The problem was religious discrimination. This is a tax-payer funded venue and they were saying ONLY Muslims could attend on that day. Since it is paid for by the community, ALL of the community should be welcome at that event or at least have access to the venue.

There are many local elections decided by just dozens of votes. But I think setting the precedent of stripping Id for unrelated things is what they’re doing.

I can’t get an nc real id easily because I have 2 middle names that I’ve used inconsistently over the years, my passport is my only one. I’m sure there are many people with similar situations where some bureaucratic quirk limits their id options. It’s always been the directly stated goals of Republican voter id laws— put enough legal pretexts into place so they can later challenge any vote they want.
