well, you can of course turn the 3G off... I'm not so sure that if you evaluated the power used per kb downloaded that 3G would be less efficient. it may use power more quickly but it just seems that 3G is so much faster that in the end it'd be more efficient

i dunno, just an idea. either way the battery life sucked on my iphone there at the end and you'll be able to turn the 3G off probably so i dont see it being any worse

Because that wouldn't be very intuitive. It's assuming you want to keep the windows you already have if you're opening a new one.

Anyone else upgraded to the latest version (1.01 I think) of Intelliscreen? I did it last night and

a) Intelliscreen stopped working altogether. It started talking about registration codes and 10 day trials and whatnot, but I couldn't get it to even load.

and

b) Youtube stopped working. It would act like it was going to load up and then it would boot me back out to the main screen.

Uninstalling the program fixed the youtube problem. But damn. I really liked intelliscreen.

just thought of this as well. a have a friend who uses http://www.simplifymedia.com/ on his jailbroken iphone, so he essentially has 10000000000 mp3s available to stream at all times from his iphone.

^same here. although not on an iphone. It streams all my HD movies to my phone very nicely. Just wish my time warner upload was faster.

sweet! so according to some dude at CNN Money, by increasing their flash memory (which apparently is top secret information only gained by reading the patent application), Apple is making way for Adobe Flash on the iPhone! Brilliant!

i know what wi-max is, but i wasn't aware that it was a wanted feature for the iPhone, or for any hand-held device at this point.

The general public doesn't really know anything about it thus it's not a feature that's really asked for since it's a future technology. 3G is a current technology that's simply expected to be in a device as high-end as the iPhone

what do you want people to base that answer on other than a wild guess?

the #s released in the 1 slide today are hardly an indicator of real usage - especially without specifying how much talk time or data usage

for starters i didn't know there was a difference between 2g talk and 3g talk...i thought 3g was only for faster data

it says talk time is a max of 8 hours...but 3g talk is only 5 hours on the new one

browsing went from 6 hours on the old version to 5-6 on the new one, so that seems ok.

standby has gained up to 50 more hours

oh and if they didn't improve the signal/call quality on the new iphone i'm not gonna be very happy.

I suspect the plastic casing on the back will improve call quality.

So when does this thing come out? Because my iphone went down the garbage disposal and hasn't been 100% right ever since and I've just been putting off getting a replacement because I'm waiting on the new one, how much longer do I have to put up with this?

I put it in the side pocket of a flexible fabric cooler that I took the beach, came back from the beach and sat the cooler in the kitchen then went outside to hose some sand off some things. My mom sees the cooler and decides the cooler needs to be cleaned out, turns on the water and garbage disposal, and then turns the cooler upside down over the sink.......iphone came out of the side pocket and went into the garbage disposal. It still works it's just constantly telling me "this accessory is not made to work with the iphone" like it thinks it's plugged into something. Also sometimes it puts itself on vibrate because the disposal chewed up the metal around the vibrate switch a little bit and its bent just enough that it forces the switch into the vibrate mode sometimes.

well the release date might be July 11th, but i'm not so sure the un-rabid types will be able to buy them that soon. i'm thinking that the new features+ low price will = crazy demand and there might be a wait until you can get one in your hands.

Hopefully they make it so you can only purchase one, and make it credit card only purchases to help keep them in stock.

Easy. Amazon just offered all AT&T pda/smartphones for 0$ to -50$ (except the iphone). You could get a tilt for 0$ with a new contract. Apple will always be the most expensive. They're just getting on par with the other companies by offering the iphone for 200$. It's still not exactly "cheap" with a new contract.

No. Think of it as like a switching from dialup internet to cable internet. It's just a much faster wireless connection for data.

It's still not a CDMA phone , so you can't use it on Verizon.

So does anyone fully understand the 2g/3g talk time difference? Is the quality of 3g talk so much better that it warrants the use of it over 2g? I mean if the talk quality is the same why not use 2g for 10 hours rather than 3g for 5 hours?
