sometimes I live, sometimes I don't. Mace stuns are fucking retarded, and seem to come at just the wrong moments. I also don't use a pvp trinket (LOL NOOB), which would probably change this entirely. Deathcoil to force an intercept, then shadowfury to stun, pop trinket and run like fuck.

Basically I try to kill you before you kill me, that's how I've always dealt with warriors. It's just a straight up dps race. Used to be easy back in the 60s, when "dps" warriors had less hp than me.

^Your frapsed your 2s or 3s? But yeah, you really need to get a trinket, especially if you expect me to transfer to Ass Galore and run with you guys .

And looool at mace stun procs; at least those are getting "nerfed" in 2.3.

We frapsed a couple 2s in which a warrior/pally were shat upon, and a rogue/priest were JUST BARELY killed. Also some BG action.

All from the priest pov though, dunno how that will turn out.

time for class

Yeah a hunter priest team usually has us licking our chops, typically we just blow the hunter down before a priest even gets a chance to heal. The only problem comes if the priest is specced heavy into disc. and is well geared, those fuckers are hard as hell to kill. Thats why we typically assume this is the case and just burn down the hunter, plus hunter is all the dps and if we are both on top of him he wont be doing much damage unless he is BM.

even if he is BM he still wont be doing much dps at all. on the run arcane shotting is hardly sufficent dps to bring down a rogue and druid.

^X7 Yeah our 2s went 1-2 against this rogue and 28/33 priest team last night. We shit on them the first game so the rogue respecced AR/prep for rushdown on my spriest...our strategy was to force the cloak, pop WE after, try to burst down the rogue through chain improved CS (respecced this week)/silence on the priest. The rogue being UD didn't really help when my spriest was trying to tank him; finished the night at just above 1800 .

I need my lock partner to stop PvEing like a queerbot so I can ride his 27/34 coattails to victory.

markbrandpan I think you were going against me and my friends alt priest. BE priest and UD fist rogue? we typically have our way with any double cloth team unless its 2 soullink locks in 400+ res, just because we arent that geared. we were at 1840ish but finished at 1797. a frost mage/combat mace rogue team beat us a few times

yeah it's definitely a nasty combo since you have a class with infinite dps (i.e. not mana dependant) and arguably the most versatile 2s healer

not to mention rogues have at least 2 extremely viable high-end arena specs so it's more difficult for teams to make adjustments during repeat games

I've got an undergeared 70 rogue and some other various characters <40. I haven't played it since about May, and the gamecard expired around beginning of August. I no longer have a reason to play this game, as it is not in my desired field of entertainment.

Bidding is now open on the account name and password. Note that bids may not be accepted until they reach a certain price yet to be determined.

Edit: Oh, and the rogue is Night Elf, on... I forgot which server. Most of the 30-ish characters are horde, one of which is on a PvP server.
