KK, KK, KK... candy money, bust, bust.

1/2 Borgata last Sunday morning. ($60/$300 min/max)

NoidRoid and I had just gotten to a table and were fortunate enough to have been sat at the same table again.

My first hand, I look down at KK.

here we go! hopefully ill get some action, it being my first hand at the table and all. Im in middle position (seat 5 to be exact), and i raise to $12. One caller. Thats not bad.

except i look over, and the guy has about $30 remaining in front of him. Feck. I want to be paid off large for the few times you pick up a monster. doesnt look like ill be able to needle anything out of him unless he hits his hand. This usually is implies I need an ace to fall on the board to get action... except thats the only action i dont want. dammit.

flop: K, 3, 5

i check, hoping he maybe has AK. who knows. he checks. this is sweet. =/

turn: x (small and didnt matter)

i bet out $5.

he folds for a $5 bet into a $27 pot.

sweet. big action.

Two hands later, NoidRoid raises out in early position to 12 or 15 dollars. 2 (i think) callers.

NoidRoid - ~$205 or so
1st caller - ~$1100
maybe another caller, dont remember, inconsequental b/c he dropped on the flop if there was another.

Having played/watched/theorized with Justin the amount that I have, I have a pretty good idea what he is holding. I sit back and watch the show.

The bet sizes may be a bit off from the actual sizes, its been a few days now, and the whole weekend was quite a blur. not from alcohol, but from sleep dep, and playing damn near 40 hours of poker in 2.5 days.

flop: JcTcX(red low card)

NoidRoid bets out ($25?)
big stack calls.

turn: 8(red)

NoidRoid bets out ($50)
big stack calls.

river: 5c

NoidRoid bets out ($50)
big stack raises to $150.

Hes pretty much forced to make a crying call. big stack flips over Kc9c. NoidRoid had KK.

How unfortunate to go from being in a domination situation to having the guy you dominated keep improving, improving, then hitting the draw on the end. I dont have the exact bets correct, or the starting amounts correct, but they are close. After the hand, Justin had 1 $1 chip in play. no one noticed it, and apparently he didnt either. he saw two hands before realizing the situation.. he apparently was kinda dazed and replaying the hand.. im just really surprised they let him sit at the table with $1.

The long and winding trip walking around to compose yourself.

the slow motion steps you take when you bust out.

he comes back and rebuys for $200 more.

Probably not more than 5 hands after he rebought, I pick up kings again, UTG+1.

UTG raises to $15.
I announce raise, but do not want to push him out. I kept thinking of the hand the day before where i re-raised with aces to 3x the bet, and pushed out the bettor and the caller. I do not want that to happen again.

Min raise sounds good.

I raise to $30.

folds around to UTG. he calls.

Starting stacks.

Me: ~$240 (utg+1)
UTG: ~$800 (he had a full rack of reds, and several working stacks.. including a $20 yellow chip (weird, this was the first time i'd played at the borgata, and didnt know what the yellow chips were.. i was pretty sure that it was 1k, but turns out i was way off... I though this guy was having a hell of a night.))

flop: 3, 5, 7, rainbow.

he bets out $25.....

this seemed really odd to me for some reason. Why bet out $25 into a pot with $60ish in it. especially after i had shown aggression to his UTG PFR. As a matter of NLHE, or PLHE, stack size in relation to bet size can really tell you alot about a hand. If he really had a strong hand, why would he only want to peter around with a bet that represented about an eigth of my remaining stack, and so little of his? Was he trying to sucker me in with a flopped set figuring I was drawing slim? Seemed more like he was trying to take it down with AK or on the other end of the spectrum had another over pair and was worried about overcards comming on the turn/river.

I need to know more. I dont want to lay a trap here. I am vulnerable.

I reraise to $50. (granted this was probably a bit low, but it was more of an info bet.) If it took it down, hell yeah. If he reraises, I dump it. If he folds, he must put me on AA or KK. If he just smooth calls, well, then i didnt learn shit.

he just smooth calls.

feck feck feck feck.

Q of the 4th suit on the board.

he checks to be after a few seconds. well.. in my mind that looks to me like he is worried about his pair maybe not being good. JJ? TT? what the hell was he playing....

remember its still like the 2nd or 3rd orbit ive been at this table.

