^^oh i totally agree. And since i've posted the stuff his parents said, some people have come on there and opened up about how they take everything people say about their son as us "hating" on him.

^hope it doesn't end up as bad as playing USC there did for them a few years back.

Great Article on Russell Wilson by sportswriter Joe Barton, entitled "Russell Wilson:Next Face of the ACC"

"Many college football fans are unfamiliar with NC State Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson. In '08, was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Year; he was also the first freshman to be named First Team All-ACC quarterback.

Wilson's tenure got off to a slow start. In the opener versus South Carolina, Wilson took the field as the starter, but quickly left the game with a concussion. Wilson returned during the Wolfpack's third game against Clemson. He initially struggled to get acclimated to the starting role.

As the season progressed, Wilson got more comfortable. He led the Pack to a 6-6 record—5-4 in games started and completed—including an incredible four-game winning streak to finish the season.

This gave the Pack their first bowl bid in three years. Against Rutgers, Wilson helped the Pack get out to a quick 17-6 lead versus Rutgers, but exited the game early with a knee injury. NC State went on to lose the game 29-23.

Through the course of the '08 season, Wilson showed an ability to lead a loose-knit team to a .500 record despite a difficult schedule.

NC State will once again open this season with South Carolina. This time the game will be in Raleigh, and Wilson has year of experience under his belt.

Make no mistake, Wilson could be college football's next great athletic quarterback. What Wilson lacks in stature (5-foot-11, 190 lbs.) he makes up for in speed and agility. At the same time, his intellectual prowess matches his superior athletic ability.

The only statistical category that was questionable was his completion percentage, which was 54.5 percent in '08. This low percentage is attributed to his unwillingness to force passes into coverage. In situations of danger, Wilson ran out of the pocket and, if necessary, throw the ball away.

A benefit from this strategy was Wilson's low interception total—a mere one interception—in '08. He currently holds the active streak for most passes without an interception. The decision making skills that he demonstrated were those of a veteran quarterback. Wilson will benefit from NC State's experience: all of his starting wide receivers and two of three tight ends return. NC State lost Andre Brown to the New York Giants, but will have talented backs in Jamelle Eugene, Toney Baker, Curtis Underwood, and newcomer Brandon Barnes.

The big question is still the offensive line, which gained experience in '08 but still lacks great athletic ability and depth. Wilson's running skills do allow for the linemen to be less than perfect.

It seems like Wilson's only flaw is his ability to remain healthy; a product of his eagerness to leave the pocket. Teams target Wilson by trying to lay big hits on the small quarterback. It's something that, even in the best circumstances, can't be avoided.

Nevertheless, Wilson is en route to a stellar '09 campaign and could potentially lead NC State to their first ACC title in 30 years.

Wilson, also a star shortstop on NC State's baseball team, and was initially drafted out of high school, but elected to go to college. Watching Wilson play both sports is like watching a work of art.

Wilson truly showed his greatness in two football games last season against North Carolina and Miami (Fla). He played brilliantly against UNC in Chapel Hill, a team that every Pack fan relishes to the fullest extent. Given the possibility of a bowl bid, Wilson had enormous pressure to perform against Miami (Fla).Wilson foiled the tough Hurricane defense on a 29-yard touchdown run that truly showed his ability to turn a broken play into a positive one. Wilson gives all Pack fans a hope that they haven't felt since the days of Philip Rivers. We are watching the beginning of a headlining college football star. "

....hopefully this holds you guys over until Sept. 3rd's kickoff! GO PACK!

^^ Big props to the writer for doing his research. I can't believe how many people cite his completion percentage without pointing out how many times he threw the ball away.

NEW RULES THIS YEAR

Quote :
"A tweak to the replay system was among the rules changes Rhoads detailed Sunday:

l Two plays that were not subject to instant-replay review are now reviewable.

Coaches may now challenge the call if a referee: rules an incomplete pass because he judges a quarterback's arm to be moving forward; or rules a pass into the flat was a forward pass rather than a lateral.

Both changes could help a defense recover a fumble.

l The tackle box has been defined to being 5 yards on either side of the center. The width of the tackle box used to be left to the referees' discretion, which made determining if a quarterback threw the ball away or intentionally grounded it a judgment call.

The rule also affects horse-collar tackling (allowed inside the tackle box) and punters who are forced to run (they lose protection afforded to punters outside the tackle box).

l Both teams can wear their dark jerseys in the same game, providing there is enough contrast in the colors to avoid confusion. (Sorry Virginia and Clemson, you both can't wear orange).

"The old color jersey rule was basically for black-and-white television," Rhoads said. "Which is why the visitors had to wear white. Does anybody still own a black-and-white TV?"

