Someone needs to get a screen capture to verify, but I'm pretty sure whenever "Jacob" pushes Ben away, you see the top of his head or something. Maybe I imagined it.

ben just seemed really over-intrigued by what jacob told locke - i was wondering if that implied that Ben's whole back-and-forth with jacob was just a charade and that he led locke there in hopes that he'd tell him something

fuckin uncle rico

me and SipnOnSyzurp were trying to figure out where that dude was from

bad ass episode imo, i think locke's still alive. not enough questions answered as promised though.

also, ben flipped out when locke mentioned richard knowing about jacob, and richard seems like he used to lead the 'hostiles'. that's pretty interesting.

and, about seeing jacob's head: thanks to dvr, there is definitely a frame or two where you can see some other dude's head.

Here's "Jacob":

Not sure what is going on... is Ben just crazy? Because they definitely showed a person there once things got all weird, but it wouldn't be the first time that weird things just seemed to appear. And Locke heard "Help me." is that help me as in "join us" or help me as in "I'm in trouble/held hostage/etc."?

How about Richard looking just as young now as he did when Ben met him as a kid .. some 35-40 years ago (I'm assuming long-haired dude in the forest was Richard). Maybe it was Richard's father. Or maybe I don't have a fucking clue what's going on.

^^was wondering the same thing, dude looked exactly the same now as then. Makes me think that many of the others are the same hostiles that took out the Dharma Initiative people. I am wondering if Ben is threatened by Locke as his replacement to the hostiles. It would appear that Ben had a similar connection with the island in that he could see his mother, and Richard took a particular interest in what he had to say concerning this. Maybe, up until now Ben was, in their mind, the "chosen one" who could communicate with the island. Suddenly Locke shows up and has been given the ability to walk while Ben is confined to a wheel chair. This is why Ben made Locke "kill" his father, much like he was, and why he took Locke to see Jacob. He wanted to see if Locke really could see or communicate with Jacob/the island like he could. Now that Ben knows that Locke is "special" he is simply eliminating the competition.

I'd say that's a pretty solid theory ... but why would Ben even assume that Locke wants to be "leader" of the others/hostiles? There's certainly been no indication he'd want too, even if he is "special."

And that picture of Jacob is weirding me out. I keep looking over at this rocking chair in my living room and thinking i see an old crusty dude.

The fact that Richard did look almost exactly the same kind of brings back the idea of time moving slower on the island, maybe even vs whatever is inside the sonic fence.

Ben has been telling everyone that he was born on the island, yet he told Richard (or long hair Richard look a like) that he was not. To me there's no way it can be the same guy for that reason. I think Richard must be long haired Richard's son. Whatever he is, I hope we see a lot me of him. He makes me moist in the panties.

great episode.

Actually, it would only be about 20 years, wouldn't it, assuming Ben was about 10 when he came to the island, and in the episode it was his 31st birthday.

I'm guessing there's some sort of 'prophecy' or something like that where there's a "chosen one" who comes to the island, kills his father, etc. Ben was that guy, now the natives think that Locke may be him. Remember when Locke was beating Mikael's (sp?) ass, and ben kept looking around and asking for someone to stop them, and none of them did anything. They didn't respond to Ben's leadership and let Locke do his thing, so whether or not Ben thinks Locke 'wants' to be a leader/chosen one, he's still going to see him as competition, especially after he heard Jacob.

I'd say its a pretty safe assumption. Ben knows that Locke does not want to leave the island and wants to know its secrets. As far as Ben knows, Locke killed his father to learn these secrets. Ben also knows that Locke sees himself as a man looking for a path, a man of destiny. I can see how Ben could assume that Locke would be their leader if he felt it was his place to do so.

That said, after thinking about things this morning, I have to wonder why Ben would take the time to help Locke along the path. Is Ben really threatened by Locke and tested him to make sure that he is who Ben thinks he is, or does Ben feel that Locke is an important part in the history and/or future of the island? Did he shoot Locke because he was threatened, or was it a third test of Locke's communion with the island? Based on Ben's reaction at the hut and Jacob saying "help me" to Locke, I'm still thinking that Ben sees Locke as a threat.

I wonder who isn't an original of the island and how long it's been since Ben killed off the Dharma people (at least three years because that's how long Juliette has been on the island).

maybe thats why those two guys didnt help the russian when he was getting his ass kicked by Locke.

They think Locke is a messiah now that he "killed his dad" and all. Probably the same way they looked at Ben after he gassed his Dad and the Dharma initiative.

^Yeah, Ben's power is basically fading away right before his eyes. However, not all of the others thinks that Locke killed his dad. Remember that Richard was the one who gave him the file on Sawyer and basically told him he understands that Locke can't kill his dad so here is someone who will. I think that Richard may end up being a very important character when its all said and done. Maybe he is the reason Jacob needs help and not because of Ben. Maybe Ben is just an unknowning pawn in Richard's mind games, much like other characters have been pawns in Ben's. Also, just thought of this, has there been any intereaction between Richard and any other character besides Locke and Ben? If not it may explain why he doesn't seem to have aged since Ben was a boy.

This hasn't been mentioned yet, I guess, but I think the sand around Jacob's cabin was some sort of circle of protection keeping him confined.

He looks like Kris Kristofferson off hand, but I don't think he actually is.

I still want to know who the fuck the hostiles/others are. It appears that they took over at least to some extent dharmas research when they purged them. But were they already researching the island in the first place, or what.

I like the idea that the hostiles had been on the island for a long time, at least since the time of the Black Rock, and living on the island having discovered its power, and then the Dharma Initiative came and fucked it all up so they were like "Yeah...you bitches gotta go."

I like that idea ^, except I would modify it to say that I think the hostiles have been there for a LONG time. As in, hundreds or maybe thousands of years. Remember the creepy 4-toed statue remnant. That didn't look new. If you really want to get crazy, maybe the hostiles are not just the descendants of people who have lived on the island for thousands of years, but actually are the people who have lived on the island for thousands of years. It would be awesome to find out that Richard, for instance, is really like 900 years old.

Also, what about Ben's sweet baby boo? Surely she didn't die when they exterminated Dharma...either she lived, or, more likely, she was dead already (Ben knocked her up, perhaps, and she died in childbirth).

And I loved the similarities between Jacob and Carnivale's Management.