I bet out $75. I have maybe $95 left in front of me after commiting ~60% of my stack on this hand.

He reraises all-in.

my heart screams QQ!!! QQ!!!! QQ!!!! fuck!!!!

at this point im committed. god, fuck! call.

QQ.

1 time dealer! but hell no.

my turn to take that magical walk where you seem almost high. get sucked out, busted out, and walk away to compose yourself before you rebuy. Its really the most uncomfortable feeling.

but i did rebuy for $200 and doubled through the guy who busted me in 2 orbits.

as soon as he flipped em over and i saw that he needed a diamond, i knew what was coming next. its one of those days

what would you poker experts have done differently? i'm thinking reraise him all-in after he bet 2000.

on a side note - in online poker, everytime some fool goes all in with like 2-7... and gets lucky and hits a random straight or something. why do the people always say "nh" - i can understand it when homeboy tricks me into calling his 3 of a kind with my 2 pair.... but these people make me mad when they compliment stupid play.

I'm with you, the nh thing is a joke...but I guess it's force of habit...or maybe they're just that terrible of players

I think your post-play read is best play (all in post flop) your best bet is to force him to put everything on the line for a draw (runner runner no less)...my guess is he put you on AJ, AQ, AK and tried to bully you off the pot (semi-bluff)

Been an awful day online for me, but this may be the worst:

Me in SB with Ah9c in a S/G with about 7 people left.
Minimum raise from chip leader, I and 3 others call

Flop: Ac 7d 3d
I, BB check, Original raiser bets small, I raise, get called by big blind and raiser

Turn: 9s
I check, BB checks, Raiser bets, I go all-in, BB calls, Raiser calls.

We all have A9, except the raiser has 2 diamonds and gets his flush on the river

a bunch of helmuths in this thread.

there is no such thing as perfect poker. and if you came anywhere close, you wouldnt still be stuck at .50/1 or 1/2 on party poker. you can build a substantial roll on those games, they are crushable.

even solid poker players lose sometimes. great poker players even have years where they dont turn a profit.

the reason people do this, myself being one of them is something like conditioning. If an opponent sucks out with terrible odds, you reward them with a compliment, making them feel they did something good so that they do it again. you've already lost that hand, so there is no need to cuss them out and tell them how bad of a play it was because you want them to do it again. The more trials you have, the more closely the actual results approach the theoretical probability. If someone calls an all-in with a gut-shot and hits, i will smile and say nice hand, bc the next 10 times i'm taking his stack, and when i see a player like that I want him staying at the table

it doesn't matter what you were talking about.....a bad play is a bad play, if someone says nh to someone who chases a gutshot it is the same as someone saying nh to someone who flops a set with 7-2

largest misconception in poker.

"If i move up, i wont have these dumbshits, it'll be a better game and i will win more."

Read Small Stakes Hold'em by Miller, Skalansky and Malmuth. its the first page.

Seriously, its the best limit poker book for the game you see at party .5/1->5/10

HEFAP by skalansky (seems to be a popular choice) was aimed at the games at 30/60 and above, and the concepts really dont apply to the games we all play. Sure its worth the read, but you cant expect your 1/2 game online to react the same as a live 40/80 game. Most of the concepts in that book only apply HU, which is what happens at a 40/80 game. anything below 10/20 and its loose as fuck.

you must learn to crush loose passive games in order to be a good limit player.

now for nl....

ive only ventured into the 400nl rooms a few times, but the play seemed just as bad.

larger games just mean fish with larger BRs. (to an extent).

what i was saying about the 400nl room is online.

what would you consider a "medium-large buy in nl table?? "

the 300max nl game is the cheapest nl game youll find in AC. It is also the only one i've played. therefore, you get a nice line of targets that run in and just throw money around. there's plenty of money to be made at 1/2 NL

i may sack up and play the 2/5 NL next time, but thatll have to be after a nice cashout from a 1/2 game (like, to be able to buy in full in profits from the 1/2)

many casinos have a 100max as their 1/2 game, but that does seem a bit low.. this is mostly at foxwoods or vegas. (this is all from hearing peoples stories playing in these games.)

ive played 6/12 LHE and 10/20 LHE live in AC, only to find that half the table is solid, half the table is the same dingalings who populate the 2/4.

bigger rolls =)

i've heard rumors of 50 max buy ins in ac, but this was 2 yrs ago, i don't know about it now

medium to large i would consider between 500 -2k, just wandering if a lot of tourists with good jobs try to play these tables, or if it's mostly people who play a lot of cards

Chemguy moves all in for 11.50 and ends up with 11.10

I know sometimes with 4-of-a-kind I can bust someone's boarded pair (thought they had a full house) with an A...but a royal on the board...