The rule is in direct response to last year's game between UCLA and Southern Cal, when the Bruins wore light blue and the Trojans wore maroon. UCLA was penalized 15 yards at the beginning of each half because the Bruins were not properly dressed.

l The NCAA will change its rulebook every other year. This season will be the first of a two-year cycle.
"

I like them all.

Not sure why, but I like the idea of the road team wearing white.

I wonder how often both teams will wear their dark jerseys, and what sort of contrast will be required. For instance, if South carolina wears maroon, and UGA wants to wear their black and silver.

I'm sure it will be pretty strict

I'd put orange/yellow/red/maroon in one subset and blue/purple/green black in another

Only two teams from opposing subsets could both wear their dark jersey

With obvious exceptions like no maroon vs purple...and maroon vs yellow could probably work

I think this should be allowed for rivarly games only, but then I guess you would get into a who are their rivals debate.

maybe put a limit on games per year

Like in the NFL you can only wear your alternate jersey twice

So maybe only let the road team wear their dark jersey 2 or three times

We would have to wear white on the road for most ACC games anyway

Look at our division

BC, Clemson, FSU, and Maryland are too similar to us

Wake, UNC and whatever Coastal games we got (besides VT) would be the only ones where we could even potentially wear red

Hey remember we wore white jerseys with red pants against UNC and Duke and won. We wore white jerseys and white pants during the USC, CU, and Rutgers games, and we lost all of them.

Meet The Pack Day is on August 29th at 2 pm at Carter-Finley Stadium.

^clemson wearing orange would probably work

I think the orange and red are different enough.

Can we call this the UNC/UCLA rule since it favors them? Not many colors that light blue doesnt stand out from!

if you're a college football player good enough to get playing time in the ACC, I think you'd be able to distinguish colors pretty well

my dad is color blind, but since he's lived with it so long, he knows what colors things are supposed to be

and I cant believe I just argued that point

Donald Bowens is out until at least mid October with his knee injury, granted WR is a position which we have quality depth at, but it sucks for him to have to miss part of another season and it seems like our injury curse is in full effect still.

OK little writeup, mostly about what happened last year (not surprising I guess, as that's most of what there is to write about).

Also, a kind mention of TWW at the bottom.

"We have a much more experienced football team coming into this year. A lot of guys have played a lot of football for us the last two years."

"We bit the bullet and redshirted a lot of those freshmen last year and they are in backup positions right now where they are going to get involved and help us out and probably get to play some football."

"I've said before, we're going to be a much more competitive football team and we're making strides in the right direction."

"We weren't favorites in a game last year. We were underdogs in 12 in a row."

"They've always played great defense. If you play great defense you always have a chance to win."

"We didn't know what we had last year when we started the season and he gave us glimpses as the season went on. He became a much better quarterback about the Boston College game, and as we became a better football team."

"He did a great job from the end of the season until the bowl game, where he could go back and study his performances and understand what he could do better to be a better football player."

"Him getting hurt was a tough thing for us at that point, but I think that was very encouraging to us that he took that time and used it wisely to become a better football player."

"We're going to be very competitive this year and that's what we want to be."

"We're going to put Michael in the game. He's going to play, depending upon what his performance is and how it affects Russell's play. There's a certain point where you don't want to keep him in there too long, but you've got to give him enough... as we've seen, Russell's gone down in the first half of two games last year, wasn't able to play the second half and you've got to have someone in position we could feel good about and the team could feel good about."

"I think he has really good physical abilities throwing the football. He's very competitive... he's as competitive as Russell is. I think he just needs some opportunity to play."

"If you looked at our spring game, those that were there, he had a two-minute situation at the end of the first half. We took a timeout, there were eight seconds left. We told him you've got to throw the ball in the endzone, you can't take a sack because we want to kick a field goal. Well, he took a sack. He comes back the second half, has a two-minute drill, and goes down and puts them in a position to win the game with a field goal."

"He learned from that experience, came back that same day and executed what we wanted him to. I think that gives you a glimpse of what he's capable of doing and capable of handling."

"Sean Glennon? He reminds me more of Matt Ryan than he does Sean Glennon... because I've had experience with Matt Ryan." "

check out Butch Davis' wikipedia page

Quote :
" The Tar Heels have sold out every game in Davis' short tenure, and the actual turnstile counts have been the highest in a decade due to Ram's Club boosters arriving before and after the loss, operating said turnstiles. For example, the matchup against South Carolina saw a standing-room-only crowd of 61,000--the second-largest in school history, largely in part to UNC fans pawning away their tickets to Gamecocks. This continued into 2008; a crowd of 60,500--third-largest in school history--watched the Tar Heels edge past a pathetic Notre Dame team."

Bowden was asked if there's a player in the ACC who has that kind of ability.

“That quarterback at dadgum N.C. State (Russell Wilson) is a one-man team,” Bowden said.