You wouldn't believe how many people don't know how to read a board and will fold. I have done that before with the nut straight on the board, best possible hand, and moved all in, and had the person I was up against fold. I do admit though, the royal flush is kinda hard to miss.

^Sup David, you wouldnt happen to know of anyone who wants to play small tourneys or cash games that aren't Texas do you? I'm with you, Texas Hold em is getting boring and I'd much rather be playing some other game, like 7 stud, or dealer calls games.

Hell at this point you know anyone who plays smaller buy in(5-10) Texas tourneys round Raleigh? I still havent found a game here I like since Turner's old games.

I'm starting to think there is a conspiracy against me on pokerrom. Its like they know I have no job right now and am playing S/G tournaments for income. This is my day today, of the 5 I've played:

I've had QQ 4 times, all in late position. seen 3 flops, and all of them have had BOTH A & K on them, and have been bet or bet & raised into from those who callled my initial raise pre-flop.

1st S/G: 4 people left, I get 77 in BB, big raise, 1 caller. Flop 2 4 6 rainbow, I bet big, call. Turn 9. I go all-in, call. He has A8 off and gets an 8 on the river.

2nd: I get 66 in early position, in 1st blind structure (10/20) get reraised and call along with 2 others to 250 total. Flop Js 3s 6h. I bet, raise, I and 1 other call. Turn: 4d. I go all in, get one calller, who has 5s6s, and gets the 2s on the river.

3rd: 1st hand I get 10 2 in big. 6 limpers, I check. Flop 10 7 2 rainbow. I check, get bet from button, I raise, he calls. Turn 4. I bet, he goes all-in, I call. He has Q 10. River: 4, so he outkicks me.

The other 2 were "legit" beats when I got KOed by better hands (88 vs AA & A8 vs. AJ). Still, something is just funny. I have made a flush, but no straights, sets or better... which is highly odd for the site and as many hands as I've played. I'd move to somewhere else if I could, but the macintosh limits my choices.

With my bankroll dwindling, I retreated to the $5 S/Gs to try to rebuild, and this is what I am greeted with:

1: After losing most my stack with AK to A8, I was pushed all-in preflop with AQd. Guy with j8 calls and flops a boat.

2: VERY tight table all afraid of 1 idiot who raises/plays anything. I have about 1600 in chips and get 44 UTG, and I make a standard raise (to 200). He puts me all-in. Knowing what this guy had been playing, showing, and winning with, I reluctantly call. He has J4 off. Yay! I'm way ahead!

Until the flop is JJJ

Truth be told, in limited play this year I've pulled about $1000 out of the site. So I must be doing something right, or am at least horrifically lucky (which I'm sure some of you reading this will say is correct). But the last thing I will ever claim is to be any good at poker. Nor will you ever find me in any of the high stakes games y'all play, live or online.

And for the record, I didn't quit my day job, the Governor eliminated the funding. So I figured making about $300 a week seemed reasonable until the semester starts back up, and I can start teaching again. And I did w/d $120 earlier this week when I was winning. But if I was wrong, then oh well. I'll keep learning, and havin fun while doin it.

I am in a happy mood. I was 109th in the citywide standings and after the tournament tonight I placed 15th, which in my mind is good in a a field of about 200.

i wont play a motherfucking piece of shit low pocket pair under 10 unless i can limp it in for cheap or free. shit never hits. its really nice when it does, but if you had to pay a lot to play it theres probably something better out there... or at least some guy with an over card that keeps calling cause he's looking for a heart.

i couldnt make poker my career, i'd fucking flip out.

best hand ever was a royal flush of hearts but i went all in and no one called.

one time in a tourney i was holding A6 and the flop came out AAA

me and the other guy both check, the turn is a K, he bets and i call, the river is a K

so the community cards are AAAKK, I go all in because odds are it is the best possible hand to me and my opponent (in his opinion). he calls and i show him the 4th ace
